00:04:12In the outer world, I am known as Polk Runyon.
00:04:15But here, in the inner world of the Rivendell Hermitage, I'm the Archimage Frater Thabion,
00:04:23your host and guide on a tour of the wonderful world of hermetic magic.
00:04:31Hermetic magic is an art, a philosophy, and a very ancient and powerful religion.
00:04:37Yes, a religion, but with an essential difference from other religions,
00:04:43where they depend upon faith for their salvation.
00:04:48We seek the wisdom and power of the Gnosis.
00:04:52Know yourself, for in your temple, you are one with the gods.
00:04:59In our two previous videos, The Magic of Solomon and The Dark Mirror of Magic,
00:05:04we emphasized the techniques of evocation and invocation.
00:05:11That's summoning spirits to visible appearance,
00:05:14and calling down angels to converse with them.
00:05:18Now, in some ways, this is putting the cart before the horse,
00:05:21because there's a lot more to the philosophy and practice of magic than these two methods.
00:05:29In this production, we're going to give you a broader perspective.
00:05:32We'll cover hermetic magical yoga, path workings, seasonal ceremonies,
00:05:40the mystical Eucharist, and the Enochian Aether system.
00:05:55Let us begin by establishing the magical universe within ourselves.
00:06:02Through the process of hermetic magical yoga.
00:06:08When I first began my study of magic back in 1968,
00:06:12I was impressed with the Tibetan system of tantric yoga,
00:06:17as described in the series of books edited by W. Evans Wentz.
00:06:22I soon realized that the modern European magus Franz Barden and the British magician Alistair Crowley
00:06:31had both incorporated Eastern yoga techniques into Western magic,
00:06:36but they had both stopped short of adapting the most important Eastern yoga system to Western practice,
00:06:44that of the straight line spinal chakra system.
00:06:48Neither Barden nor Crowley could overcome the differences between this Indian tantric configuration
00:06:56and the three-pillared Western tree of life,
00:07:00even though the ancient caduceus of Hermes was a major clue,
00:07:04along with the Renaissance hermetic mystic Johann Gitchell's drawing
00:07:08of a Western hermetic chakra arrangement back in 1696,
00:07:13and the lightning flash or flaming sword on the tree of life itself is also an obvious clue.
00:07:21But we still should not fault Barden and Crowley overmuch for failing to realize and develop this vital secret,
00:07:30because in the latter half of the 20th century, after Barden and Crowley had both died,
00:07:37Tibetan exiles began to teach selected Western students the inner secrets of their magic.
00:07:45Now those of us who were fortunate enough to sit at the feet of Tibetan gurus
00:07:49and learned their tantras firsthand soon discovered
00:07:53that there were different chakra systems for each deity we invoked.
00:07:59The previous notion that all Eastern chakra arrangements were the same
00:08:03and had been that way for thousands of years was just simply not true.
00:08:09Along with this revelation, it is equally important to note
00:08:13that magical color is what we actively impose upon the inner planes,
00:08:20not what we passively observe when we scry.
00:08:24Therefore, our chakras can conform to our own Kabbalistic color scales.
00:08:31In our case, my year of study and practice with the Sakya Order of Tibetan Tantric Buddhism,
00:08:38under the tutelage of the late Luding Ken Rinpoche,
00:08:42confirmed for me the validity of this Western Kabbalistic chakra system
00:08:49we had first developed in 1975 and published back in 1977.
00:08:56We have since gone on to perfect a master ritual
00:09:01in which all our ancient pantheon of Phoenician gods
00:09:05indwell in the Kabbalistic spheres within the body of the Magician.
00:09:12Within the mystic rose and fire opal jewel of Haud,
00:09:17we enter the alchemical laboratory of Kothar,
00:09:23the ancient Phoenician predecessor of Tubal-Cain.
00:09:27Within the mystic rose and emerald jewel of Netzach,
00:09:34we come into the presence of the goddess Astarte,
00:09:38adorned with all the jewels of the Hermetic cosmos.
00:09:44I cannot overemphasize the importance of this development.
00:09:48This Kabbalistic chakra arrangement
00:09:50is certainly a significant advance in Western magic.
00:09:54It goes far beyond the Golden Dawn's middle pillar exercise,
00:10:00providing inner wellsprings of power
00:10:02for every magical operation,
00:10:05for the creation of the body of light,
00:10:08and for the ultimate mystical experience
00:10:11of merger with the Godhead.
00:10:14At present, we are the only esoteric group
00:10:18in the Western world
00:10:19employing and teaching this system.
00:10:23Ahiyya Yamashamata
00:10:37There are other ways of entering
00:10:55this hidden magical universe.
00:10:58Following the Hermetic principle of
00:11:00as above, so below,
00:11:02as within, so without,
00:11:04we have again combined the best
00:11:07of Western and Eastern methods
00:11:10in our pathworking system.
00:11:13Some people might call this technique
00:11:14astral travel.
00:11:17We prefer the term inner plane projection.
00:11:21In 1971,
00:11:22our late Frater Apollonius,
00:11:24known in the outer world as John Brooks,
00:11:26a former student of Sikhsat Guru Karpal Singh,
00:11:31conducted us on a hypnotic journey
00:11:33into a magical realm
00:11:34of surpassing wonders
00:11:36and deep wisdom.
00:11:38The key element of this pathworking system
00:11:41is its symbolic attention points,
00:11:45guideposts along the way
00:11:46from which the traveler
00:11:48receives special knowledge
00:11:50for himself or herself alone.
00:11:54This transforms what might otherwise be
00:11:57only a deep trance reverie
00:12:00into a true initiation.
00:12:04We cabalized,
00:12:05Karpal Singh's Eastern cosmos,
00:12:08and we added the Golden Dawn's
00:12:10own Eastern import,
00:12:12the elemental tatwa symbols,
00:12:14as doorways
00:12:16in the center

00:12:26on our journey
00:12:27to the sphere of Yesod,
00:12:29the storehouse of memories

00:12:35The mirror is suspended
00:12:37in space and time.
00:12:40From within our temple,
00:12:41it opens out
00:12:42upon the vast darkness
00:12:45of the universe.
00:12:47It is a portal
00:12:47between dimensions,
00:12:50the gateway
00:12:50to realms beyond.
00:12:53Temple pathworkings
00:12:54are usually done
00:12:55inside the magic circle,
00:12:57with the participants
00:12:59lying in a ground star configuration
00:13:02on their backs,
00:13:03heads together,
00:13:05looking up
00:13:05into a suspended,
00:13:08circular,
00:13:08convex, dark mirror.
00:13:10The appropriate tatwa symbol,
00:13:13in this case,
00:13:14parviti,
00:13:15representing the earth element,
00:13:17is placed in the center
00:13:18of the great mirror.
00:13:19The mirror,
00:13:20suspended waist high,
00:13:22also serves
00:13:23as an altar top,
00:13:24on which will be placed
00:13:26the symbols
00:13:27relating to the path
00:13:29and the sphere
00:13:30of the working.
00:13:31After a hypnotic induction,
00:13:33which renders
00:13:34the physical body inert,
00:13:35the living spirit body
00:13:38is released
00:13:39from the dormant
00:13:40physical form
00:13:41and flies up
00:13:43through the tatwa,
00:13:44which serves
00:13:45as an astral doorway
00:13:47leading to the inner realms
00:13:49of the olam yetzerah.
00:13:51On the highest point
00:14:07of the ridgeline,
00:14:09silhouetted against
00:14:10the glow of the Milky Way,
00:14:12we see the great
00:14:15T-shaped stone dolmen.
00:14:17It stands stark black
00:14:19against the heavenly river of souls.
00:14:22We climb the trail
00:14:24along the ridge crest.
00:14:26It becomes steeper
00:14:27and more precarious
00:14:29as we make our way upward.
00:14:32Finally,
00:14:32we reach the top
00:14:34and we stand
00:14:35at the base of the dolmen.
00:14:37A cool sea breeze
00:14:38touches our faces.
00:14:40We look down
00:14:41to a desolate shore
00:14:43and out over
00:14:44a vast nighted seascape.
00:14:47This is the Gulf of Nepesh.
00:14:49that ever-dark sea
00:14:51of forgotten dreams
00:14:53and ancient remembrance.
00:14:55The moon is hiding
00:14:56behind a veil of cloud
00:14:58shrouding the sea
00:15:00of mystery and darkness.
00:15:02We examine
00:15:02the ancient stone dolmen.
00:15:04It is 12 feet high
00:15:06and roughly chiseled
00:15:07from coarse black stone.
00:15:09The six-foot-long cross member
00:15:11on the top
00:15:12forms the T.
00:15:13There are forged
00:15:15bronze rings
00:15:16set near the ends
00:15:18of the cross.
00:15:19On the upright member
00:15:20there are hand
00:15:21and toe holds
00:15:22and a ledge
00:15:23to stand on.
00:15:25We realize
00:15:25that this dolmen
00:15:27must have been used
00:15:28by shamans of old
00:15:30in a vision quest
00:15:31rite of self-crucifixion
00:15:33and that we are now here
00:15:36for that purpose ourselves.
00:15:38Each of us,
00:15:39in turn,
00:15:40will climb up
00:15:41upon this great
00:15:42Tao cross.
00:15:43Now it's your turn
00:15:45and you climb up
00:15:47to stand on the ledge.
00:15:50Carefully,
00:15:51you move around
00:15:52to face outward.
00:15:54You stretch out your arms
00:15:56in the sign of Osiris
00:15:58and you grasp
00:15:59the bronze rings.
00:16:01The moon emerges
00:16:03from behind the clouds
00:16:04and bathes
00:16:06the vast seascape beyond
00:16:08in a pale silver light.
00:16:10You have a panoramic view
00:16:13of the shoreline
00:16:13and the gulf.
00:16:15A thousand yards out
00:16:16beyond the surf,
00:16:18a great statue
00:16:19rises
00:16:20out of the dark waters.
00:16:24This is the Colossus
00:16:25of Yasod.
00:16:27Far out
00:16:28on the dark horizon
00:16:30to your left,
00:16:31an orange light
00:16:32flashes
00:16:33from the distant
00:16:34sphere of Haud.
00:16:35and far off
00:16:38to the right,
00:16:39a green spark
00:16:40glimmers
00:16:41from the sphere
00:16:42of Nitzak.
00:16:43These distant beacons
00:16:45focus their rays
00:16:47on the crystal
00:16:48atop the Colossus.
00:16:50The crystal shimmers
00:16:52with an electric aura
00:16:54and suddenly
00:16:55a deep blue ray
00:16:57is projected
00:16:58directly towards you.
00:17:00It engulfs you
00:17:01in a violet,
00:17:03blue field
00:17:04of magnetic energy.
00:17:05Your Yasod chakra
00:17:07has awakened.
00:17:08A rose
00:17:09of nine yellow petals
00:17:11has opened
00:17:12to reveal
00:17:14a glittering
00:17:15violet amethyst.
00:17:18You have thus received
00:17:20the second
00:17:21of the jewels
00:17:22with which you will
00:17:23build your body
00:17:24of light.
00:17:25Remember it always
00:17:26and treasure it well.
00:17:28After we have received
00:17:29our mystical empowerment,
00:17:32we will journey
00:17:33out over the dark gulf
00:17:34to climb the spiral ramp
00:17:37circling the Colossus.

00:17:40the crystal globe
00:17:41of memory

00:17:42one of our past lives.
00:17:45Following this experience,

00:17:48along our path
00:17:49to the astral doorway
00:17:50that leads us back

00:17:53and into the temple
00:17:55where we will awaken
00:17:57from our hypnotic trance
00:17:58recalling our adventure
00:18:00and the knowledge
00:18:02we have gained.
00:18:03For the magician,
00:18:15his religion
00:18:16is the source
00:18:17of his power.
00:18:18He calls upon God
00:18:20or the gods
00:18:21to aid him
00:18:23in his quest
00:18:24for wisdom,
00:18:26inner strength,
00:18:27and enlightenment.
00:18:29But what is the best
00:18:31religion for a magician?
00:18:32Most of us
00:18:34have been raised
00:18:34in one or another
00:18:35of the biblically-based
00:18:37faiths,
00:18:38none of which
00:18:38are supportive
00:18:39of the practice
00:18:40of magic.
00:18:42And yet,
00:18:43old King Solomon
00:18:44was deemed
00:18:46to have been
00:18:46the greatest magician
00:18:48of the ages.
00:18:50What was his religion?
00:18:52Judaism?
00:18:54Well, officially, perhaps.
00:18:56But I believe
00:18:59that King Solomon's
00:19:01secret religion
00:19:02was the same
00:19:03as Melchizedek's
00:19:05a thousand years earlier.
00:19:07The ancient religion
00:19:09behind the Bible,
00:19:11the oldest religion,
00:19:14the religion
00:19:14of ancient Canaan
00:19:16and Phoenicia,
00:19:17the religion
00:19:18of King Solomon's friend,
00:19:20King Hiram of Tyre,
00:19:22who helped him
00:19:23to build the great temple
00:19:25in Jerusalem,
00:19:27a temple to God.
00:19:29But how did they spell
00:19:30God's name?
00:19:33With such a vision
00:19:34shining out of the mists
00:19:37of time,
00:19:38there came a compulsion
00:19:40to resurrect
00:19:42this ancient,
00:19:44magical religion.
00:19:45Before the 1930s discovery
00:19:50of an ancient
00:19:51Canaanite royal library
00:19:52unearthed at Ra Shemra,
00:19:55dating back to the time
00:19:56of Melchizedek,
00:19:58we had no clear idea
00:20:00of the original
00:20:01magical religion
00:20:02that lay behind
00:20:03our Bible.
00:20:04The Bible relates
00:20:05that the legendary
00:20:06Canaanite priest-king,
00:20:08Melchizedek,
00:20:09had given the holy sacraments
00:20:11and priestly dispensation
00:20:12to Father Abraham.
00:20:14And in the New Testament,
00:20:17Jesus is said
00:20:18to have been a priest
00:20:19after the order
00:20:20of Melchizedek.
00:20:21Beyond that,
00:20:22we had only
00:20:23the biased accounts
00:20:24of later Hebrew zealots
00:20:26in the Old Testament
00:20:27and equally critical
00:20:29Christian reports
00:20:30from classical times
00:20:31concerning the oldest religion.
00:20:34Before the translations
00:20:35of the recently discovered
00:20:37Ra Shemra tablets
00:20:38became available
00:20:40in the 1950s,
00:20:42our limited knowledge
00:20:43of the ancient
00:20:44Phoenician mysteries
00:20:45was summed up
00:20:46in such works
00:20:47as James George Fraser's
00:20:49The Golden Bough
