00:00So Mirren I just I just think I think they're a good match for Celtic because physically they're going to be able to cause some problems from set pieces and Steven Robinson's team never fail for lack of effort so that they're going to be in this game it's just whether or not they can you know deal with the occasion and put the nerves to one side and settle into and just you know create as because they've had two very close games against Celtic this season only lost last minute first game of the season at Celtic same against their own pack so this I think is going to be a
00:29fascinating game and I suppose it's like how are St Mirren going to handle it it's going to be fascinating and these two go ahead to head the handshakes Kasper Schmeichel his captain's already way past him and Warmey up almost on his own and Phillips is such a big player he's 88 for St Mirren and he will get ready let's have a look at the teams
00:54St Mirren return to winning ways against Dundee United a first win since the semi-final success here against Motherwell on the 1st of November
01:03Dan Lundulo and Keanu Backis come in Fraser Taylor and Mikael Mandron drop onto the bench and Mikael Mandron who scored in the semi-final what a player to have to be able to come off the bench should it be needed
01:17no Celtic manager has ever lost his first two games in charge until now a third defeat almost unthinkable for Wolfram Nancy Celtic were getting a painful
01:26lesson by Roma a couple of changes from that side Yang and Benjamin Negan have to settle for a place on the bench Celtic move back to back four with Anthony Raston
01:35and Kelechi Iheanaccio he's been out for a fair old while gets a chance to start up front for Celtic in the cup final today he was off the bench
01:44against Roma is that the worry that he's not quite match fit well yeah I'm sure that that will have crossed the manager's mind but I think it's a
01:52I think it's an inspired selection you know Iheanaccio's a big game player
01:56and I think that you get your best players your match winners in the team if he if he runs out of gas in the second half you make a substitution
02:03but I don't think that Johnny Kenny has done a whole lot wrong this season so he's a good player to have up their sleeve
02:08I just think when you look at Celtic's bench it's not as strong as it's been in the past but they have enough match winners in their team
02:14to to make it count and I think that it's fascinating to see whether or not St Mirren can serve it up to them
02:21and it's going to be interesting Kevin Clancy is our referee Marcus Fraser
02:26has won this trophy before Callum McGregor
02:29so too Marcus Fraser with Ross County
02:33and their match officials well it's big moments for them it's been seven years since
02:38Kevin Clancy was the man in the middle of a cup final
02:41he's assisted today by Callum Spence and Gordon Crawford
02:44David Dickinson is the fourth official
02:47very experienced Don Robertson is the VR chief
02:51and Matthew McDermott is his assistant
02:54so Stephen Robertson
02:55took Motherwell to a cup of the cup finals
02:58and got undone by Celtic
03:00it could be the same again today or it could be a measure of revenge
03:04I think this is a great opportunity for Stephen Robertson
03:08I mean Celtic don't tend to lose cup finals
03:12they just don't
03:13it's just in their DNA to get the job done
03:16but I think that Stephen Robertson I think is very savvy tactically
03:20and of course having played against him twice this season
03:23I mean if I'm in his dressing room I'm going to be reminding the players
03:26these lot nicked it off us not once but twice
03:29twice last minute
03:30you're going to let them do a third time
03:31you've got to find a way to be able to fire up the players
03:35almost get them angry
03:36I expect a very physical approach by St Mirren today
03:39Celtic I think they're going to try and keep the ball down
03:43and get it on the deck and move it fast
03:44and get runners from midfield
03:45and again we mentioned earlier
03:47let's not forget the 45 mile now wind inside Andon today
03:50underway at the start of the Premier Sports Cup final
03:55of 2025
03:58Celtic in the green and white hoops
04:00right to left
04:02similar than traditional black and white stripes
04:06the red numbers
04:08on the back
04:10and Shamal George
04:12is one of the coolest goalkeepers around
04:15that's things moving
04:17Scalic in his heels under a little bit of pressure
04:23Mugunga
04:24Richard King
04:29he scored possibly one of the worst semi-final goals you'll ever see
04:33but it barely crept over the line
04:36but boy did he enjoy the celebration
04:37back then on
04:39against Scales
04:40picked up by Phillips
04:43Lundula
04:45his man was offside in front of him
04:49and he's done well
04:50to win a corner
04:50good opportunity for him
04:53I think it was maybe Fraser on the overlap
04:55and there was an opportunity for Lundula just to play into him
04:59it was maybe
04:59there's just an opportunity for him to play him in
05:03but he actually decides
05:04he just dallies too long
05:05and at that point
05:06he's right not to play it to him
05:07because he would have been offside
05:08the first goal of the match
05:12kind of Bacchus who spoke really well
05:14before the game
05:16said these are the days that you're born for
05:19Bacchus plays it in the header
05:23and the opening goal
05:25it's the skipper
05:29Marcus Fraser
05:30who heads St Mirrenin to the lead
05:32inside 90 seconds
05:35what a stunning start
05:36for the Peasley Saints
05:38well we spoke beforehand Paul
05:41about set pieces
05:41and I said that this physicality
05:43from St Mirrenin
05:44was going to be a problem for Celtic
05:46no one seems to put people
05:47on the post anymore
05:48I'm a dinosaur
05:49I would have two
05:50and if you had a go on the post
05:53he's kicking that off the line
05:54but this is what teams do nowadays
05:56the delivery into a wonderful
05:58backers into an area
06:00and the mismatch
06:01this is what they would have been looking for
06:03look who they've got
06:03Fraser against Hattate
06:05Hattate can't handle the physicality
06:07they put it into an area
06:09and I guarantee you
06:10they're trying to get that matchup
06:11of the strong player
06:13against the weak link
06:14and the weak link for Celtic
06:15and they've got a few
06:16is Hattate
06:17no height
06:18no power
06:18and Fraser just out muscles him
06:20and it's a lovely guided header
06:22into the
06:23in of the far post
06:24what a start for St Mirrenin
06:25it's the 20th goal
06:28of this League Cup campaign
06:30Marcus Fraser
06:32has got the goal
06:34just a second of the season
06:36for him
06:36his first was a penalty kick
06:38and he will have loved
06:40the way he guided that
06:41into the corner
06:41I mean listen
06:43from a neutral perspective
06:44Paul
06:45this is
06:45exactly what we wanted
06:47an early goal
06:48from St Mirren
06:49because
06:50this now gives them
06:51something to protect
06:52but are they able
06:54to actually understand
06:55that you know
06:55the best form of defence
06:56is attack
06:57and to try and go
06:58for a second
06:59you know
06:59they're clearly going to
07:00have their tails up
07:01they're going to press high
07:02they're going to put Celtic
07:03under pressure
07:03Celtic are really going to
07:05have to show some metal now
07:06Trusty plays it forward
07:09that's just left
07:11for Jamal George
07:13well sometimes
07:16you dream about
07:17the perfect start
07:18in the Cup Final
07:18and I'll tell you what
07:19that is the perfect start
07:21I mean it's just
07:22you know
07:23everything is about
07:24the delivery
07:25and the fact that
07:26I promise you
07:27that is not
07:28by coincidence
07:29that they put it
07:30into that area
07:31they will have
07:32identified that
07:33and realised
07:34you know
07:34just to try and get
07:35those match-ups
07:35in the box
07:36Celtic coming forward
07:39through Hitati
07:40come back onto
07:42McGregor
07:43McGregor
07:44onto Kieran Tierney
07:45Tierney scored
07:47on this ground
07:48this season
07:49on a stunning
07:50lick
07:50for Scotland
07:52it was Engels
07:54back to Tierney
07:56Tierney scored last
07:58week against
07:58Hearts as well
07:59Tierney trying to get
08:02the cross
08:02blocked by Phillips
08:04McManaman
08:07fouled
08:08and that's ideally
08:11what they want to do
08:12just get your body
08:13in front of the ball
08:14you know get these
08:14little free kicks
08:15just make it stop
08:16start
08:17Celtic are going to try
08:18and put some speed
08:19into the game
08:19because obviously
08:20that's how they want
08:22to play regardless
08:23of what the score
08:23is about
08:24St Mirren now
08:25are going to try
08:25and take the sting
08:26out of it
08:26they're not really
08:27a team that works
08:28on possession
08:29too much
08:29but they're going
08:30to try and pop
08:31the ball around
08:31draw fouls
08:32and basically
08:33just try and make
08:34this into a stop
08:35start game
08:35because that's
08:36going to take
08:36the momentum
08:37away from Celtic
08:38trustee with a header
08:44away
08:44McManaman
08:46that's the shot
08:48away
08:48took a slight
08:49deflection
08:49but you could see
08:50another three players
08:51up in around
08:52that six yard box
08:53that's been given
08:54away
08:54Fertleton
08:55little jab
08:56on the inside
08:57looking for
08:57Bacchus
08:58McGregor
09:00Engels
09:02on to
09:04Hitati
09:04Celtic
09:07building
09:08trying to find
09:11a way
09:12through
09:12Gogic
09:13simply
09:15plays it
09:15away
09:16through
09:16for
09:17Cinecti
09:17on that
09:18occasion
09:18Ralston
09:33Schmeichel
09:39Schmeichel
09:40Ian Achill
09:47Tierney
09:51on to
09:52Maida
09:52trying to find
09:54Scales
09:54Scales
09:56catching
09:56McManaman
09:57three kicks
09:58to Mudden
09:59I mean it's
10:00really poor
10:00decision making
10:01by Scales
10:02there
10:02even though I
10:02don't think
10:03the layoff
10:03by Maida
10:04is into
10:04the right
10:05area
10:05you've got
10:06the defender
10:07facing his
10:07own goal
10:08what's he
10:08going to do
10:08either play
10:09it back
10:09to his
10:09goalie
10:10or knock
10:10it out
10:10for a
10:10throw-in
10:11Scales
10:11just can't
10:12help
10:12himself
10:12having
10:13a nibble
10:13and I'm
10:14talking about
10:15taking the
10:15momentum
10:16out of the
10:16game
10:16making it
10:17stop-start
10:17St Mirren
10:18are going
10:18to be
10:19I mean
10:19listen
10:20it's a long
10:20time to be
10:21like clock
10:21watching
10:22but they
10:22are going
10:22to be
10:23looking
10:23to try
10:23and get
10:24as many
10:25stoppages
10:25as they
10:25can
10:26and actually
10:26set themselves
10:27up to put
10:27it into
10:28areas where
10:28they can
10:28bring their
10:29physicality
10:30into it
10:30they're going
10:30to want
10:31to play
10:31balls in
10:32and around
10:32Celtics
10:33box
10:33and play
10:33for
10:34second
10:34balls
10:35Gallim
10:37McGregor
10:38who's on
10:39the losing
10:40end at
10:40Hamden
10:40in the
10:41Scottish
10:41Cup
10:41final
10:42against
10:42Aberdeen
10:42it's the
10:43first time
10:43he'd lost
10:44the Cup
10:44final
10:45here
10:4514-15
10:49is a
10:50pretty good
10:50record
10:50though
10:51there's
10:51Liam Scales
10:52many would
10:53love that
10:55here's
10:55Tierney
10:56McManaman
10:58holding him
10:58up
10:59Tierney
11:01with a
11:01turn
11:01that's a
11:02great ball
11:02across
11:03and
11:03actually
11:04might
11:04take that
11:05away
11:05from
11:06Hitati
11:06Tenekhati
11:09standing
11:10out on
11:10that
11:10right-hand
11:11side
11:11falls
11:13over
11:13and
11:15Declan
11:15John
11:16says
11:16okay
11:16we're
11:20going to
11:20see that
11:21today
11:21aren't we
11:21the little
11:21slips
11:22the falls
11:22they're just
11:23going to
11:23happen
11:23on this
11:23kind
11:24of
11:24day
11:24yeah
11:24I mean
11:25I think
11:25Tenekhati
11:25is right
11:26to try
11:26and back
11:26Declan
11:27John
11:27into
11:27his own
11:2818-yard
11:28box
11:28and at
11:29that
11:29point
11:29you're
11:29looking
11:29to
11:30try
11:30and
11:30draw
11:31him
11:31into
11:31a
11:31foul
11:31because
11:32obviously
11:32at that
11:32point
11:32you might
11:33end up
11:33getting
11:34a
11:34penalty
11:34but
11:35Celtic
11:35have
11:36you know
11:36what I've
11:37noticed
11:37about their
11:37performances
11:38is that
11:39they don't
11:40have the
11:41quality
11:41in the
11:41wide
11:42areas
11:42that
11:42we've
11:42seen
11:42in
11:43the
11:43past
11:43you know
11:44they're
11:44going to
11:44need
11:45something
11:45in terms
11:46attacking
11:47attacking
11:47threat
11:47from
11:47Tenekhati
11:48and
11:48Maida
11:48today
11:49Lundula
11:52Lundula
11:54kept that
11:54in
11:55but he's
11:55given
11:55away
11:55to
11:56Hitati
11:56Maida
11:57Fraser
11:59didn't
11:59go the
11:59first
12:00time
12:00but
12:00overplayed
12:02by
12:02Nathan
12:03Maida
12:03Stuart
12:06you mentioned
12:06in the
12:07build-up
12:07he was
12:07play of the
12:08year
12:08last year
12:09in Scotland
12:09but he's
12:10been a
12:10shadow
12:10of that
12:10so far
12:11this
12:12season
12:12he's
12:12been miles
12:13off
12:13it
12:13yeah
12:14I think
12:14it's
12:14the curse
12:15of the
12:15player of the
12:16year
12:16award
12:16you often
12:17find that
12:17the players
12:18who have
12:18a fantastic
12:19season
12:19don't
12:20necessarily
12:20I think
12:20about
12:21Shankland
12:21had a
12:22great
12:22season
12:22with
12:22Hart
12:22scored
12:23a
12:23barrel
12:23load
12:23of
12:23goals
12:23went
12:24missing
12:25for a
12:25year
12:25with
12:25Hart
12:25it
12:27happens
12:28a lot
12:29and I
12:29think
12:29the best
12:30players
12:30don't
12:31rest
12:32on their
12:32laurels
12:32Celtic
12:35need
12:36Maida
12:36at his
12:36best
12:36because
12:37he's
12:37a
12:38devastating
12:38forward
12:38but
12:41you're
12:41absolutely
12:41right
12:42his
12:42level
12:42has
12:43been
12:43absolutely
12:44way
12:45short
12:45of what
12:46he's
12:46capable
12:46and
12:47they're
12:47going
12:47to
12:47need
12:47him
12:47today
12:48scored
12:49in
12:49last
12:50season's
12:50Premier
12:52Sports
12:52Cup
12:52final
12:53against
12:53Rangers
12:53trying to
12:54get the
12:54opportunity
12:55there
12:55wasn't a
12:57bad ball
12:57forward
12:57and again
12:58Shimon
12:58George
12:59comes out
12:59and gathers
13:00a
13:01terrific
13:02pass
13:02you've
13:05got to
13:05try and
13:05keep
13:06the
13:06three
13:06centre
13:06backs
13:06for
13:07St
13:07Mirren
13:07honest
13:08and
13:08by
13:08that
13:08you've
13:09got
13:09to
13:09have
13:09that
13:09threat
13:09the
13:10balls
13:10down
13:10the
13:10side
13:11of
13:11them
13:11or
13:11in
13:11behind
13:11because
13:12that's
13:12going to
13:12force
13:12them
13:12to
13:12play
13:13deeper
13:13when
13:14they
13:14play

14:28It was absolutely on the money, it was a pearl of a cross.
14:31Just clipped in, fast stick, evaded the centre-back.
14:34Lovely timed header by Iheanacho, did everything right.
14:37But the goalie was up to it.
14:40Sebastian Ternetti, given away, Miguel Cueckleton.
14:47And the English one gets it away.
14:50Shoot for a free kick, but I think Austin Trustee will be fine.
14:58Rio Mitati.
15:01Ternetti, it's a great ball in.
15:04Goodwell has to go after it again.
15:06And Alex Gogic thumps the ball clear, scales, misjudged it.
15:11And Lundulo, Lundulo is away.
15:14He's got a younger, he's been offered the chance to go on the outside.
15:18That could be deadly.
15:20Well, Trustee got caught between going to the player and trying to cover.
15:24And that could have worked out worse for Celtic.
15:26Well, it could have done, but this was where it all started.
15:29A missed kick under no pressure from scales.
15:32And then he just gets out-muscled by Lundulo.
15:34He's lifted his head, so he's actually seeing if there's a pass on.
15:37It was very good defending by Trustee,
15:39because he actually wanted to show him onto his right foot.
15:41This was the cross and the header.
15:43Great contact.
15:44Terrific save.
15:45I mean, he's really got a lot on that.
15:48That is a very, very strong header.
15:50Powerful header by Iheanacho.
15:51Brilliant save by Shamal George.
15:53But we're in exactly the same position again, Paul.
15:56Same delivery, put it into the same area.
15:59And again, I wonder if Hitate's going to be marking Marcus Fraser again.
16:03It's busy in there.
16:05Bacchus plays it in.
16:06It will come back to him.
16:08Clip to the back post, could be trouble here for Celtic.
16:12Ralston got the touch.
16:14Battle turn of the turn.
16:18And then the flag goes up.
16:21Arnold Spence.
16:23Are you surprised they didn't put it in the same position?
16:26A little bit, yeah.
16:27Yeah, I think that the one thing that St Mirren have got to have is variety.
16:32So that mismatch has worked with Marcus Fraser against Hitate.
16:37They've now got to create another one.
16:39Because if you look at, I mean, I know that Scales is obviously a six footer.
16:44But they don't have a lot of power.
16:46You know, this is why they missed the likes of Alistair Johnson and Carter Vickers.
16:50You know, you're not going to get much change out of those two.
16:52But there's not a lot of physicality in this Celtic side.
16:55This is why St Mirrenour absolutely fancied themselves from set pieces.
16:59Because they have got not just height, but also physicality.
17:09That's a mistake by Ralston.
17:11Lundoulou trying to get onto his favoured left side.
17:16McGregor takes it away.
17:17And St Mirrenour's snapping away.
17:20Gorgic.
17:22Declan John trying to go in.
17:24And Ralston has to go to tough.
17:26Well, Lundoulou is being an absolute pest for St Mirrenour.
17:29I mean, he's doing his job and some.
17:31But a lot of the mistakes are self-inflicted from Celtic.
17:35You know, Scales just a few moments ago.
17:37Before that, just on that occasion, Ralston allowing himself to get the striker to get the wrong side of him.
17:44I mean, Celtic are, they're not helping themselves.
17:47here, by
17:54tiff...
17:56Here's the scoïżœïżœ.
17:57Ingles away!
18:02scrale in,
18:04To the goal scorer, Marcus Fraser.
18:06Marcus Fraser, the way through for McMenamin, with Gogic, on to Phillips, that's a decent ball across, Celtic scrambling somewhat.
18:21John, on the inside to Bacchus, back on to Declan, John, chance!
18:26Linduller, almost 2-0.
18:29Well, this is an absolute clinic by St Mirren, I mean, the ball in from Calvin Phillips, you said not a bad ball, it was that and some.
18:36Lovely little bit of movement there, look at the ball, it's a give and go, the pass back to him by Bacchus is perfect, they square it.
18:44Unfortunately for Linduller, he's just passed the near post, so he can't get enough on it, and I actually thought Trusty's, you know, defensive position was pretty solid.
18:51But before that, the ball in from Calvin Phillips, I mean, how there wasn't someone on the end of it, I do not know.
19:00It's an opportunity to play the ball across.
19:06Rolston.
19:20Linduller comes from a family of footballers, his dad was a pro, his brother also plays professionally.
19:26There's a chance for Rio Atati, Atati on the inside, no way through.
19:41It's been a really good opening, 15-4, St Mirren.
19:45It's been terrific, I mean, you cannot help but be impressed by St Mirren, I said that would they play the game rather than the occasion, they absolutely have.
19:53Samal George got a little touch on that, that was a terrific cross.
19:57And look at Iheanacho, he puts himself right in between the two centre-halves, he's inches away, it's a beautiful ball in.
20:16They can't quite get his jump timed enough to get a little shampoo on it at the near post.
20:21But I do think they're going to get some joy in those areas.
20:25I think it's going to come from players, actually, it's not so much the wingers, it's actually the supporting midfielders.
20:29Because it was Atati on that occasion, it was Scales before that.
20:32It doesn't always have to be the winger or the full-back that's going to put the ball in.
20:37It can be a supporting player.
20:39Celtic just need to make sure they get enough bodies in the box to take advantage.
20:42But, I mean, you know, St Mirren have started the game fantastically well, but you can't say that Celtic have been asleep.
20:48They've actually had, you know, a number of opportunities.
20:52They found an equaliser through Iheanacho.
20:57He's on the ball again.
20:58Ten games, he missed.
21:00Came off the bench against Roma.
21:03His angles.
21:04On to Scales.
21:05Submarin being stretched.
21:06Brilliant ball across.
21:09And as a minor, wasn't far away.
21:12Well, that was two of them got in the way, wasn't it?
21:14I mean, that was, I mean, the ball in again was absolutely perfect.
21:17They work it, and he can hit this first time, and the cross is money.
21:22I mean, it's absolutely on the money.
21:26Iheanacho can't get there.
21:27Yeah, I think, I have to say, I think Maeda should do better.
21:29I think that's a great opportunity.
21:31You must hit target from there.
21:35Well, it has been said that Liam Scales can weigh up a cross, and he's certainly been popping them in from that left-hand side.
21:43Scales has put in two amazing crosses.
21:45Absolutely brilliant crosses.
21:47Defensively, not great, but from an attacking perspective, he's given them two really, really good chances.
21:56Well, there's two men there missing.
21:57Alistair Johnson, Cameron Carter, Vickers.
21:59I mean, that's the best right-back in the country and the best centre-back in the country.
22:04And these players, you know, I mean, they make Celtic a different proposition, you know, defensively.
22:12I've mentioned Alistair Johnson giving them, you know, that attacking threat going forward.
22:16And, you know, we haven't had an update for a while.
22:19I don't think these guys are going to be back any time soon, and they are a huge miss.
22:22There's no question about that.
22:23I think this is the balance that Steam Robinson's side have got to get right.
22:51They cannot afford to sit back and try and protect, you know, trying to protect a 1-0 against Celtic.
22:59You're just going to invite pressure, and you're going to get tired.
23:02I think that they have to get the balance right, that when they get in the...
23:04I think they've done it very well.
23:06You know, when they get a chance to get their wing-backs forward,
23:09McMenamin and Declan John, they have to do it.
23:15There's the opportunity for Marcus Fieser.
23:17Marcus Fieser's goal marks the first time that St Mirren have scored the opening goal in the League Cup final.
23:24This is the fourth.
23:27Yeah, I think the manager will be absolutely delighted with the way that his team have started.
23:32And we shouldn't be surprised, you know, I mean, they played Celtic opening game in the season at Celtic Park,
23:37and, you know, Celtic had to grind to nick a one-win with a late goal from Macallan.
23:42And just three weeks ago, under Martin O'Neill, Celtic took the points,
23:46but again, 90th-minute pile-driver from MacGregor to get them out of jail.
23:51Here's Tierney.
23:58There's Callum MacGregor.
23:59The goal was something special. Goal of the month in Scotland.
24:04And Alex Gogic didn't even attack the ball because he knew that he'd fouled Ernie Engels.
24:09Engels has to shift the ball quicker there. I think this is the point.
24:12This is not a day for dribbling.
24:15Minder's in behind his man!
24:16Oh, dear, mate.
24:18And somehow Tunecti couldn't find a way through.
24:21Hitati coming in.
24:23This is the movement Maeda gives you.
24:25Again, Scales, look at this for a pass.
24:27Too fast for Fraser.
24:29Cut back into an area.
24:31That's just your luck.
24:32I mean, that is just your luck.
24:33I think Maeda does everything right.
24:36And that ball...
24:38I mean, I'm trying to see, is it...
24:40It's Hitati there, but I was thinking if that's gone through,
24:42it's going through to Tunecti,
24:44who would have simply smashed it into the back of the net.
24:46They got lucky there some, haven't they?
24:48Yeah, I was trying to work out which player it was
24:50whose legs...
24:52He kind of got his legs stuck,
24:53but it just rolled back kindly for the goalkeeper.
24:56And it's just...
24:57Sometime your luck is in.
25:00Farnaccio held up.
25:02Maeda taken out.
25:04And that could be the first card it is.
25:08Well, Callum McGregor, I think, was looking for a little more,
25:10but Marcus Fraser just caught the wrong side.
25:13And the initial call of the yellow card.
25:17There was the touch away.
25:19Yeah, I mean, that's...
25:20It's cynical.
25:23But there was cover.
25:25Oh, yeah.
25:25I...
25:25Well, 100%.
25:27I think the question is, is...
25:28You know, I don't know whether Callum McGregor was asking
25:30if that's dangerous.
25:31I mean, it was cynical.
25:33But it's low.
25:34I mean, that's not going to get you...
25:35That's reckless.
25:36It's not going to get you anything more than a yellow card.
25:38It's a correct decision from the referee.
25:40But again, you know, that's...
25:42That's Maeda's power on pace just causing a problem for St Mirren.
25:49Well, the cup final so far.
25:50The goal from Marcus Fraser.
25:52First man in the book.
25:53Marcus Fraser.
25:56Tierney hooks it up.
25:57Won't fall for Celtic initially, but it will the second time.
26:02McGregor.
26:03On to Tierney.
26:04Tierney, that's a teasing ball!
26:07And there is the equaliser from Rhea Hattati.
26:10Brilliant finish across the goalkeeper.
26:12It's 1-1 in the Premier Sports Cup final.
26:16Well, you called it a brilliant finish, Paul,
26:18and that is...
26:19You couldn't have summed it up any better.
26:20I mean, he's full stretch.
26:22With a cross with real pace and power on it.
26:25But Hattati, I mean, he will have huge relief
26:31because he was the guy that lost his man.
26:33Sneaks around the back.
26:35Full stretch.
26:35But what about the control?
26:37I mean, he's actually got to use, you know,
26:40the point of his foot just to get enough on it.
26:42I think it's a magnificent finish.
26:43It really is.
26:44I mean, loads of pace on the cross.
26:47That's a great angle for us.
26:48Just guides it into the far post.
26:50Tierney putting it into an area.
26:52Take the defenders out of the equation.
26:54Knock it around the back.
26:55But on the slide, I mean, it's just a thing of beauty.
27:00Wonderful finish from Hattati.
27:01And he'll be feeling a lot better about himself
27:02because you do have that element of guilt
27:05when you've conceded a goal and you've lost your guy.
27:08I mean, you know, it's hard.
27:10But this is elite football.
27:12The finger of blame goes squarely on Hattati for St Mirren's goal.
27:15But now he's got his team back in the game.
27:17He'll be feeling very good about himself.
27:19I think the goal was coming to be fair.
27:21I think Celtic have, you know, had some good moments.
27:24And I definitely think this back four suits them better
27:27because it gives them a chance to create overlaps.
27:29So if I lost the opening goal in the final last season
27:33and then I'm by Ramy of Rangers and came through to win.
27:39Lost the opening goal here.
27:40Back on level terms.
27:4321 minutes later,
27:44Hattati scoring for the second time in this competition.
27:49Here is McGregor.
27:51McGregor on the inside.
27:53In that show.
27:55Comes back on to Callum McGregor.
27:58Good initial block McGregor again.
28:00And the goalkeeper has to make the save.
28:09Well, St Mirren's getting a little bit more nervous now.
28:12Ginectic sent it across.
28:15Saks come off George.
28:17Freckleton and George turns the ball behind.
28:22Well, Freckleton had one very lucky deflection.
28:26Ricocheted us a few moments ago
28:28when Maeda cut it in from the left-hand side.
28:30This time he sticks a leg out.
28:31The St Mirren fans seem to be having a whinge
28:33about the fact that Celtic didn't knock it out of play.
28:36I'm not for that at all.
28:38I think we've got to a stage now where, you know,
28:40we've forgotten the fact that referees are only most supposed to stop.
28:43I mean, are they saying this was a foul?
28:45I mean, it isn't, is it?
28:46It absolutely isn't.
28:47So, so Phillips, unfortunately, has picked up an injury,
28:50which happens.
28:51Celtic have won the ball back,
28:53and the St Mirren fans are booing to say
28:55you should be knocking it out of play.
28:56Nonsense.
28:57I'm sorry.
28:58Utter nonsense.
28:58We have to get away from this unwritten rule in football
29:03that when a player is injured we've got to kick the ball out.
29:05We don't.
29:05The referee is there to stop the game for head injuries,
29:08which is absolutely correct.
29:10And then, you know what?
29:11When guys go down injured, Paul, it's part of the game.
29:13It's part of the game.
29:14We have to accept the fact that when someone goes down injured,
29:17Maeda didn't foul him.
29:18Why would Celtic have to kick the ball out to allow them back in?
29:21They shouldn't.
29:22And I would be saying exactly the same thing the other way around.
29:24We've got to stop this nonsense about booing
29:27when a player is down injured
29:28and expecting the team in possession to kick the ball out.
29:31I want to see the ball in play.
29:32We nearly got a goal there.
29:34Why should we have to kick the ball out for no good reason?
29:38This was actually the play by Tenexte who got into an area.
29:42It's actually good defending, isn't it?
29:45Freckleton just sticks a leg out between him and George,
29:49but I think it's really impressive the way that Celtic
29:52have taken that real punch to the solar plexus
29:54in the early part of the game,
29:56and they've come back strongly.
30:00Well, Killian Phillips, one too impressed with referee Kevin Clancy,
30:03but for all the reasons that Stuart Lovell alongside me outline
30:06called that one right.
30:10It won't be a sore one,
30:11but he'll get himself back on as quickly as he can.
30:13Celtic will have a corner.
30:15Leo Itati equaliser, Celtic's 12th goal in this competition,
30:21the 12th different goalscorer in the competition.
30:25Engel shot.
30:28Submitting down a man.
30:30Tenexte.
30:32And when Alex Gogic slots in,
30:35Itati with a shot, Freckleton again.
30:37It's to go across and make the sliding challenge.
30:43It's not been successful.
30:44And Alex Gogic has to get it away.
30:48They're really asking the question now, aren't they, Celtic?
30:50This is like waves of attack.
30:51You know, they've got the bit between their teeth.
30:53I think that equaliser has really given them a sense of purpose.
30:56And they're actually understanding where St Mirren are vulnerable.
31:00You know, it's down the sides.
31:01I mean, they are getting acres of room down the sides.
31:04And they're getting loads of runners
31:05because St Mirren are not a threat on the counter-attack.
31:08There's the long ball forwards, Maida.
31:11Into the arms of Shemal George.
31:14I'll tell you what, it's been a big cup, haven't you?
31:16Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
31:17I mean, I really wanted St Mirren to settle into the game quickly
31:20and they couldn't have done any more.
31:22They would have been fantastic.
31:24And you were looking at Celtic who were, you know, rocking a bit.
31:28But Celtic have carried a threat, you know, from early in the match
31:32and through a combination of great goalkeeping, good defending,
31:36but they just couldn't handle the ball in from Tierney and the great finish.
31:41And this game is in the balance.
31:43I mean, it's been terrific.
31:46Anthony Ralston, none too impressed.
31:47And that has been headed out behind by him.
31:50Anthony Ralston getting the start today, came off the bench
31:53in the cup final last season.
31:57He did start the semi-final against Rangers in that 3-1 victory.
32:10That's another set play.
32:11Yeah, that choke, gets it away.
32:18Genecte gets the first touch, McGregor.
32:20John tries to battle for it.
32:22They'll back us, John's sliding in.
32:25Mitati didn't flinch.
32:26Backleter.
32:30And once it's played, it's just a little bit strong for him.
32:34Good communication.
32:36What we talked about at the start was the wind can have an effect
32:39and sometimes you might just overhit that pass.
32:41I think that's the point.
32:43This is why I'm impressed with both teams, you know, in terms of playing the conditions.
32:46You can't feel this if you're not actually experiencing it.
32:50This wind is savage.
32:51It's absolutely savage.
32:53But we shouldn't be surprised that Celtic are looking to play.
32:56But I think Samirin have adapted really well.
32:57They're not smashing ball.
32:58They do like to play direct.
33:00But they've actually adapted to the conditions really well.
33:03Here's Tierney.
33:04Fraser Tierney does get the ball away.
33:07Gogic.
33:11Okay, off scales.
33:12It'll be a throw in to Samirin.
33:15I think the worry, though, for Wilfred Nonsi is that
33:18even though they haven't had that many attacks,
33:22the two strikers for Samirin,
33:25they look to have the measure of the two centre-backs for Celtic
33:29in terms of physicality.
33:30You know, you look at Lundoulou, who's been a menace,
33:34and Iunga.
33:35I think they've got the power and the legs to run the two centre-halves.
33:39If Samirin can get them isolated 1v1,
33:42they can definitely get some joy from that.
33:48Alex Gogic finding himself in the opposition box.
33:56Backers.
33:57Need a little bit of space.
34:00Here's Philips, who looks okay again.
34:11Freckleton long.
34:13Ralston closed down quickly by Juno Iunga.
34:16I think to the surprise of no one,
34:24Celtic went back to the back four,
34:25and boy, they look so much better.
34:27Yeah, yeah.
34:29You know, you can't dig out a manager
34:31when you've never even seen what his ideas are,
34:33and all that, you know, kind of nonsense
34:36about the little kind of magnet board.
34:38It didn't bother me one bit.
34:39You've got to get your message across, however that is.
34:42The thing that I was far more surprised with
34:45was the switch.
34:47When particularly Martin O'Neill came in
34:49and said, right, this is how we're going to play.
34:51Set our stall out.
34:53You know, relatively straightforward.
34:55And going back to basics to a large degree.
34:58And they'd had a lot of success
34:59and they'd built up some momentum.
35:02And then he switched to a back three,
35:03which made no sense to me whatsoever.
35:06Particularly given that you had
35:07two really difficult opponents back-to-back
35:09in Hearts and Roma.
35:10I didn't understand that at all.
35:12I thought it was a risky strategy.
35:14And it backfired.
35:16Something could come the ball away.
35:19And Menemann likes the challenge of Maitre.
35:21Oh, what a fascinating contest so far.
35:31It might be ninth against second
35:34in terms of the Scottish Premiership.
35:37But it is so tight here so far.
35:41Backus.
35:43Wasn't fouled.
35:47To Vectie.
35:48Fickelton falls to the floor.
35:52Iheanacho.
35:54Oh, they've made the run.
35:56You could see two players.
35:57I think it was Engels.
35:59Was definitely one.
36:00But they had two players on the switch.
36:03I mean, Ralston did fantastically well
36:05just to burst forward.
36:07Outmuscle the opposition player.
36:09And then play a lovely little ball into the space.
36:12Iheanacho, I think,
36:12was just too keen to play the ball forward.
36:15It wasn't on.
36:15That's a mistake by Troste.
36:18Iheanacho.
36:19Ludulu up in support.
36:21It's played back to Phillips.
36:22Tried to find McMenamin.
36:24Tierney will have to play it.
36:27Calmly done by the Scotland International.
36:31That deflects into the bath.
36:33Iheanacho.
36:36Fickelton brings his run to a halt.
36:38Iheanacho's done.
36:39He's pulled his hamstring.
36:40Yeah, that didn't look good.
36:45You could see he just looked uncomfortable
36:47with the challenge from Fickelton.
36:49But it actually wasn't that.
36:50It was...
36:50You could see he just, you know,
36:52immediately went to hold the back of his leg.
36:54And I imagine that they've got him back for this game.
36:58You can just see him kind of pull up there
37:00straight away.
37:01If you're kicking the ball out
37:04when you're in possession,
37:06that's not a little tug.
37:08I think this will be a substitution.
37:10I think if you've played sport,
37:14it doesn't matter what sport,
37:15if you've played at whatever level,
37:18it's only happened to me once,
37:19but when the hamstring goes,
37:20you know it's gone.
37:21Yeah.
37:22And you know there's nothing you can do.
37:24I've had a grade three,
37:25which is like being shot,
37:27you know, in running,
37:28and it's absolute agony.
37:30And I'm not sure whether it was Hammy
37:33that was keeping Iheanacho out.
37:35I don't know if that was the injury that it was.
37:36If it was, I mean, I wouldn't be chancing it.
37:39I would just, you know,
37:39he's too an important player.
37:40He's actually been playing very well,
37:42to be fair.
37:43But they've got an able deputy in Kenny,
37:48you know, who's offered them a threat.
37:53I would be inclined to be making that substitution
37:55straight away.
37:56Yeah, they're not going to hang about.
37:58Celtic don't know if Callum Osmond
37:59who scored in the semi-final against Rangers.
38:02Came off the bench for his first Celtic goal
38:05with Johnny Kenny.
38:07Off the bench for the seventh time this season.
38:09five goals in 13.
38:13Scored in the semi-final
38:14and now gets a chance to make a name for himself
38:17in the final today.
38:19As you say, I mean, you know,
38:21one man suffers,
38:22but it's an opportunity for another.
38:23And, you know,
38:25Johnny Kenny,
38:26whilst he wouldn't want to see
38:27one of his teammates injured,
38:29this is a chance for him to step up.
38:31And he's done it here in the past.
38:32And you're going to feel for
38:34Galicia Iheanacho,
38:36his first cup final with Celtic ends
38:40with injury.
38:44And it's the break of the ball.
38:47Yeah, I think that Iheanacho gave them good balance
38:51and he does hold the ball in very well,
38:54makes good runs down the sides,
38:55but his link-up play was perfect
38:57for the likes of Maida and
38:59Cinecti running off him.
39:01Kenny brings a different threat.
39:03I mean, he likes to run in behind more.
39:06I wouldn't say his link-up play
39:07is his strength by any means.
39:08He doesn't have the same physicality
39:10as Iheanacho, certainly.
39:17Clear free kick.
39:20Kevin Clancy just goes about his business
39:22in an unfussy manner.
39:24The referee tries to let things flow,
39:26but things like that just stamp on.
39:28Well, we haven't really
39:29spoken about the ref.
39:31We haven't really noticed him,
39:32which to me is a good sign.
39:33I mean, I think this game
39:36hasn't really had a lull,
39:37you know, it's been
39:39peddled to the metal from the start
39:41and long may that continue.
39:58McGregor.
39:59On to Scales.
40:01No cross that time.
40:02Just a little nudge around the corner.
40:06And Richard King
40:06has just taken a sore one look.
40:09Completely accidental.
40:12But it doesn't reduce the pain any.
40:14Let's have a little look back.
40:17Comes across.
40:20I mean, he catches him,
40:21but I mean, that's,
40:22you know, he's trying to evade the challenge,
40:24so there's absolutely nothing in that
40:25that's deliberate.
40:26I think it's,
40:28is it,
40:28is it,
40:29is it,
40:29is it,
40:29is it,
40:29is it,
40:30is it King?
40:30Is it King,
40:31is it?
40:31Yeah.
40:34That's the throw.
40:37Set another corner on the way.
40:39They just need a,
40:44they just need a period of possession.
40:46They've not,
40:47they've not really had a,
40:48any respite.
40:50They've also got their noses in front.
40:51They had a very good five or ten minutes
40:53after the goal,
40:53St. Mirren.
40:54but since then
40:55they've been put under the cosh
40:56and the thing is
40:57this,
40:59you know,
40:59the kind of having to retain your shape
41:01and switching,
41:03you know,
41:03players from side to side
41:04to track runners and whatnot,
41:06it's gonna,
41:07it's going to
41:08make them pay eventually
41:10from a physical point of view.
41:16Good chasing down work by
41:17so Mullen forcing Celtic back
41:19to next take.
41:21Good chasing.
41:27Smyker to scales.
41:29McMenamin
41:29almost taking it off him.
41:33Brilliant pressing by McMenamin,
41:35he was on him fast.
41:36I mean,
41:36you kind of saw the ball
41:37coming to scales
41:38thinking is he going to have time
41:39to take a touch?
41:40Couldn't even bring it down
41:41and McMenamin was on him.
41:45Some of the team
41:46will not give you
41:47an awful lot of space.
41:51Anthony Ralfston
41:54four League Cup
41:56final successes
41:57to his name.
42:00And to Liam Scales.
42:04Tierney.
42:09That's Mida.
42:13That's Mida
42:14does like to feast
42:15on St Mullen's
42:16seven goals
42:16and 11 appearances.
42:22Go!
42:23Go!
42:23Go!
42:24McGregor.
42:29And here's
42:30Steven Robinson
42:31down on the touchline.
42:32this is where I feel
42:35like having two
42:36left-sided
42:37centre-halves
42:38has a problem
42:38for you Paul
42:39because
42:39you'll notice
42:40their natural reaction
42:41is to take it open out
42:42and play down the left.
42:43Take it open out
42:44and play down the left.
42:45They're hardly going down
42:46the right-hand side at all.
42:48People will think
42:48that's a coincidence.
42:49It's not.
42:50It's because you don't have
42:51a righty
42:52whose first thought
42:53is to do the same
42:54on the opposite side
42:54just to take a touch
42:55and open out.
42:57So all the threat
42:58is coming down.
42:59Celtic's left,
43:00St Mirren's right.
43:01But the reason
43:03we haven't seen
43:03much of Rausen
43:04and Tunechti
43:04is to the two
43:05left centre-halves
43:06when they've got the ball
43:07are not actually
43:08seeing that their space
43:09they can just hit
43:10the switch almost blind.
43:12It's very unusual
43:13to have two left-footed
43:14centre-halves
43:15on the modern day.
43:15It is.
43:16It is.
43:17And the other night
43:18three left-sided centre-halves.
43:21The Dutch have been big
43:22on this
43:22having a righty
43:23on the right
43:24and a lefty
43:24on the left
43:25and some people
43:25say it doesn't matter.
43:26I would agree
43:27with the Dutch
43:27I'd much prefer
43:28to have the right
43:30and left
43:30for the balance.
43:31Iunger
43:32battling for it
43:34not furled
43:35and the ball
43:36will do the play.
43:39I mean,
43:39what about
43:39Maeda's effort there?
43:41You know,
43:41goes flying into the tackle
43:43with one
43:43flying into the tackle
43:44with the second.
43:45He loves the physicality.
43:48It's the
43:49high five
43:50from his
43:51manager.
43:52Boston.
44:01Celtic have had the
44:02upper hand since
44:03the equalising goal
44:04from
44:04Ria Tati
44:05after 23 minutes.
44:07Kaleem Phillips.
44:22Kaleem Phillips.
44:24Lidin Dulu
44:24trying to get
44:25involved with Celtic.
44:27Calmly done.
44:28I'm really surprised
44:47at how negative
44:48Engels has been
44:49when he gets
44:49the ball.
44:50He's facing
44:51his own man
44:51almost all the time
44:52not taking it
44:52on the half turn
44:53and every time
44:54he's getting the
44:55ball he's playing
44:55backwards.
44:56McGregor's first
44:57thought when he
44:57gets it is to try
44:58and look forward
44:58and play through
44:59the lines.
45:00Engels is receiving
45:00the ball
45:01and almost every
45:02time he gets
45:03it he's playing
45:03backwards.
45:04He's got to be
45:05braver on the
45:05ball and make
45:06some passes
45:07that are going
45:07to break
45:07through the
45:08lines.
45:08It can't just
45:08come from
45:09McGregor all
45:09the time.
45:13Tati
45:13on to McGregor.
45:15Last time
45:24Kasper
45:24Spanker
45:24was that
45:25far from
45:25his goal
45:26Kenny
45:26McLean
45:26lobbed him.
45:30We could
45:30do with
45:31none of
45:31those goals
45:31today
45:32couldn't
45:32we?
45:32Stunning
45:33moment
45:33Scotland
45:34defeating
45:34Denmark
45:35to qualify
45:35for the
45:37World Cup.

45:39as they
45:39come

45:57He's on
45:57angles.
46:06Tierney

46:20scales.
46:22He's on
46:23the
46:23ball.
46:28Tierney
46:29couldn't
46:29take it
46:29in stride
46:30but we'll
46:30keep it
46:30in.
46:33Back
46:34on to
46:34scales.
46:36Engels

46:46I think
46:46this is
46:46the
46:46difficulty
46:47Paul
46:47when you

46:52difficult

46:53I'm
46:53sure
46:53the

46:54would
