Interview with Andy Cohen
Transcript
00:00Lizzie recently announced her departure from Housewives Reboot.
00:05There's speculation that there's more to the story.
00:07Is there anything that you can reveal on that?
00:10No, I mean, I thought that her statement represented her feelings, and it's an unfortunate situation.
00:23And I posted about anti-Semitism on Twitter about a month ago, and I was stunned by the responses.
00:29And I always knew that social media could really be a cesspool, but it's really brutal.
00:35And this is not, you know, this is a rough time we're living in.
00:40And this is a serious thing.
00:44And so I wish her well.
00:48And there you go.
00:50Yeah, I did the same thing, and I'm Jewish as well, and really disturbed.
00:56Yeah, it's incredible.
00:58I mean, I knew that Twitter was a cesspool, but sometimes you're, you know, really reminded.
01:04Yes.
01:04Yes.
01:04Yes, you are.
01:06Now, Bethany Frankel, how likely are we to see her on the Legacy show?
01:12Any now?
01:13I think you're pretty unlikely.
01:15Okay.
01:15Yeah.
01:16All right.
01:16Yes.
01:17All right.
01:17And now, you spoke out about Ramona today or last night, I think.
01:24Will we definitely not be seeing her on the Legacy spin-off?
01:27Doesn't seem like it.
01:28She's in, I have to say, she's in, she's in the happiest place I think she's been in since I've known her.
01:36Which is, you know, 13, 14 years.
01:40She's, if you follow her on social media, she's living her best life.
01:44And she's having a lot of fun.
01:45And she looks great.
01:47And so, I'm going to be interested to see what happens with her.
01:52Because I think she's going to, I think she's going to find a man and she's got a whole nother chapter.
01:58I like that.
01:59Ahead.
01:59Yeah.
01:59I like that for her.
02:01Now, you have been in the business, like you said, for a bit.
02:04Is there anybody that you, like, think of as, like, the one that got away a little that you, like, wish could come back for a Bravo series?
02:12Or even, like, I mean, Southern Charm, Summer House, like anything.
02:16Someone that's left the show.
02:18Yeah.
02:19That you're like, oh.
02:19That I would want back.
02:22God, I mean, I think everyone, the thing about it is everyone kind of leaves for a reason.
02:30And so, sometimes it's hard to come back.
02:34I always, you know, I mean, Phaedra is someone that always amused me and still does amuse me.
02:41And so, I'm happy that we're working with her on Ultimate Girls Trip.
02:46She was just on Ultimate Girls Trip.
02:47And, you know, everyone else.
02:51I mean, look, what I love about The Housewives is that people can come in and out.
02:56A hundred percent.
02:56And it's what I love about, it's what I loved about daytime soap operas.
03:01You build this family and then it was always exciting when Nina came back to All My Children.
03:07And it feels like an old friend coming back.
03:10Yeah.
03:10And so, that's how I think, you know, that's the great thing about The Housewives.
03:13When people come back, you're happy to see them and they are part of the family.
03:18So, you know, I always am hoping that the door with The Housewives is revolving.
03:23Mm-hmm.
03:24Distance does make the heart grow fonder.
03:25And it does.
03:26Mm-hmm.
03:27It does.
03:27Yeah.
03:28Do you think that, speaking of returning, Brandi, Glanville, and Denise Richards will return to Beverly Hills?
03:34I don't know.
03:37I don't know.
03:38I feel like, I don't know.
03:42Hmm.
03:43Yeah.
03:44Okay.
03:44Um, and do you think, uh, or do you know, are there any other plans for any other franchises to get the reboot or kind of like a legacy spin-off?
03:53I think we're good right now.
03:55Yeah.
03:55I think we're really good right now.
03:57Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:57There's, we have nine franchises.
04:00Plus Ultimate Girls.
04:02Lots of content.
04:03Yes.
04:03Yes.
04:03I know.
04:04I was thinking about, um, we were talking in the elevator about it a little bit, uh, about Summer House Girls and how, you know, a lot of them are married.
04:12They're getting married and so it's like, what's that next step going to be for them?
04:17And whether it's, you know, seeing Hub House on New York or something like that.
04:22Right, right.
04:22Do you like to see kind of the connections between shows?
04:24I think if there's an organic, real connection.
04:27Mm-hmm.
04:28Um, so if she were really, if she were, let me put it this way, it would help if she was old friends with one of the new roni women.
04:38Sure.
04:38You know, that's some, then you would be like, oh, this makes perfect sense.
04:42Um, so that always helped.
04:45I mean, you know, when Lisa Rinna joined Beverly Hills, she had known those women, some of them, for 10, 15 years.
04:52When Dorinda joined the New York Housewives, she had known those women for so long.
04:57That's what always makes a successful housewife.
05:00Mm-hmm.
05:00Um, when Shannon Bedore entered OC, she hadn't known those women, but it was just a perfect fit.
05:05It fit.
05:05Yeah.
05:06Exactly, exactly.
05:07What are your plans for this holiday season?
05:10It's your daughter's first holidays.
05:12Yeah.
05:12You have your son, Ben.
05:14Tell me just a little bit about what you guys have planned.
05:16We are going to have Thanksgiving at my house in New York.
05:21I'm taking Ben to the, um, uh, parade, which I'm really excited about.
05:27I've never been to the Thanksgiving Day parade.
05:29Ben's obviously never been.
05:30I've celebrated Thanksgiving in St. Louis for the last, for my whole life.
05:35And so this will be my first time in New York.
05:37My whole family's coming here.
05:39So I'm really excited.
05:39And then for Hanukkah and Christmas, I'll be here just, um, chilling, lighting fires, lighting the Hanukkah candles, opening presents, and getting ready, uh, to blow it all out on New Year's Eve with Anderson.
05:54Oh my gosh.
05:55We can't wait for that.
05:57Yes.
05:57And many Fresca mixers.
05:59Yes.
05:59To be drunk throughout those several weeks.
06:02Absolutely.
06:03Six weeks of, of drinking.
06:04Yes.
06:04Which is what we enjoy at this holiday.
06:06Yes.
06:07I love it.
06:07Responsibly.
06:08We're very responsibly, responsibly.
06:10Um, and tell me a little bit about fatherhood or father to two, as we said, what, what has fatherhood taught you about yourself that you would say you didn't know before?
06:20I think just that I could do it and that I can wake up at seven in the morning and deal with poo and, uh, a, a, a, a child that doesn't want to wear what I've picked out for them to wear to school or, um,
06:37Um, you know, and then those are, those are the low points of the mornings and then the high points of, um, you know, watching Madonna live concert videos with him in the morning, which is our ritual weirdly, uh, or just eating breakfast together and chatting.
06:53He's just, I love it.
06:55He runs in my room every morning and I love it when he does.
07:00It's just, uh, you know, I'm, I wasn't, I didn't used to be a 7am guy, but now I'm a 7am guy and it's fine cause it's him and he's cute and he gives me a hug.
07:11And so it's really nice.
07:14It's very cozy and it's grounded me and it's a wonderful thing.
07:18Yeah.
07:19Yeah.
07:19Well, so you're a 7am guy and you're like a 10pm, 11pm guy.
07:25How do you balance it all?
07:27I just don't sleep very much.
07:30Fresca Mixed.
07:31Yeah.
07:33Yeah.
07:33Tell me a little bit about your partnership with Fresca Mixed and why it really aligned with your brand, especially leading into the holidays.
07:42Well, my brand, uh, part of my brand has always been Fresca and tequila as a cocktail.
07:48It's been my cocktail of choice since I started Watch What Happens Live in 2013.
07:53So now Fresca has paired the two in a ready to make, ready to drink cocktail.
08:00Uh, and I'm thrilled.
08:02I'm so excited to be continuing to hype this perfect combination, uh, of ingredients, uh, Fresca and tequila and Fresca pairs so well with alcohol that I'm happy to say that they've gotten me into, uh, the Fresca spritz, vodka and Fresca combination too, which is really great.
08:26So, um, listen, this is a, I love an organic combination and Fresca and tequila is an organic combination and Fresca Mixed and Andy is an organic combination because this has been my jam for years.
08:42Yeah.
08:43You pretty much invented it.
08:44I think so.
08:45I mean, in my world, it was called the Fresquila.
08:48Now it's called Fresca Mixed.
08:49I like it.
08:50It doesn't matter what it's called.
08:52It tastes great.
08:53It's good.
08:53Yes.
08:53It's good.
08:54So no need for a bartender pretty much anymore on Watch What Happens.
08:57Honestly.
08:58You just got the cans.
08:58There you go.
08:59Easy.
09:00Yeah.
09:00Easy sipping.
09:01Um, and then looking ahead, you brought up New Year's, hosting New Year's with Anderson.
09:06What are you guys planning?
09:08What do you have up your sleeves?
09:09Well, we're planning to have fun.
09:10I mean, that's the biggest thing.
09:12I think people like to let their hair down on New Year's Eve and they like to see us letting our hair down and having fun.
09:19And so, uh, that's the plan.
09:22That's, that's the only direction I've ever been given by CNN every year is to have fun.
09:29So, that's easy for me to do.
09:31Sounds like a dream job.
09:32I'm the Fresca Mixed guy.
09:34Yes.
09:34So, I like to have fun.
09:36I think that that sounds like it calls for a night of Fresca Mixers.
09:41I do too.
09:42Tequila and Fresca.
09:43I do too.
09:43Amazing.
09:44Well, Andy, thank you so much for taking the time to talk with me today.
09:47So nice to meet you.
