Chile’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Gloria de la Fuente, announced the start of citizens’ participation abroad for the second round of the presidential elections this Saturday. Due to time zone differences, the process will begin in New Zealand at 3:30 p.m. Santiago time, when polling stations in Wellington and Auckland will be declared open in a ceremony broadcast digitally from the ministry’s headquarters. According to the Electoral Service, 160,935 Chilean citizens are eligible to vote abroad. Unlike voting inside the country, participation abroad is voluntary, though the same documents are required: identity card or passport.
