Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia continues to preserve the Arctic Council while actively promoting responsible cooperation in the Arctic with non-regional partners, particularly China and India.
Lavrov emphasized that Moscow remains committed to maintaining dialogue and institutional frameworks in the Arctic, even as geopolitical tensions reshape international cooperation. He noted that engagement with non-Arctic states focuses on responsible development, scientific collaboration, logistics, and economic projects in the High North.
The Arctic Council, long viewed as a key forum for cooperation among Arctic nations, has faced challenges amid strained relations between Russia and Western countries. Moscow has repeatedly stressed the importance of keeping Arctic governance mechanisms functional and insulated from political confrontation.
