Three of the six Indonesian nationals trapped in an adrift tugboat at Pantai Batu Rakit here, were successfully rescued at 6.20 pm on Sunday (Dec 15).

Kuala Nerus Fire and Rescue Station chief Azmi Omar said the three men were rescued using a rope method attached to the boat and tied to the breakwater rocks.

00:10Kuala Neru's Fire and Rescue Station Chief Azmi Omar said firefighters used ropes tied
00:15to the boat and breakwater rocks after a contractor helped pull the vessel about 50 metres offshore,
00:22closer to the beach with an excavator.
00:25The rescue took about an hour and a half amid strong waves and all victims were brought
00:29safely to shore.
00:31Police said all six Indonesian nationals, including the three rescued earlier, are at
00:36the Baturakit police station for further action.
00:39Their employer has been instructed to arrange their return travel, and all were found to
00:44have valid identification documents and permits.
00:47It is understood that the tugboat was en route to tow a sand-laden barge from Songkla, Thailand
00:53to Punggol, Singapore.
