Drama — Drama 1972 (Netherlands, hard blues rock ,folk )
In 1970, Dutch musicians Polle Eduard ("Tee Set," "After Tea"), Ton "Shell" Schellekens ("In Crowd," "Big Wheel"), and German keyboardist Ulli Grün ("Boots," "After Tea") formed the band Drama. The guys were already accomplished musicians, but the band truly blossomed with the arrival of a young talent—virtuoso guitarist Frank Van Der Kloot ("Bobby's Children"). Their very first performances attracted the attention of record labels. Hans Van Oosterhout, the producer of "Supersister," provided significant support. Released in 1972, the single "Mary's Mamma," written in a style uncharacteristic of the band, became a megahit in the Netherlands. Their debut album, "Drama," was also well received, but shortly after its release, Ulli left the band, moving to Germany. Until mid-1973, the guys performed as a three-piece, and then Frank and Ton formed a new band, "Fontessa," while Polle pursued a solo career.Twenty five years ago it was Harrie Knipschild, Hollands best known blues expert, who started penning his praise for the band Drama in the Veronica Television Magazine. Drama started after splitting of the band After Tea (Trio: Ulli, Shell and myself). We needed a new challenge, and with the addition of guitarist Frank Van Der Kloot we grew into a band with, what's the word, balls. Record companies quickly became interested and we were even given studiotime without even having written anything.
