00:00I
00:08began oyster farming when I was 50. I kind of like simple things. I kind of like
00:14this lifestyle. So it was just a changing of who I am and finding value in what
00:22makes me happy, what ignites my passion and not what the world thinks about it.
00:27I played 16 seasons in Europe and Asia and then in 1997 I joined the New York
00:35Liberty in their first season. So I got my first contract. I think it was $38,000
00:40but I didn't care if it was zero dollars. I was gonna play in Madison Square
00:44Garden. When I started the WNBA my dream was that the league would exist. Now when
00:50I'm standing here almost 30 years later my dream is that the players that go
00:55through this are compensated in a way that gives them freedom to do what they
01:03want in life. It gives them the status that our culture assigns to money. That
01:10they are the best in the world.
