Micah — I'm Only One Man 1971 (USA, Progressive Rock)
Micah formed in Terre Haute, Indiana, in the summer of 1971. They then moved to New York State, where they performed primarily in the upstate area and lived in Albany. The band quickly attracted fans with their powerful organ-guitar progressive rock. The talented musicians gained recognition and were offered a contract with Sterling Award Records in New York. The album "I'm Only One Man" was recorded in late 1971. The music on Side A was recorded live in a quadraphonic studio in New York City in a single day, without rehearsals or breaks. The musicians were so good that the studio engineers didn't bother with any takes. A fantastic organist, rich touches of jazz and non-jazz guitar, powerful melodies in minor keys, a competent vocalist who doesn't hog the limelight, instead letting the other musicians unfold their instrumental parts—all this will not leave a true prog lover indifferent. The album also has a delicious Latin flavor, which only adds to its charm and appeal. The music and performance are strongly reminiscent of Atomic Rooster—the same frenetic Hammond, a very similar compositional structure, and even a similar vocal style. Unfortunately, this New York band left us with only one album and, as often happens with good American bands not inclined toward commercialism, disbanded in 1974.
