00:00This is hard-working skin care, Wish TV's StormTrack 8, presented by Morgan & Morgan.
00:09All Access Andy Heisman Trophy, brought to you by First Merchants Bank.
00:16For the first time in Indiana Hoosiers history, the Heisman Trophy is coming back to Bloomington.
00:22Quarterback Fernando Mendoza won in a landslide over the other three finalists.
00:27Our sports director, Anthony Calhoun, has more from the big moment in the Big Apple.
00:32Angela, hey, thanks a lot.
00:34As you mentioned, history was made.
00:36It's Saturday night here in the Big Apple, and now the Hoosiers star quarterback, Fernando Mendoza.
00:42He is literally on the big stage, winning the Heisman Trophy.
00:46And what an idea would be for him, his family, his coaches, his teammates here,
00:51as he takes home the most prestigious individual award you'll receive in college football,
00:56the Heisman Trophy.
00:58Of course, he thanked everyone, his coaches, his family as well.
01:02But one thing that grabbed our attention was what happened after he won the Heisman Trophy.
01:07Take a look at this video here.
01:09There's a lot of celebrating going on with Fernando Mendoza and, of course, his teammates
01:13hanging out in Times Square here in New York City.
01:17You can see the folks here telling him congratulations and why not.
01:21That this guy's had an incredible season here with IU.
01:24We know what he's done on the football field.
01:26But also that the person he is off the field as well.
01:30One thing I took away from just being around him throughout the time here these past couple
01:34of days is the fact that he has so much respect from his teammates.
01:38These guys, they just love this guy.
01:41Not only on the field, but him as a person off the field as well.
01:44He knows he wouldn't have had a big night like he had on Saturday night if it weren't
01:48from the support from his teammates, his coaches, and, of course, his family.
01:53It's the truth.
01:54Because without them, I would not be here today.
01:57And like I said, this is a team of work.
01:58We're 13-0 Big Ten champs.
02:00We still have a long way to go to the college football playoff.
02:02However, the reason that we're here and that I'm here and holding this trophy is because
02:05of my team.
02:06It's because of my faith in God and what he's blessed me to do.
02:09It's because of my family.
02:11And I'm always going to keep on pushing that message because I care about them.
02:14And they care about me.
02:15They pour on me.
02:16I'm going to try to pour everything I have into them and those relationships.
02:19You know, Mendoza told me on Friday that he wants to take that Heisman Trophy back to
02:24Bloomington.
02:24Well, one thing we know for sure now, that trophy will be in Bloomington for all those
02:29faithful, yes, IU fans who supported him every step of the way.
02:35Next up for Mendoza and those losers, they'll get set for the Rose Bowl coming up a few weeks
02:40from now, taking place on New Year's Day.
02:41Today is to get ready to take on either Oklahoma or Alabama there on the West Coast in the
02:48Rose Bowl.
02:48And of course, Wish TV will be there every step of the way.
02:52What a time here in New York, folks.
02:54Anthony Calhoun, Wish TV and wishtv.com.
02:57From the East Coast to out West, 44-year-old Phillip Rivers is reportedly starting for the
03:03Indianapolis Colts tomorrow in Seattle.
03:05Our Andrew Chernoff is out in the Emerald City ahead of tomorrow's battle with the Seahawks.
03:11The eyes of the NFL world are focused on this city, Seattle, Washington, as everyone wants
03:16to see how Phillip Rivers performs when the Colts take on the Seahawks tomorrow afternoon.
03:21The expectation is that the 44-year-old quarterback will be making the start for Indianapolis against
03:27Seattle.
03:27It will be his first NFL game in five years, and he knows what's at stake as the Colts are
03:34currently on the outside looking in when it comes to the AFC playoffs.
03:38Got some good memories in Seattle.
03:40Got some good memories in Seattle.
03:41Some not so great.
03:43And I know how good that sticking team is and how well they're playing right now.
03:47So, you know, me at 30 years old, me at 44 years old, going to Seattle and winning in
03:532025 in week 14 or whatever it is, it's going to be tough.
03:56It's going to be tough.
03:57Again, it came back down from those kind of challenges.
04:00You've got a guy that's done it at a high level.
04:02Obviously, it's been some time for him.
04:04But the leadership that he has and the juice he's going to bring to this football team is
04:09going to, you know, I think it's going to be awesome for our guys.
04:12Like I said, we're 8-5.
04:14You know, we've got everything we want in front of us.
04:16And we've got to go do it.
04:17You know, we've got to held a challenge this week in Seattle that we've got to get ready
04:20for.
04:20You know, it's all about one.
04:22In this league, narratives, odds, all that other stuff.
04:26That changes every week.
04:27Just got to focus on one play at a time, one day at a time, one week at a time.
04:31You know, obviously, like I said, we're going nowhere to West Coast to play a good team.
04:34But we're a good team.
04:36And we proved that throughout this year.
04:38So we've got to go out there, execute and play hard.
04:40No doubt that the addition of Phillip Rivers inside that locker room has added an extra
04:44boost of energy, something needed after Daniel Jones suffered that season-ending injury last
04:50Sunday in Jacksonville.
04:51We'll have you covered throughout the day tomorrow as the Colts take on the Seahawks.
04:56It all begins with countdown to kickoff at 11 a.m.
04:58For now, though, in Seattle, Andrew Chernoff, Wishtv, and wishtv.com.
05:03Andrew just said it.
05:05You don't even need the reminder.
05:06It's week 14 or whatever it is, it's Phillip Rivers says.
05:09The only one-hour Colts pregame show in town is right here on Wishtv.
05:13Tune in at 11 a.m. to noon.
05:14Sports director Anthony Calhoun, he's planning to host it, not in New York, but here in Indianapolis.
05:20We'll have it all for you coming up before the Seahawks game tomorrow.
05:23So, Collin Chooks, Darren DeVries, and his Hoosiers hoping to bring some of Mendoza's
05:27winning magic to Rupp Arena tonight.
05:29IU controlling the first half.
05:31Tucker DeVries left on an island up top.
05:34He's going to make you pay when you do that.
05:35Hoosiers up seven.
05:36DeVries finished with 15.
05:38Second half, Tayton Connerway.
05:41He gets his shot from deep downtown.
05:44IU's lead back to seven.
05:46Kentucky takes over after that, though.
05:48A 10-0 run.
05:49Brandon Garrison throws it down here for the exclamation point.
05:52And Cats go up nine and take down the Hoosiers, 72-16.
05:57Sixth-ranked Purdue hosting Marquette.
05:59This was a good old-fashioned Boiler beatdown thanks to Oscar Clough.
06:04Funky little and one here.
06:07Purdue up nine.
06:0822 points, 11 boards for the big man.
06:10Boilers dominating inside and out.
06:12Fletcher Loyer left alone in the corner.
06:15Yeah, that's it.
06:16Purdue had a 16-point lead at half.
06:18They cruised the rest of the way, 79-59 over Marquette.
06:21Don Montez Bulldogs giving their fans a double-overtime thriller in Hinkle this afternoon.
06:27Butler down three.
06:28Not anymore.
06:30Bentley Bizjack ties it up in the double-overtime.
06:33He had 26 points.
06:35Seconds winding down.
06:36Still tied.
06:36Michael Ajayi steal.
06:38Evan Hayward.
06:40Step back.
06:41Oh, yeah, that's the game winner for the Brabant alum.
06:45Bulldogs never give it back.
06:471-10 to 1-13.
06:49Or 1-13 to 1-10, I should say.
06:51The final over Providence.
06:53A lot to celebrate.
06:54If only the Breeze's Hoosiers could have gotten a win over Kentucky.
06:58Hey, there's still plenty to celebrate.
07:00Just, you know, what's that?
07:02Can you win everything?
07:04A sweep?
07:04Sure.
07:05There we go.
07:06I was looking at a betting term, but I couldn't think of it.
07:09Anyway.
07:10The cold, not something that's a winning.
07:13There we go.
07:14Maybe the cold is what's stopping our brains from fully functioning.
07:18The good news is the warmer weather is coming our way mid-next week.
07:21Those ain't winning numbers next two days.
07:23Hey, join us tomorrow.
07:24You have a good night.
07:30In a season defined by moments, Fernando Mendoza answered all of them.
07:53When the pressure mounted, he stayed calm.
07:55When the game was on the line, he delivered.
08:01He didn't just make plays.
08:04He made statements.
08:06From clutch throws to commanding drives.
08:11From leader in the huddle to difference maker on Saturdays, Mendoza became the heartbeat of Indiana football.
08:17Records fell.
08:17Records fell.
08:21Expectations changed.
08:23History followed.
08:24Here to New York.
08:29A city that has endless opportunities.
08:33Tonight, an opportunity awaits.
08:35To hoist the prestigious Heisman Trophy.
08:40In a season defined by moments, the winner of the 2025 Heisman Trophy is.
08:50Another moment answered by Heisman Doza.
08:52I can't feel my body right now.
09:00It's a great feeling.
09:01And it's going to be a better feeling as, you know, my team, or our team, going to make this do as well as possible.
09:08That's the winner, Fernando Mendoza, a Heisman Trophy winner.
09:18It seems like all season long, we've talked about how IU is making history.
09:22And now we are adding another milestone to that list.
09:25Our Eli Gain has more from New York City, where he watched the IU quarterback become the first Hoosier with the Heisman.
09:31Eli.
09:31Hi, Allison.
09:35Yes, just an incredible evening here in Times Square, New York City, you name it.
09:39It was a night that we have all been waiting for for about the last week when we had a pretty good idea that Fernando Mendoza was going to become your 2025 Heisman Trophy winner.
09:49And right now, in New York City, the snow just started falling.
09:52I know you're used to seeing it back in Indiana from today.
09:54Well, let's just call the snow here some confetti to celebrate Mendoza's historic free, becoming the first IU player to win the Heisman Trophy.
10:04And he did it in landslide fashion.
10:08643 first-place votes, finishing ahead of Diego Pavia to win this award.
10:14He led the league, or I should say the nation, in passing touchdowns this year with 33.
10:19He's done everything he wants to off of the field as a Heisman candidate, on the field certainly as a Heisman candidate.
10:27And tonight, he saw it all come to fruition.
10:29Your 2025 Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza.
10:33To join this prestigious fraternity, I believe it's one of the most prestigious fraternities in all of America, and especially in the sports world.
10:44And to join it, have my new Heisman brothers and rubbing shores of all those legends, it means a world of my family.
10:50I know that I want to be extremely involved and try to put on my best act for the Heisman, whether it's caring for the responsibility, gratitude, or humility.
10:58My emotion was coming out on the stage, I was extremely nervous, and I can stand here thanking people for hours, and it's just true.
11:06I just want to cry tears of joy, because I think it means so much to everyone around myself.
11:13And the main man for that, Kurt Signetti, who took pictures with Mendoza with the Heisman Trophy afterwards in that press conference room.
11:20You saw in that video he was celebrating with his teammates.
11:23His teammates were fired up when he won this award.
11:26Afterwards, you also saw they made their way out here to Times Square.
11:30People were flooding around him.
11:31Everyone's asking, what's going on around here?
11:33But it was him celebrating under the bright lights here in the city of New York, carrying around that Heisman Trophy that'll be at IU for years and the rest of time to come.
11:44Fernando Mendoza, once again, your 2025 Heisman Trophy winner.
11:48Now, the attention moves to the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
11:53Covering Fernando Mendoza's historic night in New York City, I'm Eli Gain for 13 Sports.
11:58Thank you, Eli.
11:59Well, it's official, Phillip Rivers will be starting tomorrow for the Colts.
12:03The NFL Network is reporting he will be the single caller tomorrow when Indy takes on Seattle.
12:08Rivers is out of retirement after QB Daniel Jones tore his Achilles.
12:13We also now know Jones underwent surgery and is expected to be sidelined for the next six to eight months.
12:19He could potentially be cleared in time for training camp ahead of next season.
12:23Either way, Rivers and Riley Leonard are taking the reins for now.
12:27Our Dominic Miranda will have the latest right here on Channel 13.
12:31Angela?
12:31Well, today, the Purdue Boilermakers men's basketball team beat Marquette at Mackey Arena.
12:37They made it look easy with a 79-59 final score.
