00:00Welcome! What a great day to be Irish.
00:07There are moments in this job that can be exceptionally challenging,
00:13but they are more than offset by special moments,
00:16moments of extraordinary privilege,
00:19the sort of moments that define this university.
00:22What most significantly brought us to this day
00:25was that we had available to us
00:28the best possible candidate in America
00:31to lead this program and protect this culture
00:34and serve this university.
00:36Ladies and gentlemen, the 30th head coach
00:38of the University of Notre Dame, Marcus Freeman.
00:40I plan on leading this team with an unwavering standard.
00:44We will call it the Golden Standard.
00:50The Golden Standard is something that we live by day in and day out.
00:54TGS on two. One, two.
00:55TGS! TGS! TGS!
00:57TGS is the golden standard. TGS!
01:00TGS!
01:01So what is the golden standard?
01:04Number one is challenge everything.
01:06Challenge everything, man. Find a better way.
01:08Never just go status quo.
01:12We're not trying to stay complacent or stay in the same place.
01:15We're trying to get 1% better every single day.
01:18Number two is unit strength. Unit strength means love.
01:22You choose to love, so you're choosing to love your teammates.
01:25My teammates choose hard. We choose to love each other, gain each other's trust.
01:29And number three is the competitive spirit.
01:31It's creating a winner's mindset.
01:34I believe that leaders are born, but winners are created.
01:39You're created. And you're created through intentional actions.
01:44We live or die by those. Those are our standards.
01:47We set the standard, and we don't falter, and we don't fall to nobody about the standard.
01:50And you can either raise yourself to it or fall below it.
01:53This standard will be unwavering.
01:56And this is the standard that will drive this football program to its 12th national championship.
02:01First game under your belt, man.
02:15Yeah.
02:16How do you feel?
02:18Well, I liked it then, a little different, but it was good.
02:22Yeah.
02:23Learning opportunities all over.
02:26There's nothing like getting the first one under your belt.
02:29You don't know what you don't know.
02:31You know what I mean?
02:32Like, nothing could prepare you for that moment other than playing it.
02:37I met with CJ and told him I was proud of him.
02:40First game, hostile environment.
02:43You know, he played well versus a really good defense.
02:46Like, overall, he performed really well.
02:49I was like, did he just throw a note like this now?
02:51That's why you're CJ Carter.
02:53That's why you're starting quarterback.
02:55We are at a better elevation height.
02:58Like, where we're at right now versus last year, game one, I promised for a better team.
03:03You know, but the outcome wasn't what we wanted.
03:06And so, we got to continue to get better, right?
03:10Because it ain't like we got an easy one coming out.
03:13CJ wants to be perfect like we all do.
03:16But at the end of the day, CJ played really well.
03:18And that's going to be the foundation for what his future is here at Notre Dame.
03:26You handled the environment, the play clock.
03:28You know what I mean?
03:29You were aware.
03:30You're just going to become more and more comfortable.
03:33I could tell you from the first play to the last play, like,
03:37I feel like we could see ourselves be more comfortable as the game went on.
03:41Yeah.
03:42It felt like they couldn't stop us in the second half.
03:44We stopped ourselves in the first half.
03:46That's why this week is going to be important.
03:49Keep going.
03:50Keep leading.
03:51Yes, sir.
03:52Everybody's following you now.
03:53Okay?
03:54All right.
03:55Appreciate it.
03:56Yep, appreciate it.
04:03CJ, I think, is a very, very competitive person at heart.
04:07Emotional.
04:08You know, he wants to do well as much as anybody that I've ever been around.
04:14It's important to him that he's the best at what he does.
04:17It was quite an environment for CJ to start his career.
04:23In this era of college athletics and football and the way the playoff is structured,
04:28it's good to have that early.
04:30If you're going to lose, and that's a really talented Miami team.
04:37So I think everybody's got to put things in perspective a little bit.
04:41It's a hard start to the year.
04:43All right, let's roll, okay?
04:45With tradition comes responsibility, all right?
04:48Well, we get an opportunity, all right, to play in this place.
04:51This special place, all right?
04:527.30, Saturday night.
04:54Who it starts with?
04:55It starts with number 10, the quarterback, all right?
04:57He makes the thing go, okay?
04:58He's the leading passer, he's the leading rusher on the squad.
05:02Marcel Reed raised the ceiling on the quarterback position at Texas A&M.
05:07Now the question is, how good can he be?
05:09Start fast across the board at all positions.
05:13Must have great pursuit and gain tackle.
05:15Get to the down ball, all right?
05:17That's the mentality.
05:18That's our key to victory.
05:19I think it's just really good for college football to have brands like that clashing early and to give us those measuring sticks for both of those teams to have a really good sense of who they are.
05:30Don't be a snooze guy, all right?
05:32Don't be a snooze guy.
05:33Do it now.
05:34You just got to applaud it because not everyone is willing to do that.
05:38Do it now.
05:39Fix it.
05:40Get it done now, right?
05:41Play fast now.
05:42Do it now.
05:43Have that mentality about yourself.
05:47Have a sense of urgency about yourself and everything that you do.
05:50So as soon as you come into this building, have a sense of urgency.
05:53As soon as you get your ass up in the morning, have a sense of urgency about everything you do.
05:59If you do that, you're going to be that much better.
06:01I know this week we're going to hit the ground running for sure.
06:06Practice is going to be hard.
06:07Take the field.
06:08Hurry up.
06:09Hurry up.
06:10The mindset we play at home is always defend our home.
06:24It's our house.
06:25We don't want someone walking into our house, kicking our front door down and taking our stuff.
06:32Especially when you're with your brothers.
06:34The competition is going to be through the roof.
06:36No one likes losing, obviously.
06:38And our team is going to show that, you know, within this week of practice.
06:41The first time to play in Notre Dame Stadium each season is special.
06:46And we have to make sure we prepare in a way of understanding the opportunity that we have.
06:51Step, step, step, step, step, step.
06:54To play in front of our home fans versus the top 25 team, it's going to be a great experience.
07:00Just remember, like what Coach Mick talked about, the sense of urgency.
07:04I believe your sense of urgency is a reflection of how important something is to you.
07:09So we've got to make sure that the importance of elevating is more important than anything.
07:13Everybody wants it, man.
07:15I say it all the time, but not everybody's willing to do it.
07:18Our choices will reflect what we value.
07:20Everybody understand that?
07:21If it's important, we'll have a sense of urgency to do those things.
07:24Everybody on the same page?
07:26You got a meal?
07:27TGS on two!
07:28One on two!
07:29TGS!
07:49Is this your first Leopard Contrast?
07:53I believe in this group.
07:55We have four leprechauns.
07:57Gold, blue, and then two green.
08:01Gold is football.
08:03Always football.
08:07There aren't many mascots like us.
08:09We are always striving to be a force for good.
08:12The leprechaun signifies that.
08:15Welcome to the 2025-2026 Notre Dame Leprechaun Tryouts.
08:22Who's ready?
08:23Whoo!
08:24All right!
08:26The in-person tryout is a combination of a pep rally or in-game scenario, which they're only given two minutes to prepare for.
08:35They're given an envelope with a prompt and say, hey, now go out there and perform that.
08:39What?
08:40Whoo!
08:41Let's go!
08:42We are Andy!
08:45A media interview.
08:46Marcus Freeman was an excellent coach these past three years and he's going to continue doing great things.
08:51It's a mental game because you prepare for everything that you can, but then what product are you going to put out?
08:57Are you confident?
08:58Did you freeze up?
08:59I'm McKenna Englehart.
09:00I'm a current senior and I've been a leprechaun for two years so far.
09:12For me, the process started out as a bit of a joke actually.
09:16They had sent out a notice about, oh, you can be one of the leprechauns.
09:19And I started to realize, oh, there's a lot more to this than just being there at sports games.
09:26And so that kept me coming back.
09:28Leprechaun McKenna, good to meet you guys.
09:30I think something that's really special about McKenna as a leprechaun is one, how much she's grown in her role.
09:37We're really happy with the legacy of everyone that comes and plays and gets to be a part of this community.
09:43The last couple of years, she's covered both men's and women's soccer, hockey, lacrosse, and she brings a really unique style to the role.
09:52Awesome.
09:53We are not a traditional mascot in that people see our faces, they get to know our names.
10:00And while we are still conveying that kind of playful spirit of Notre Dame, at the end of the day, we still are a version of ourselves.
10:08This braiding is definitely where the dance experience comes in.
10:14I get butterflies still, I would say, before almost any event I do as leprechaun.
10:21With tryouts, everyone there is there to see you.
10:25That makes me scared.
10:27We give it up for Leprechaun McKenna!
10:31Anyone can come watch, and they fill one of the gyms.
10:38Oh, come on, come on, let's hear it.
10:41Yeah, okay, this way, this way.
10:44That's probably one of the biggest traditions about leprechaun tryouts.
10:49Back in the day, like, they would pack kids in lexardines and it would be crazy.
10:52All right, all right, Irish fans!
10:55Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and most importantly, Irish fans, how's it going?
11:02Okay, okay, I think you can do better than that.
11:07I said, how's it going, Irish fans?
11:10Now that is more like it.
11:16When we're judging to choose the students to portray the role, we're looking for a lot of different things.
11:23Are they charismatic?
11:24Do they understand that they're representing something so much bigger than themselves?
11:28There's kind of like a spark that they have.
11:32It's hard to put a word on, but you'll know when you see someone and you're like, yeah, that person, they got it.
11:38Here we go.
11:39We are Andy Mowder.
11:41You want to call some cheers, get the crowd involved, and just show that you're able to think quick on your feet and engage people with whatever environment you're thrown into.
11:53And then that's all done.
12:06We can take pictures quickly with our friends and family.
12:09You did a great job.
12:10Great job.
12:12I'll see you after.
12:13Is it everything you thought it would be?
12:15Maybe more intense.
12:16Okay.
12:17And we go into what is honestly one of my favorite parts.
12:20We change back into our normal clothes and we get to talk with the panel of judges.
12:25Hi, McKenna.
12:26Hey.
12:27How are you?
12:28Good.
12:29How are you doing?
12:30I'm okay.
12:32Tell us how you hope to continue to impact the role of the program in the university.
12:34I think what's really unique about this role is we each get to try to encapsulate a little bit of this community.
12:41You know, I want to continue leading this university in a way that reflects our core values and what our university stands for.
12:47What Notre Dame is at its core is a set of people.
12:50And the honor of the leprechaun is getting to serve those people in different ways.
12:53Being a part of it, we all know how special it is and how diverse it is.
12:57But I think through this role and showing a little bit of our personality, we're able to remind others around us of that.
13:04And that's something I personally hope to do.
13:07All right.
13:08Thanks, McKenna.
13:09Appreciate it.
13:10All right.
13:11We'll see you soon.
13:12Awesome.
13:13Thank you guys so much.
13:14The big difference we're talking about between gold and blue is just who's doing football.
13:19Who can command the larger crowd?
13:23You get a lot of spotlight on you when you're doing football and you get corrections pretty quick.
13:30Like, you know, people notice when you mess up.
13:33Candidly, what we have to base it on right now is if they had to do it tomorrow, who would do it best?
13:42OK, so we're feeling pretty good about this.
13:48Hello, hello.
13:49How's it going?
13:50No surprises here.
13:51We would love if you would be willing to portray the Notre Dame Leprechaun for the 2025-2026 season.
14:02Only one favor to ask is that you flip your vest inside out to portray the gold Leprechaun.
14:09Absolutely.
14:102025 will be the first year that there's the first woman portraying the role as the gold Leprechaun.
14:18Thanks.
14:19Congratulations.
14:20And so her stepping into that gives more little girls all over the world who are Notre Dame fans, fighting Irish fans, that they can do hard things and they can be in rooms that are traditionally filled with men.
14:32For me and for everyone that knows what Notre Dame is, they know how diverse it is and that no four students can ever perfectly encapsulate that.
14:42Though it's only right that we're here today at the Rockne Memorial to wake up these echoes before marching on to victory.
14:51At the end of the day, I just want them to have the best experience and to get to share a little bit of the magic of this place of Notre Dame.
15:02So when I say go Irish, you're going to have to shout back at me, beat Aggies as loud as you can.
15:10Here we go.
15:11Go Irish.
15:12Beat Aggies.
15:13Go Irish.
15:14Beat Aggies.
15:15Beat Aggies.
15:16Go Irish.
15:17Beat Aggies.
15:18Damn, it's good to be back home.
15:21I just want to make sure you guys remember, if you were here last year, the last time we were in that stadium, it was electric.
15:33And we need to make sure tomorrow night you keep that same energy and you guys go crazy.
15:40We were just down at A&M last year and it was pretty loud.
15:43But it's nothing compared to what it's going to be like tomorrow night.
15:46So we love you.
15:48We love you.
15:49I swear we love you.
15:51We're glad to be home.
15:52And I want to thank you guys so much for coming out here and supporting us.
15:55And let's make a crazy environment tomorrow.
15:58You know, last year they said Texas A&M was going to be crazy, but they have no idea what they're walking into coming to Notre Dame.
16:03All right, let's go Irish.
16:06Go Irish!
16:18Welcome everyone to the 2025 Notre Dame football home opener.
16:22Tonight, a primetime matchup of two ranked teams as the 16th ranked Texas A&M Aggies make their first trip to South Bend since 2000 to clash with the 8th ranked Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
16:37I think the loss two weeks ago just put kind of an extra sense of urgency in everyone from the players, the coaches, and certainly people on the sideline are acting like it is suddenly as big of a game as you can have at this point in the season.
16:54Coach Mick said all week, he talked about the first thing he said was with tradition comes responsibility of protecting this house, right?
17:02The opportunity to protect this stadium.
17:06He talked about having a sense of urgency, right?
17:09And that's got to be the consistent sense of urgency we have throughout the game, right?
17:14He talked about the opportunity, man.
17:16This is the only opportunity that matters.
17:19Nothing else matters but what we got right in front of us.
17:22This is the most exciting and electric atmosphere I have ever been a part of at Notre Dame.
17:52Opening drive of the game, not even a minute gone so far.
18:06As Reid takes the snap, he'll drop and swing it out.
18:09Pass is caught.
18:11Not going to be enough and they force a punt.
18:13One of the things we talked about was coming out of locker room and starting fast and defense forced a punt.
18:19Jordan Faison set to return.
18:21He's standing at the Irish 22.
18:23Oh, the kick is blocked!
18:25Blocked the 20!
18:26Loose ball!
18:27Picked double to 15!
18:28And this one's going to go for six!
18:30What a turn for the Irish!
18:33Touchdown Notre Dame!
18:35Special teams!
18:36Does it again!
18:38Does it again!
18:41Wow!
18:43I don't know exactly what I was doing at that moment, but I didn't even see the blocked punt.
18:47I just saw everybody going crazy.
18:49You gotta do your job.
18:52He almost took the ball away from the punter.
18:55What an amazing play!
19:00This is the Notre Dame we know.
19:04Huge momentum builder for our team and the start of that game.
19:10Well, they give it to Love.
19:11Double reverse back to Carr.
19:12He's got Reardon!
19:16Wide open down the floor!
19:17Sideline caught!
19:18At the 20!
19:19Inside the 10!
19:20Lunching for the pylon!
19:22And!
19:23He's just shy!
19:24Razzle-dazzle for the Irish!
19:29Saw that early in the call sheet.
19:31I was a little nervous.
19:32I didn't know how it was going to end up.
19:34What a play call and what an execution by the offense.
19:37Mike Denbrock in his bag a little bit here early.
19:41You know, kind of saw it develop.
19:42Saw Eli running pretty free.
19:45And then you say, hey, let's execute and throw the ball to where it needs to be.
19:49If it goes really well, like it did, it's a huge burst of energy for the whole team.
19:55It's a little bit of a risk, but, you know, we execute well.
19:59Carr will take the snap.
20:00Give it to Price.
20:01Running right.
20:02Cuts inside.
20:03Has a hole across the five.
20:04Still on his feet!
20:05Threw an arm tackle!
20:06And he's in!
20:07Touchdown!
20:08Notre Dame!
20:10The Price is right for Notre Dame from seven yards out to take the lead.
20:14I didn't think we started fast enough against Miami.
20:19Reid out of the shotgun.
20:20Play fakes.
20:21Looks left.
20:22Throws one-on-one.
20:23Leonard Moore is there!
20:24And it's intercepted!
20:25Wow!
20:26No fly zone when 15 is in the area code!
20:30You go block punt and then an interception after that.
20:33So it was a great way to start the game for sure.
20:35Irish on the move.
20:36Leading by three.
20:37Carr looking on a wheel route.
20:38Love's wide open!
20:39Catch to the 20!
20:40He's inside the 10 for the goal line!
20:43Touchdown!
20:45CJ Carr to Jeremiah Love!
20:4836 yards!
20:49And the Irish extend the lead!
20:55They just kind of left him naked out there.
20:58And kind of put a ball even probably a little too hard out there.
21:02Nobody takes Jeremiah Love, the most dangerous guy on the field for Notre Dame.
21:06And a touchdown for the Irish.
21:09When someone's that wide open, just put it on him and let him run.
21:12Especially Jeremiah, but he made a heck of a catch.
21:16And there is a ton of football left!
21:21Hard.
21:22He just lofts it too high and intercepted!
21:26Scooby Williams!
21:27And this time, A&M is right there for the takeaway.
21:31A late jump pass by CJ Carr.
21:34He'll want to ram that one next time he looks at it.
21:37Reed takes a shotgun snap.
21:47Fires.
21:48Craver brings it in.
21:49Another dart from Marcel Reed.
21:52He's slinging it right now.
21:54Well, I think they have some explosive playmakers on the outside.
21:57We knew going into the game they were fast.
22:00And the quarterback, you know, threw some great passes and they made some plays.
22:06Direct snap to Moss.
22:07Runs between the tackles for the goal line.
22:09Spins!
22:10And he's in!
22:11And the Aggies, for the first time all game, have the lead.
22:18Not a whole lot needs to be said, right?
22:20It's 24 to 28, right?
22:2224 is enough, but we need more.
22:24Defense, we gotta step up.
22:26Don't blink!
22:28TTS on two!
22:29One, two!
22:30TTS!
22:31Carr has fields down to the bottom along the near numbers.
22:34Takes the shotgun snap.
22:35Looking that way.
22:36Firing for fields.
22:37Along the sideline.
22:38Goes up and he brings it in!
22:39Oh!
22:40What a catch by Malachi Fields!
22:42On third and 13.
22:44Brings it in for 27 yards.
22:48Carr stands in a pistol formation with Price behind him.
22:51Gets the snap off.
22:52Just in time.
22:53Hands it off to Price.
22:54Running left.
22:55Trying to get to the edge.
22:56Stays on his feet at the 15.
22:57Gets a block at the 10.
22:58Janari and Price is in!
22:59Touchdown!
23:00Notre Dame!
23:01And the Irish are back on top!
23:04We have the best, you know, one-two punch at running back in the country.
23:09And all eyes are on J-Love.
23:12And then Jadorian comes in and scores two touchdowns for us.
23:16It's huge.
23:17A 17-yard scamper!
23:19And Jadorian has done it again!
23:22He is one of the most consistent players we have.
23:26You trust when he has the ball in his hands that he's going to make something positive happen.
23:31He's a selfless individual.
23:33Could be on the field every play.
23:34But he makes the most of his opportunities.
23:39And now with 9.06 left, you're looking at a drive that's going to dictate how this game plays out.
23:46The whole second half has just continued to take back the lead.
23:50We'd go up.
23:51They'd take it back.
23:52We'd take it back.
23:53They'd take it back.
23:54Carr's in the shotgun.
23:55They need their own 48 to pick up a first down.
23:58Carr drops.
23:59Looks left.
24:00Throws.
24:01Has fields!
24:02Yes!
24:03Caught it!
24:04Carr dropped it in a bucket!
24:05Incredible accuracy by C.J. Carr.
24:08It was a tight ball game and our offense had been rolling for the majority of the game.
24:15I wanted to make sure that drive was no different.
24:20You can continue to execute.
24:22Third and a long three.
24:23They need the 17-yard line.
24:254.35 to go in the game.
24:26It's tied at 34.
24:28Carr.
24:29Claps for the ball.
24:30Hands it off to Price.
24:31Stutter steps in the hole.
24:32Lunges forward.
24:33He's not going to have it.
24:34It's going to be fourth and about a yard and a half.
24:36And now the decision.
24:38The communication between myself and Coach Dembrock was, hey, I was really thinking about kicking the field goal and just going up three and then I kind of took a peek at Dembrock.
24:46We need to go forward.
24:47Pistol formation.
24:49Love's behind Carr.
24:50Play clock's at five.
24:51Now he motions out of the backfield.
24:53Love's by himself.
24:55Kind of the message was, you know, this is it.
24:57Two on the play clock.
24:58Takes a direct snap.
24:59Here goes Love.
25:00On fourth down!
25:01He's got it!
25:02Oh, what a run!
25:03Across the 15!
25:05Jeremiah Love moves the chains with six yards.
25:09Fitting that the best player on offense tonight gets his number called when they need it most.
25:15Gutsy stuff for Marcus Freeman.
25:18Then the thought process was like, okay, let's try to use some of this time.
25:23He'll give it to Love.
25:24Puts his head down.
25:25Breaks one tackle.
25:26Across the five!
25:27He's in!
25:28Touchdown!
25:29Jeremiah Love!
25:30And the Irish lead!
25:33And, you know, the next play, Jay Love scores a touchdown.
25:36With 2.53 to go in regulation, Notre Dame's on top by a touchdown!
25:4740-34!
25:49And Love is in the air!
25:51In South Bend!
26:03Critical extra point from Burnett to make it a seven-point game.
26:07I was on the sideline.
26:08We were getting back to the iPads.
26:10Kind of heard the crowd go.
26:15Oh, no!
26:16They botched the snap!
26:17Tyler Buckner!
26:18Rolling left!
26:19Has to throw!
26:20Incomplete!
26:21Oh, no!
26:23They missed the extra point with a botched snap!
26:27And now, A&M with a touchdown could possibly win the game!
26:31Any time something negative happens, you're disappointed, but you gotta get refocused for the defense going on the field.
26:38And so, you know, you can't dwell on the negatives.
26:40Oh, the special teams have been so good tonight!
26:44And now, 40-34, and the pressure's really on the defense.
26:51You gotta move forward and win the next play.
26:54Reed takes the snap, throws underneath, it's caught by Craver, has a seam across the 50, along the far sideline, inside the 40, shoved out of bounds by Tate Johnson.
27:04Just like that, the Aggies rip off a 35-yard play and they're in business.
27:09They made some great plays because they had some really good players and executed well.
27:13Fourth and goal, Notre Dame leads 40-34.
27:17The season very much on the line right now.
27:25Reed motions, Concepcion to the left, takes the shotgun snap, fourth and goal.
27:29Here's the ball game, pumps, throws for the end zone!
27:32Oh, what a catch!
27:37It's brought in by Nate Borkercher.
27:41A desperation play for the Aggies pays off.
27:46We had the guy covered.
27:47It was one-on-one and the tight end made a heck of a play.
27:50The quarterback threw a great ball.
27:54You know, I wouldn't change anything we did.
27:57And that is the ball game.
27:59Texas A&M comes to South Bend and shocks the Irish.
28:06And that is a heartbreaker for Notre Dame.
28:12It stinks.
28:14Nobody wants to start the year off 0-2, especially with the talent we have on offense, defense, special teams.
28:21But we are.
28:22You know, that's the reality of it.
28:24How do you address your team?
28:26What's important in that moment when everybody's disappointed?
28:31We've got to get back to work.
28:33You have a leader that's unshakable and unbreakable.
28:37I'm going to lead in the best way I know how.
28:39And that's fast and furious.
28:41These two losses are just devastating.
28:58I'm glad they're still in the top 25.
29:00It's still a very good football team.
29:02They just happen to have gotten beat by two better football teams.
29:11After a loss, you try to figure out why.
29:13What are the reasons?
29:14I think we all go through different emotional stages, from frustration to disbelief to, okay, how do we use this to acceptance to make us better?
29:28You don't want, you shouldn't want to be a head coach if you don't want to leave during tough times.
29:31I don't want to be in this situation, but I get more excited to leave right now than ever before.
29:38How you leave during tough times affects how people see you.
29:41What do you guys think?
29:45I think that's spot on.
29:49We're on two.
29:51It's not going to change.
29:52We're not going to un-lose those games.
29:55We need to go.
29:56That's right.
29:58I trust it.
29:59I know we will.
30:00I know we have the guys, too.
30:03There's nobody else.
30:04I'd rather do it with them.
30:05I know you guys feel the same way.
30:07Like, how do you think is half of the battle?
30:10I hope he did this.
30:11That or not.
30:12That's not how we play.
30:13You know what I mean?
30:14So we just got to, especially defensively, which is not executing at the same rate we did last year.
30:20You know, you have to be able to collect your thoughts by the time you meet with your team.
30:26Probably 48 hours after the game.
30:28You know, for me, it was just trying to put all the pieces together and make them understand that outcomes don't always tell the true story.
30:36You try not to be outcome driven, but we're evaluated off of outcomes.
30:40Our focus has to be to reach our full potential, and we've got to attack ways to do that.
30:46Good.
30:47Here we go.
30:48We're ready.
30:49Yes.
30:50All right, let's roll.
30:51You all have to self-reflect and self-eval.
30:52Okay?
30:53Every person in this room has got to say, okay, we didn't get it done.
30:54Okay?
30:55Why?
30:56What didn't I do?
30:57What didn't I do?
30:58And how can we make it better?
30:59And until we have that mentality, guess what?
31:00We're going to do this.
31:01Until everybody collectively says, okay, where did I fail?
31:06And not point your finger.
31:08Like, I could come in here and sit here and go, hey guys, we're, we're five points away from being two and O.
31:11What's that going to do?
31:12I mean, make me feel better.
31:13Make us feel better.
31:14The reality is we're 0 and 2.
31:17We're all the same.
31:18But always.
31:19We're all the same.
31:20Now, we're all the same.
31:21And we're all the same.
31:22And we're all the same.
31:23We're all the same.
31:24We're all the same.
31:25We're all the same.
31:26We're all the same.
31:27The reality is we're 0 and 2.
31:29gonna do i mean make me feel better make us feel better the reality is we're oh and two
31:36don't hide from it we're oh and two that's where we're at what are we gonna do to get out of it
31:44i just told the captain it's crazy how two people can see the exact same thing and have completely
31:50different opinions about what they saw people outside of here notre dame football is oh and
31:56two offense is great and the defense sucks it's somebody it's one person's fault buckner it's
32:00your fault because you dropped drake it's your fault it's coach astor's fault it's coach freeman's
32:04fault it's every person in this room's fault it's every person in this room's fault everybody looks
32:12at last year man you guys had a great season you guys been in that championship game there was some
32:16pain if you were in this room after new london that hurt i'm telling you we're gonna reach this full
32:22potential but you gotta understand there's gonna be some pain we gotta go through it you got a
32:26head coach i swear to god we'll go down swinging every day there's only one way to go and that's
32:31four and we got to do it together because that's what family does and it starts with this opportunity
32:37on saturday go get our first taste okay but it takes struggling and pain today and evaluating and
32:43owning it and making sure we do whatever it takes to get better everybody clear let's go to work tgs on two
32:49one two yes oh and two we get to write our own chapter everything right there in front of us
32:56that's that's the mindset we gotta have right yeah we played well but we ain't played well enough
33:12none of us want to be in this situation losing sucks
33:15none of us can't sleep can't eat don't want to talk to nobody you know what man roll our sleeve
33:20up man let's go back to work so only thing we know how to do is get better correct all the
33:25little details that we overlooked that long clock goes off get up ten toes down go to work
33:36we play good but we still can elevate hey you're a great player but you're a better person to lead this
33:50team that's willing to win
33:52i grew up in denison texas which is about an hour north of dallas texas
34:16small town where everyone really knows each other
34:17growing up it was either your texas longhorns fans or oklahoma sooners fan and i wasn't really
34:29much either i wanted to do something different i want to do something that was going to really
34:33change my life for the better and put denison texas on the map and my family on the map and
34:38that was go to a random catholic university in southbound indiana hands it off to price jd is a
34:48playmaker he's running left looking for the edge jd can pretty much do it all he can run routes
34:53in block run the ball turns on the jet jd made some incredible plays last season i see it every
34:59single day you know all the eyes get pointed to jay love but then you put your darling and it's almost
35:04like okay jay love's out of the game and then jd does the same thing jay love does and makes 11
35:09players on the other team look slow look like they can't tackle runs through a tackle in my eyes he's
35:16the best running backs in the country jdorian price
35:22i've always had people looking up to me my whole life
35:27growing up i was the older brother of two younger sisters so i've always had to be
35:31the mature one not always leading by my voice but just leading by example there wasn't any male
35:39figures around growing up with a bunch of women in the house definitely i would think made him stronger
35:48my mom was always there and my sisters were always there so i knew how to respect people and
35:52and do the right things definitely seeing his mom being single parent i think that molded him
35:59usually you would think it would be the opposite not having a father around my mom played a huge
36:04role in my everyday life she sacrificed a lot of things having to work a job but also take care of
36:09three young kids and we were all in a lot of extracurricular activities like football basketball
36:15track baseball i mean i played it all her having to navigate this crazy world of you know sports and
36:22you know keeping us off the streets and things like that was uh i bet it was pretty challenging for her but
36:28it was really important for me to see her do those things
36:36at the time i was 30 years old at a certain age you're supposed to do mammograms and breast
36:44examination and once i went and made an appointment to see the doctor they did an exam and they all came
36:51in and closed the door and i'm looking and that's when i knew and i said you've got to be kidding me
36:59we feel something it's a lump
37:04what do you tell a 12 year old a nine-year-old and a six-year-old i was the mature one in the household
37:11but i still didn't really understand you know how serious cancer was but then then i started to look
37:16and think now i have to step up even more for my sisters and be there for them he was humble
37:23still real quiet he just observed that's what i needed at the time just them being kids and just
37:29being around helped me just helped me knowing that i had to be around for them biggest thing for me and
37:35my my sisters was we wanted our mom to come home from the hospital to a clean home yard cut kitchen
37:40cleaning things like that so just to make my mom happy any way we could because we knew she was
37:45going through tough times there was the stages where her hair started to fall out and that's
37:50when i started to realize oh this is like a serious thing like she's losing her hair and sometimes i'll
37:55walk in on her crying and that really that really hit me deep i didn't know how to take it i didn't know
38:00what i didn't comprehend i guess well why me why me she didn't know how much longer she had to live
38:09at that time when my mom was going through those tough times for me it was always sports where i
38:18could really push my emotions on too you know football if you're angry you can really use the
38:26the football field and your abilities to just go out there and express those emotions out there
38:30in november 2017 i was around 14 years old when it was announced that she was cancer free i remember
38:42it was a big thing we all met up at this church at dennison texas and the whole family was there
38:49everyone had on pink shirts and things like that and that's when i really knew like this is very important
38:54thankful blessed it was a miracle don't really think everybody was shocked because they already
39:07knew i was a fighter it was so much relief but it also had changed me forever you know just because
39:15she was she didn't have cancer anymore she wasn't going through chemo anymore it didn't change the fact
39:20that i was still the older brother in the household and i still had to look out for my sisters because
39:25it was already ingrained in my brain to just you know work hard every day and it motivated me still
39:30on the field because you never know what tomorrow brings
39:36i'm super blessed to still have my mom your mom is your rock i'm blessed because not a lot of other
39:43people still have you know their mom or both parents to this day i make sure my mom comes to every game
39:51whenever she can amazing the loudness how people come together and the support it hadn't hit us yet
40:06reality it's not quite hit us yet because we've been just going through the struggle for so long
40:13so we're just just taking it all yeah it keeps me going
40:24i think about the 12 year old me and everything i've gone through my whole life and now ending up
40:29at university of notre dame playing football at the biggest stage game day when we hear the song and
40:35it really it really hits me like this is how far i've come and every moment up until now has really
40:40meant something the thing that comes to mind is everything happens for a reason god always has a
40:57plan my mom always told me that
41:17happy college football saturday america and welcome to notre dame football
41:22a classic college football rivalry is renewed between the purdue
41:28boilermakers and the 24th ranked fighting irish of notre dame
41:35let's be clear if you want to stay in the college football playoffs you got to start beating the
41:39courage off the teams and it has to start today
41:45we're back here we are man this is the only remedy there is
41:54it's transactional you play harder you out execute them and we get what we want
41:58that's all you got to win this play
42:10everybody clear i'm not worried about the game i'm not worried about the outcome notre dame gets the
42:15ball now for the first time offensively we got to win this play right now this is the play we got to
42:21win cj carr starting his third game of his career takes the snap and play fakes car looking has a clean
42:29pocket taking a shot has fields deep down there he catches it at 25 across the 20 he's in touchdown
42:36notre dame on the first offensive play they strike
42:42knew we wanted to take a shot the first play great protection great ball and then a great catch
42:48great execution
42:53it's kind of crazy you know first play first drive
42:58tut and just like that notre dame is on the board
43:04hey where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go
43:08where'd he go where'd he go where'd he go
43:10you already know what i'm gonna say coach don't look don't do a back clip again who did
43:14who have you scored he did a back clip in the end zone no he didn't
43:19hey hey they just warned me next hey they said another back look that's 15. nobody's worth 15. all right
43:30you know set the tone for the game
43:33notre dame is guaranteeing or dominate
43:36we give it to love and luck's got some room to go and flash that speed
43:42had a way to run four had a way to run price gets his first carry running right has a full head of
43:46steam across the 10 looking for the pylon dives for the goal line touchdown
43:50those two guys are pretty special they're unselfish you know each of those guys can be on the field
44:08at every play you can give them the ball every play but they know there can usually only be one running
44:13back on the field at a time you need us a turnover brown out of the shotgun looks right throws on a
44:21slant oh it's picked off picked off in the secondary notre dame has the football
44:26that's what we needed that was all because of the work of your linebackers and that ball popped up
44:35into the open arms of christian gray that's what we needed that's what we needed that's what we needed
44:44let's go notre dame leads 21 to 10. carr will hand it off to jadarian price who finds a hole and tries
44:50to get out to the near sideline good a hard running by jadarian price third and one price gets the carry
44:56stutter steps gets inside of the 10 he's got the first down this is just a wonderful design game plan
45:03let's run the ball to the edges in between the tackles are will hand it off to price running to
45:09the right bounces outside he's inside the five looking for the end zone again and jadarian price
45:14is in the house for the second time touchdown notre dame hell yeah way to finish it
45:22all right just been informed from the officials here that there is a weather delay dangerous
45:28lightning too close so they are sending players to the locker room we're going to suspend their
45:35suspend the game suspend the game let's go locker room everybody locker room
45:41i think you have to one understand how long it's going to be
45:53you have to be able to take off your equipment relax
45:58and then utilize the time efficiently and then the hardest part is is the challenge is to get
46:05mentally ready to go again here's all i gotta say okay offense right we have to avoid the
46:10catastrophic error we know that right they had one chance and we had one error okay they forced
46:15us to fumble you've got to take care of the ball but continue all you're doing is playing harder than
46:19them and you're out executing them so continue to do that okay defensively you have to do your job
46:25that's all it is man that's all it is man do your job come out the locker room and let's go hunt
46:32everybody good let's go here we go dgs all two one two let's go
46:39jadarian price is going to get his hands on it here from one yard deep bringing it back right to
46:43left so he can find a crease gets through one tackle he's at the 25 across the 30 breaks the tackle
46:48he's across midfield he's going to go all the way
46:50touchdown jadarian price kickoff return td how about jadarian price he's got 199 all-purpose yards
47:03with three touchdowns in the first half and that's really the standard execute no matter the
47:10circumstances just get your job done loves the back he'll give it to him bounces out to the right
47:16puts his foot in the turf of the 40 trying to get all the way to the outside to the sideline
47:19love turns the corner of the 30 and streaking from the end zone touchdown notre dame with a run by love
47:27there's no better feeling than scoring a touchdown at your home notre dame running the ball towards
47:33victory hey keep hey keep helping hey that's what the team needs you to do man we need you we need
47:41good job good job who's just dominating are from the shotgun has time looking down the near sideline
47:47he's got phase on it 20 catches the 15 inside the 10 for the end zone phase lines in just a perfect
47:55ball from cj carr first and goal price is the back gets the handoff running right cuts inside for the
48:03goal line he's in again another touchdown for jadarian price his third on the ground and his fourth
48:11in the game
48:16i think i've always said this is that the unselfishness that's what makes him special he
48:20understands the leg gratification he works he prepares and he takes advantage of um the
48:25opportunities that are given to him incredible day for jadarian price the kind of day that a running
48:31back can only dreamer
48:40notre dame has their first win of the season
48:44they beat the purdue boilermakers 56 to 30 and the offense makes a big statement in south bed
48:53but the star of the show is jadarian price and his four touchdowns who would have thought that i'd be
49:02here small town dennison texas and now i'm playing for notre dame i think about it every day like this
49:07is crazy sometimes i have to sit back and come back to reality like this is real
49:17i knew i wanted to be a college football player since the beginning it was always a dream of mine
49:21and the fact that i'm actually here at the biggest stage is truly a blessing
49:25this is where you work hard this feeling that we all have right now there is no drug there is no drink
49:31there is nothing that could give you this type of feeling the feeling of victory especially when you put
49:37everything into this right and and everybody now instead of doing this now it's time to do this
49:44right when we have success it's time to point your finger at everybody else man because it's the
49:48greatest team sport there is appreciate the way you guys stayed together right this is the start
49:55probably 200 probably 80 days since we've been able to do is maybe 90 right you know what time it is
50:00one two three here come the iris let's go enjoy it man
50:09oh
50:23we will fight in everything
50:29another day
50:39For every day we'll win on the run.
50:41For our loyal sons and daughters,
50:42one of the victory.
50:44TPS on two.
50:45One, two.
50:46TPS.
51:09One, two.
