00:00The Trump administration is expanding its travel bans and restrictions to 20 new countries,
00:07doubling the number of nations affected by sweeping travel limits to 39.
00:12Five more countries were added to the list facing a full ban, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger,
00:19South Sudan and Syria. People traveling on documents issued by the Palestinian Authority
00:25are also included in the ban. An additional 15 countries are facing increased restrictions.
00:32The restrictions apply to both people seeking to travel to the U.S. as visitors or to emigrate there.
00:38People who already have visas are lawful permanent residents of the U.S. or have certain visa
00:43categories such as diplomats or athletes, or whose entry into the country is believed to serve
00:48the U.S. interest are all exempt from the restrictions. The Trump administration cited
00:54immigration enforcement, foreign policy and national security concerns for the move.
01:00But critics have argued that the administration is using national security concerns to collectively
01:04keep out people from a wide range of countries.
01:10The European Commission on Tuesday announced a reversal of a wholesale ban on new combustion
01:16engine vehicles from 2035 after pressure from ailing car makers.
01:21Under the revised plans, car makers will have to comply with the 90% tailpipe emissions reduction
01:28target compared to 2021, instead of a 100% reduction.
01:33First, we're staying the course towards zero emissions mobility, but we're introducing some
01:41flexibilities for manufacturers so they can meet their CO2 targets in the most cost-efficient way.
01:48The remaining 10 emissions will need to be compensated through European low-carbon steel,
01:53e-fuels or biofuels, the Commission said.
01:57Fuel electric vehicles and hydrogen vehicles will also be encouraged, with car manufacturers
02:02eligible to receive super-credits for producing small, affordable electric cars made in the EU27.
02:09Europe's ailing car industry has been struggling with increasing Chinese competition and the
02:15transition to electric vehicles, resulting in financial losses and major job cuts.
02:20European lawmakers and EU governments are set to negotiate starting Wednesday on how far to go
02:32in protecting farmers under the Mercosur Trade Agreement.
02:36On Tuesday, MEPs backed a safeguard clause for the deal, a measure designed to strengthen
02:42monitoring of the EU marketing case of a surge in imports from Latin America.
02:46The support for safeguards does not amount to approval of the agreement as a whole.
02:52The 27 member states are expected to vote on the full deal this week.
02:57A main point of contention is a reciprocity clause, meaning Mercosur products need to meet
03:02the same production standards as within the EU.
03:05The European Parliament approved the clause, however, its approval cuts across guarantees
03:09already endorsed by member states.
03:11The Mercosur Agreement has opened deep divisions in Europe.
03:16EU farmers argued that the deal could expose them to unfair competition from Latin American
03:21imports.
03:22Supporters of the deal, on the other hand, say it would unlock new markets vital for the EU economy.
03:28European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is expected to fly to Brazil to sign the
03:33agreement with Mercosur countries, but the deal can still be blocked by EU member states.
03:41The European Consumer Organization is raising the alarm about hidden advertising practices
03:48of influencers on social media for fast fashion and unhealthy food.
03:52You might have spotted some of these practices on Instagram or TikTok.
03:56In the fast fashion sector, content creators unpack and try on large quantities of clothing
04:01to showcase how much can be purchased with little money.
04:05This marketing practice is known as hauls.
04:07Influencer marketing also promotes unhealthy food advertising.
04:13In Portugal, McDonald's collaborated with a popular streamer exploring a Minecraft world.
04:18The European Consumer Organization raises issues of a lack of transparency, undisclosed
04:23commercial partnerships and incentives to other consumers.
04:26In some cases, we believe that there is a breach of EU law, particularly when it comes to promoting
04:33something for what you are being paid off and you are not telling that to the consumer.
04:38So that is covered by consumer protection laws.
04:41But something that in EU law we do not have covered is this relationship between influencers
04:47and the brands, influencers and the platforms.
04:50Hence, the European Consumer Organization recommends to establish joint liability between influencers,
04:57their agencies and brands if consumer law is breached.
05:00The European Commission is expected to present the draft Digital Fairness Act next year to tackle
05:05unfair online practices and misleading influencer marketing.
05:09China is to impose up to 19.8% tariffs on pork imports from the European Union, slashing its preliminary figures
05:23of between 15% and 62%, the country's commerce ministry has announced.
05:29The move follows a lengthy Chinese investigation into imports of pork from the EU, launched in June
05:36last year, which concluded that EU products were harming the domestic industry.
05:43Spain, the Netherlands and Denmark are said to be the most affected.
05:48The probe was prompted by the EU's decision to impose provisional tariffs on China-made electric
05:54vehicles last year.
05:56The EU runs a massive trade deficit with China, which came to over 300 billion in 2024.
06:03However, the trading bloc is a major exporter of pork and a key supplier of by-products such
06:09as ears, snouts, feet and other items considered to be delicacies in China.
06:18A driver who injured more than 130 people by plowing his car into a crowd of football fans celebrating
06:26Liverpool's league title in May has been jailed for 21 and a half years.
06:3254-year-old Paul Doyle rammed his minivan through a mass of fans in Liverpool on the 26th of May
06:39and was stopped only after a bystander got in the vehicle and brought it to a halt.
06:44It is difficult, if not impossible, to convey in words alone the scene of devastation you caused.
06:51It shows you quite deliberately accelerating into groups of fans time and time again.
06:58The judge dismissed Doyle's claim of having panicked as, quote,
07:02"...demonstratably untrue," and prosecutors spent hours reading out the statements of victims,
07:09some still nursing injuries.
07:11Doyle pleaded guilty last month to 31 accounts, including dangerous driving and multiple accounts
07:17of attempting or causing grievous bodily harm and intentional wounding.
07:22What is the top concern across Europe?
07:33Crime, inflation and political instability have driven France's level of confidence to the bottom.
07:39A striking 92% of French people believe their countries heading off on the wrong track.
07:45A record for France, according to a periodical Ipsos poll on 30 countries, including 11 in Europe.
07:52The French are not alone.
07:54Widespread pessimism is also apparent in the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany, Italy,
08:00the United Kingdom and Sweden, meaning the vast majority believe their country is on the wrong path.
08:06Globally, the most common source of anxiety is crime and violence.
08:11In Europe, safety is the dominant concern in France, Germany, Belgium and especially Sweden,
08:18but the wider European picture is much more varied. For example, compared to the rest of the continent,
08:24Hungarians seem disproportionately concerned about the state of their healthcare,
08:29while migration control is the main issue for respondents in the United Kingdom.
08:35Meanwhile, the risk of military conflicts has been gaining urgency,
08:39becoming the most pressing issue in Poland, surpassing even Israel. Climate change is tied with
08:45conflicts in 9th place, but lost 4 points from last year, and no surveyed countries indicated it
08:52as the top issue to address.
08:56A Paris Labour court has ruled that the football club Paris Saint-Germain must pay more than 60
09:02million euro to Kylian Mbappé, in a dispute over unpaid wages and bonuses linked to the end of his
09:08contract before his 2024 move to Real Madrid. On Tuesday, the court sided with Mbappé amid
09:16accusations of betrayal and harassment surrounding the breakdown of his relationship with PSG.
09:22Mbappé's lawyer claimed the club owed him more than 260 million and PSG was seeking 440 million
09:30euros from the French star, citing damages and quote, a loss of opportunity after he left on a free transfer.
09:39The court's ruling can be appealed and is unlikely to end the dispute.
09:50If you had to choose a timepiece, which you would always put on again and again and again,
10:07that timeless watch, what would it be for you?
10:10Oh, I can't answer. That's very difficult.
10:12Well, I'd absolutely take the IWC Portuguese Eternal calendar that won last year because that actually
10:17keeps going on forever. So that's the one, if you have one watch forever, that's the one you're going to go for.
10:22Do you have a favorite?
10:23Of course.
10:25And how are you going to tell us?
10:26Surely not.
10:29My favorite remains probably the first Finissimo we crafted, the tourbillon manual winding.
10:35That's why back in 2014, so 11 years ago, and this is a very simple watch.
10:43You hardly understand that it's a very, very complex watch, so it's pretty low-key.
10:52At the same time, it's rewarding because you know you have really a treasure on the wrist.
10:56Maybe the 1518 from Patek Philippe, the one that sold for 17 million.
11:00The best watch for me that I have today is the Gerald Charles Remastered Jumping Hour.
11:06I would put on the perpetual calendar as a complication. I found it a very romantic
11:12complication that continues setting the time for years, decades, and potentially centuries ahead.
11:20I believe it would be the happiest watch.
11:25Yeah, when I have signed over like almost 30 years ago.
11:29That would be the Piaget Andy Warhol with the Tiger High dial.
11:33To me, it's the watch that really stands out, yet tells an amazing story,
11:39not only in American art history, if you like, but also in Swiss watchmaking from one of the very finest Piaget.
