Ken Ehrlich revealed in a new interview that all three rappers turned down offers, explaining that "we continue to have a problem in the hip-hop world."
Transcript
00:00Ariana Grande isn't the only star saying thank you next to the Grammys.
00:10Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino also won't be taking the stage at the show on Sunday,
00:15as the three hip-hop stars all declined invitations to perform.
00:19As for the Seven Rings, singer Ari took to Twitter to clarify why she cancelled her Grammys performance
00:24after show producer Ken Ehrlich told the Associated Press she felt it was too late for her to pull something together.
00:29Ariana tweeted,
00:44This news comes just as Aria has released her second album in less than six months, thank you next.
00:49She also dropped a video for the album's final track, Break Up With Your Girlfriend? I'm Bored.
00:59Meanwhile, Ehrlich told the New York Times that Drake, Kendrick Lamar and Childish Gambino each declined invitations to perform at this year's ceremony.
01:13Ehrlich then commented on criticism that the Grammys alienates rappers and hip-hop artists by nominating them in major categories,
01:20but rarely ever giving them the award. He said,
01:23The fact of the matter is, we continue to have a problem in the hip-hop world.
01:27When they don't take home the big prize, the regard of the academy and what the Grammys represent continues to be less meaningful to the hip-hop community, which is sad.
01:35Drake, Kendrick, Childish Gambino and Ariana are all nominated for Grammys this year.
01:46The 2019 Grammys hosted by Alicia Keys are set to air live Sunday at 8 p.m. Eastern, 5 p.m. Pacific on CBS.
01:53Alright, so will you be tuning into the Grammys? Be sure to tweet me and let me know.
01:56Until next time, for The Hollywood Reporter News, I'm Tiffany Taylor.
