Nolan Gould on Modern Family ending, his friendship with Ariel Winter, and more.
Transcript
00:00If I could choose one person to guest star in Modern Family, I mean, this is so unrelated
00:05because he's not in anything in the entertainment world, but I just met Alex Honnold yesterday
00:11from Free Solo.
00:12I don't know how we'd fit into the storyline.
00:14Maybe Luke and Phil go rock climbing and get stuck somewhere, and Alex Honnold just comes
00:18and saves them.
00:19Hey, I'm Nolan Gould from Modern Family, and I'm here at Hollywood Life.
00:23The first person I met from the Modern Family cast, I think it was my TV parents, Julie
00:27Bowen and Ty Burrell, I remember meeting them at the table read, it was our first ever
00:33table read, the first time the cast all got together, and I remember being super nervous
00:37because I was 10 years old and I was surrounded by all these veteran actors.
00:40I remember calling them Mr. Burrell and Mrs. Bowen, and they were immediately like, that's
00:45not going to happen.
00:46Like, it's Ty and Julie, you know, we're peers, we're all in this together, we're castmates
00:51and coworkers.
00:53Bonding with my on-screen siblings has been awesome, I mean, we've really grown up together
00:59for like the past 10, going on 11 years now.
01:02I never went to real school, and you know, I had friends, but for the most part like my,
01:08you know, my life from a young age was focused on work, so it was really cool to have, like,
01:13you know, people that became like family that I got to grow up with and, you know, experience
01:16the same things.
01:17Like, we're going to be bonded for life, we're all, you know, we're going to be best friends
01:21after the show.
01:22I definitely keep in touch with Arielle the most.
01:25We moved like into the same neighborhood and stuff, and she's like three minutes away from
01:29me, so it's like when I go home from work, I just like see Arielle out of like walks and
01:35stuff.
01:36All of our cast members are, I mean, just hilarious.
01:39It's impossible to like keep a straight face while we're filming.
01:42I would have to say the funniest is my TV dad, Ty Burrell.
01:46If you go back and like look through the episodes, sometimes you'll see me like kind of like
01:49looking at Ty, but like not making eye contact, and it's because I know if I look at him while
01:53he's being funny, I'm going to break.
01:55I would definitely say that Ed O'Neill is most like his character out of anyone on the
02:00show.
02:01I mean, he has been getting paid for the last 10 years to play himself, which is just like
02:06every actor's dream.
02:07He is Jay.
02:08He's like everybody's, everybody's grandpa.
02:12When I learned that season 11 was going to be the final season, it was a bittersweet
02:16moment because we actually were expecting season 10 to be our series finale, and our season
02:2210 finale was supposed to be our show's ending because it's really, it is written like that.
02:26It comes full circle where, you know, the Lion King moment happens that they walk out holding
02:32the babies up.
02:33That's how our show was supposed to end, and then they, you know, suddenly add another season.
02:37We weren't expecting that at all, and we were really blown away.
02:41So it's sad to know like, okay, that is the definitive end, but I'm super happy to, you
02:45know, get one more season to spend with the people I love.
02:47If we ever do like a spinoff show where it's like 10 years later, maybe we're going to
02:52do like a flash forward to end our show, we might, we might see like Luke has moved into
02:57the basement.
02:58Or like, I don't know, Luke is working as like a refrigerator, like repairman or something
03:02like that.
03:03I hope that he does better.
03:04But it's kind of hard to think about doing a revival for Modern Family when our show hasn't
03:09ended yet.
03:10But you know, it's really possible we're seeing so many shows get rebooted and stuff.
03:14I would definitely think about being part of it.
03:17My hopes for Luke, um, for the final season.
03:20I don't know.
03:21I would like to, I'd like to see Luke, uh, kind of, kind of hold it down and maybe become
03:28like a better person.
03:29He's been, uh, he's been a little trashy ever since he became a teenage boy.
03:35And, uh, like, I don't know.
03:37I would, I would like to see him, uh, maybe grow up, leave that stuff high and get like
03:40a real job, maybe, uh, hold down a relationship, uh, not be such a creep.
