01:00As little kids, I think about the moment that you decided that dancing was your calling.
01:07And the moment that you first saw a band and thought, man, I want to save up for an instrument.
01:14Every single one of us has picked professions that categorically people, for the majority of the time, they tell you you shouldn't do it.
01:24They tell you you should not try to do this.
01:26You have to love the thing so much that you override 85 to 95 percent of the advice you are given along the way by oftentimes people that you respect, people you trust, people in the field.
01:41Everyone in dance, everyone in music will tell everyone younger if there's anything else you can do.
01:48Do that.
01:49And so I'll see you getting rejected, not getting the job, not getting the part, not getting the solo.
01:58Yeah.
01:59I'll see all of those things that happened all along the way, the doors that were shut, the doors that were open, the windows you pried open.
02:06And then sometimes I'll see you when you're older and I'll think about what you're going to tell your family or the people that you mentor, because every single person in here has the spirit to mentor others and to tell them, yes, do it, try it, go for it.
02:26If you have that same love for it.
02:28And I think about whether that's to your grandchildren or to the little neighbor kid that just wants to talk to you about what that was like.
02:36Everyone likes to talk about phenomenons like the heiress tour, almost as if it was pieces falling into place in some sort of accidental confluence of events that just happened, right?
02:51When I'm thinking about the people that are in this circle, I don't think about it as pieces that fell into place.
02:58I think of each of you as like tectonic plates on the earth that took millions of micro decisions and forces of you pushing and pushing inch by inch closer together.
03:15And the heiress tour wasn't when all the pieces fell into place.
03:18That was just when every single one of us had done so much work to where this tour was just when we all clicked together.
03:28It is our job to make this look accidental and it is our job to make this look effortless.
03:35But I just want every single one of you to know that I in no way, shape or form look at this as the pieces just falling into place.
03:41You put the pieces where they are.
03:43This is the biggest challenge any of us have ever done.
03:49Tonight, we complete that challenge.
03:51I think I came up with the idea for the heiress tour about two years before the tour started.
04:20There were two main factors that culminated in the heiress tour.
04:24Both of them were unpleasant.
04:27We think that these bad things are happening to me or to us.
04:32If you flip it around correctly and you react in a certain way, those things can be happening for you.
04:38The first one being my entire catalog of my first six albums was sold out from under me to somebody else and I decided to sort of defiantly re-record all of my music.
04:55You know, when you revisit something, you go back into that world, all this work is so indicative of the time I was in, in my life, I feel like I'm reading my old diaries, thinking about all the different girls I was until I was this one.
05:10So that planted a little seed inherently in my mind, the idea of celebrating your past.
05:16I think the second factor being the pandemic.
05:19We've built a home studio in my house.
05:22I clung to songwriting as a sort of life raft.
05:26Stop it. Stop. Stop.
05:28I'm recording vocals.
05:30Folklore came out three or four months into the pandemic.
05:32We put out Evermore four months later.
05:35I hadn't toured in five years and the fans had created such demand for it.
05:40I've been loving Taylor Swift since I was 11 years old.
05:44Is she ever going to go on tour again?
05:46And I just thought to myself, what if I did a tour that celebrated all of these different moments in my life and career where you have chapters divided up by albums and everything changes when the chapter changes?
06:02She had said to us, this is going to be over three hours.
06:05And we were just like, oh my God, how do we do this?
06:10Not just planning, but executing a tour of this size is mind boggling.
06:16The process of putting together this tour happened in many different phases all over the world, happening simultaneously all at once.
06:25You had me doing my physical training six months before we even go into rehearsals.
06:29At this time, the choreographers goes in with the dancers.
06:31We've got the staging and the production design happening simultaneously, all to coincide with the same start date.
06:38The first day of rehearsal, she got out of her car and had tears in her eyes already.
06:44I'm weirdly emotional right now.
06:45It's so nice to meet you.
06:46I'm Taylor.
06:47Hey.
06:47Hi, I'm Kevin.
06:48So nice to meet you.
06:49I'm Taylor.
06:50I'm Taylor.
06:50I'm Sam.
06:50Nice to meet you.
06:51I mean, I've been doing this for almost 20 years.
06:53A bunch of different artists.
06:55I have never seen that.
06:56I have never seen the boss come into rehearsal crying with tears of happiness and passion about their job.
07:04We haven't done what we love on a stage in five years.
07:08Let's go do this.
07:10The fans have been so amazing and are so excited for the tour.
07:13I wanted to over-serve the fans.
07:15That was my main goal.
07:16I wanted to over-serve them in terms of the amount of songs they were going to hear, the length of the show, what kinds of production they were going to see, different styles of dance, different worlds of dance, wardrobe, how far I was going to push myself.
07:33Oh, my God.
07:34Okay.
07:35Let's do it, my friend.
07:35Here we go.
07:36When you come up with a goal like that, you just have to make a choice and decide there's no going back on that choice.
07:43Let's go!
07:44Woo!
07:45We're done!
07:46We're done!
07:51Good morning, America.
07:52It's Taylor.
07:53I wanted to tell you something that I've been so excited about for a really long time.
07:58I've been planning for ages, and I finally get to tell you I'm going back on tour.
08:02Oh, my God.
08:05We're doing something very stressful today.
08:07Today is ERA's pre-seal day.
08:09Why isn't it less?
08:10It's in.
08:11192.
08:14Oh, my God.
08:16We got row five.
08:18Oh, my God.
08:23You did that!
08:26You did that!
08:27You did that!
08:28You did that!
08:28I'm gonna fall.
08:29Oh, my God.
08:30Oh, my God.
08:31I think I thought fans would be excited about the idea of the ERA's tour.
08:36This is not real.
08:37This is not real.
08:38Yes.
08:39It is?
08:40Yes?
08:40Really?
08:41This was a completely different thing that I've ever experienced.
08:44Fans of Taylor Swift crashed the Ticketmaster website today.
08:48The demand to see Taylor at that point, I don't think anybody in the industry, expert or otherwise,
08:55would comprehend there was enough demand to do 255 stadiums.
09:03I'm actually not in Glendale.
09:04I'm in Swift City.
09:06Oh, yeah.
09:06Officials actually changed the name from Glendale to Swift City in honor of the megastar kicking
09:12off her tour.
09:13So, we go from, uh, detail-oriented, methodical, exhaustive process, and all of a sudden,
09:20in the last week leading up to the first show, everybody is firing on all cylinders.
09:26And then we had opening night.
09:27I'm about to say something to you that I've been just thinking about for years, you know?
09:34Welcome to the ERA's tour.
09:36Truly, everyone will tell you that none of us knew what the ERA's tour was becoming.
09:44Kansas City, welcome to the ERA's tour.
09:47She's a once-in-a-generation type of artist.
09:51I would almost compare it to the Beatles.
09:52When people start comparing this to, like, the Beatles and MJ, you just, you just don't
09:56expect that what you're getting into is going to be that.
10:00Yeah.
10:02Seattle, Washington, welcome to the ERA's tour.
10:05You know, her shows, the crowd is kind of always at banana's level, and this is a whole
10:10other gear, you know, or two.
10:12All of the Swifties started jumping around during the song.
10:16They caused the equivalent of a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.
10:20Los Angeles, California.
10:24Taylor Swift, she's more than just a pop icon.
10:26She's a business powerhouse.
10:29Swift's U.S. tour could generate $4.6 billion in consumer spending.
10:33That's more than the GDPs of Granada, Belize, and Tonga combined.
10:38Something experts have dubbed Swiftnomics.
10:41The Taylor Swift takeover seen across the country, leading to the emergence of Taylor
10:46Gating.
10:46Even fans without tickets are traveling to tour stops.
10:49I've never seen this before in my life.
10:52It's like one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen.
10:54It's like Woodstock, but without the drugs.
10:57The thing that's so special, it is that community where they get into that stadium and celebrate
11:05not just what's happening on that stage, but what's happening with them and how they honor
11:11each other and love each other, it just became this movement.
11:16I thought that this would be a tour I was very proud of.
11:33This is like more than a tour.
11:35It's like a force to be reckoned with in global culture.
11:39So never in my life did I think we would have a terrorist plot.
11:49We are continuing to follow breaking news.
11:52Three upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, Austria have been canceled after Austrian authorities
11:57arrested two suspects who, they say, had plans to carry out a terrorist attack at the concert
12:03site.
12:03According to officials, they found chemical explosives, detonators, and ISIS propaganda
12:09at the main suspect's home.
12:11Now the big question is, what's going to happen to the rest of her European tour?
12:15Well, at this point, all of her shows are going ahead as scheduled, including her concert
12:19right here in London.
12:21We're in London at my hotel, and basically, it's just kind of a weird feeling going into
12:35these last five shows in Europe because it sort of feels like we've done like 128 shows
12:41so far, but this is the first one where I feel like, I don't know, like I'm like skating
12:47on thin ice or something, we just had this, we've had a series of very violent, scary things
12:55happen to the tour.
12:56Like, we dodged like a massacre situation.
13:03And so, I've just been kind of all over the place, like, there was this horrible attack
13:09in Liverpool, um, at a Taylor Swift-themed dance party, and it was little kids that, um...
13:23I'm gonna, um, like, meet some of these families tonight, and...
13:53put on a pop concert, you know?
14:03Gonna be fine, because when I meet them, I'm not gonna do this, I swear to God.
14:07I'm not gonna do this.
14:08I'm gonna be smiling.
14:10So, any of this gets out of the way before you ever go on stage, you lock it off, three
14:16and a half hours, they don't have to worry about you.
14:19It's like you're, like, a pilot flying the plane, and if you were like, ooh, there's
14:25turbulence up ahead, I don't know if we're actually gonna land in Dallas, like, I'm gonna
14:30try hard, but I don't know if I can actually, like, figure out how to land through this turbulence.
14:34Like, everyone on the plane's gonna freak out.
14:36You just have to have a calm, cool, collected tone of like, we will be landing in Dallas at
14:426.05 p.m., got a little turbulence up ahead, but it's nothing we haven't seen before, just
14:47keep your seatbelts fastened, and welcome to the Aeros tour.
14:51There's something special about this tour, this iteration, this combination of people,
15:17this show, and I think about, like, how much love everybody here is pouring into what they
15:23do, the people who build the stage and hang the PA, and the people who wash the clothes
15:28and play the instruments and do all the dancing, and the only thing we're trying to do is to
15:32make the world go away for a little while and make people feel seen and let them scream lyrics
15:36that they love at the top of their lungs.
15:37It's so beautiful to find something so positive that can be an escape for people like this
15:44can, and it's amazing that what we've been a part of can do that for people.
15:50So, what happened in Vienna, and the idea of someone being able to rewrite the entire headline
15:55of this whole experience with one awful act, I feel so grateful that it got stopped, but
16:01I also felt just so horrible for the fans.
16:03Yeah, it's bad for me, but I can understand the decision, of course, of course.
16:08It's an acute danger that has existed or still exists, and even if you look back to what
16:15happened in England, I also understand that Taylor, and especially her team, they just
16:19want to go into a risk.
16:21I know that it sounds so stupid to be so upset about this, but, like, that environment of,
16:27like, the Ares tour where, like, everyone's so kind and, like, just having fun and, like,
16:32girlhood, like, that was so much of what I wanted to experience.
16:35Something this moving, this powerful, this rich in feeling and experience represents more
16:43than just people coming to see an artist perform songs.
16:46And so we have a large responsibility to do this show and still show up for fans in the
16:51way that we can and know how.
16:53Without getting too far into this, I do feel like the world right now is really torn.
16:58But I think being a part of this tour, we're shining enough light that it actually feels
17:03like, well, man, this is absolutely affecting a lot of lives.
17:07And I think for all of us that are in it, that's a pretty good perspective.
17:11For Vienna, all right, let's get out, do these shows, because this is why we're doing it.
17:18I just wanna know, you better know, you better know, you better now.
17:30I just wanna know you, know, you, know, you.
17:35Cause all I know is the sound of love, your eyes look like coming home.
17:40All I know is a simple name and everything has changed.
17:46All I know is you held the door, you'll be mine and I'll be yours.
17:51All I know since yesterday is everything has changed.
17:57Bringing out special guests is something that I really enjoy.
18:00Like, when I get to be on stage with someone like Ed Sheeran, we can create a unique, special moment.
18:07And it really just gives something to the fans that they didn't expect.
18:11Take me into your loving arms.
18:13I don't know if he thinks he's doing the harmony the whole time and I'm doing the melody.
18:17Kiss me under my arm.
18:18It's very cool that he would come and do this because I think it's just gonna like really delight people.
18:22And I think in a moment when like a lot of the fans need like a pick me up.
18:25Cause I know I do.
18:28Baby.
18:30How you doing?
18:32So I get to, I'm going to the stadium and I'll do a little, I know, we'll do a little dressing room rehearsal.
18:39I love you.
18:49How do you?
18:50I don't know.
18:51How do you, how do you remember 36,000 plays that are all tactical missions and then just go do it?
18:57It's the same.
18:58It's basically the same job.
19:00I got songs to remember.
19:01You got plays to remember.
19:02You got teammates.
19:03I got teammates.
19:04You've got Coach Reed.
19:07I've got my mom.
19:09I want you to be here.
19:18I want to be there.
19:20Why do you have to be in the NFL?
19:22So I'm going to be scouring the internet for you.
19:27I'm so excited.
19:29I'm so excited.
19:31But have a great practice.
19:33I love you so much, babe.
19:35I love you so much.
19:36Thanks for making me that better.
19:39I know this was like some people get a vitamin drip.
19:41for me.
19:42It's the same thing that I've had at this conversation.
19:46Two, three, hi.
19:48Oh, I'm sorry.
19:51That's right back.
19:53That's good.
20:09So I usually practice in the shower because I'm trying to respect kind of the space and
20:13peace of everyone else. So if I need to do something noisy, I go somewhere that people aren't that
20:19much and shower's a good enough bed. You know, I'm just trying to get a distance from everybody.
20:25It's a lot.
20:27I started playing for Taylor in 2007.
20:31Amos?
20:32Yeah. Hey, Tay.
20:33Are you wearing my headband again?
20:35I'm wearing our headband.
20:37I think if I look back at it now, the thing that remains really constant is there's not a challenge
20:43that she isn't going to meet head on and kind of decide to conquer.
20:48And having that kind of energy in the lead spot has inspired, I can say, me personally, to do a lot of the same things.
20:56This diamond here is where I'm coming up for the first thing.
21:01When we were in rehearsal for the Era's tour, we didn't quite know yet what it was going to be,
21:05what it was going to be called. I remember a meeting, I think we're all like sitting on the floor,
21:09where she kind of cast the vision.
21:11So it's going to start with a chorus of, it's really hard, really hard Miss Americana chorus, like hard.
21:20It's you and me, that's my whole world. They whisper in the hall when she's a bad, bad girl.
21:26And she's just like, here's my visions, what we're going to do.
21:29Just going to hit them with 22. We are never, ever getting back together.
21:32I knew you were trouble. And then the 10 full minutes all too well.
21:35Yeah.
21:36We're doing something from every album.
21:37We want to get straight into Willow.
21:39We'll do Enchanted.
21:40Girl, girl, girl.
21:42Ow!
21:45With you.
21:46And we got a list of about 40 songs.
21:48With you.
21:49Bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum, bum.
21:52Internally, certainly I scoff. That's almost three hours.
21:55This is insanity.
21:57What are we going to cut?
21:59And I think we added three songs.
22:01Once upon a time, the planet's in the face.
22:06And all the stars are mine.
22:09It seems obvious now, because it did work.
22:13But at the time, it's a big risk to decide,
22:16we're going to do a three hour plus show,
22:18we're going to do it in stadiums,
22:19and we're going to do it all over the world.
22:21And so, a lot of tenured professionals are doing their very best
22:24to quantify what it is about what she's doing
22:27that's connecting to everybody.
22:29It's just a show, it's just music,
22:31but there's something more profound than that going on here.
22:34Oh my gosh!!!!
22:40Thank you everyone!
22:41Oh my gosh!
22:50security is being stepped up for taylor swift's upcoming london concerts and this is why it's
23:01such a big deal this is her first performance since that thwarted terror plot to attack a show
23:06in vienna swifties are already moving in all of them going to be carefully screened as they enter
23:12this stadium police telling us they want to make sure that they know what everyone is doing inside
23:16that stadium and what are the fans there saying are they concerned some of the swifties said that
23:22they were acutely aware of what happened in austria uh but they're they're excited
23:26we've been here for like four or five hours we've spoken to people from like scotland and england
23:35and israel i feel like what's happening right now with everyone waiting for hours and exchanging
23:42bracelets and just like everyone making friends a 10 hours wait goes in five minutes
23:46honestly i'm actually quite a new swifty um a flatmate hates me now because i just play
23:53taylor swift all the time she said if you if you like play karma one more time you're going to get
23:58evicted i want to cry for like joy tears of joy is what i want because like this has been such a long
24:05time coming like put my tickets over a year ago just seeing her face i know i'm just like she's not a
24:12real person i'm just so excited to like breathe the same air as her
24:18casting spotlights here and there across the ground at a certain point tracy understood where
24:26they were going under normal circumstances she would have felt afraid she was typically
24:31a follower i've been performing for you know 20 years from a mental standpoint being like afraid
24:39something's going to happen to your fans at any moment this is a new challenge i want to keep
24:46all of the nerves i have away from the crowd because when you're sort of the ringleader of this show
24:53they can sense any kind of shift energetically in you and you have to really focus on that and
25:00factor that in that you're at the heiress tour nothing's wrong
25:03down the same hallway through which they had entered hey suddenly there came two voices
25:08male and hi how you doing trying to take a nap no i'm trying to calm down i'm having a very
25:16physical reaction to my nerves i'm just i'm just like my hands are shaky and just nerves about like
25:25what happened last week or yeah it's just weird it's just weird i just have to get this first show
25:29over with no it's i'm the same way right now i can't right yeah i can't relax i'm just like twitchy
25:36and fidgety and yeah just get the show over with tonight get back on the horse hey hey oh my god
25:50nice to see that's what the doctor ordered i'm so excited thank you for doing this
25:57you guys good yeah do you are you just yes sure yeah sure you just kind of flies on the wall for
26:03everything it's basically like every day that i have not not in vienna though right they were
26:09supposed to start in vienna but i didn't get to go like they oh you weren't even in the country
26:14no i was on the plane headed there damn it was like i was i'm just you know it's like i just need
26:24to get this i just need to do this show re like remember the joy of it because i'm a little bit
26:30just like you know and you get time off i get two months off after this which i need i need more
26:37than i'm gonna go somewhere because you've seen my schedule like it's like heavy yeah it's just
26:42are you gonna are you gonna choose somewhere to go you're just gonna live in i'm just gonna go
26:46somewhere no one can find me i just don't want to be tracked like an animal yeah i just have felt
26:52very like hunted lately i feel like people have forgot that like you're a human being amongst all
26:59of this as well hundred percent yeah yeah
27:02you know it's high yeah it's hot so i can sing the melody if you want to sing the harmony that would be
27:11i'll do the first verse and first chorus by myself just to build tension and they're gonna be like
27:27oh my god oh my god oh my god izzy izzy izzy and then after the first chorus i'm gonna be like guys
27:31like i could even like stop playing be like guys it's just there's something's something's not
27:37something's missing from this i just and that's when they're gonna start screaming their heads off
27:42when i'm like something's missing i just feel like i feel like i can't do this alone tonight
27:46i just want to know you better know you better know you better now i just want to know you better
27:54know you better know you better know you better now i just want to know you better know you better
28:02now i just want to know you know you know you it's all i know is you said your eyes look like coming
28:13home all i know is a simple thing and everything has changed

30:16I know you helped them
30:41I know it doesn't seem to me, but I know you helped them.
30:47From a mental standpoint, I just do live in a reality that's very unreal a lot of the time.
30:55But it's my job to kind of be able to handle all these feelings and then perk up immediately to perform.
31:03That's just the way it's got to be.
31:11I don't know.
31:41I don't know.
32:11I don't know.
32:13I don't know.
32:15I don't know.
32:17I don't know.

32:29I don't know.
32:31I don't know.
32:33I don't know.
32:35I don't know.
32:37I don't know.
32:39I don't know.
32:41I don't know.
32:43I don't know.
32:45I don't know.
32:47I don't know.
32:49I don't know.
32:51I don't know.
32:53I don't know.
32:55I don't know.
32:57I don't know.
32:59I don't know.
33:01I don't know.
33:03I don't know.
33:05I don't know.
33:07I don't know.
33:09I don't know.
33:11I don't know.
33:12I don't know.

33:14I don't know.
33:15I don't know.
33:15I don't know.
33:35Okay, that was awesome.
33:37So you've gotten me feeling really really really powerful
34:07We are never, ever, ever getting back together
34:21We are never, ever, ever getting back together
34:26You will talk to your friends, talk to my friends, talk to me
34:31Now we got problems, and I don't think we can solve them
34:37You made a really deep cry, and baby, now we got bad blood
34:42I got mad, I got mad, I got mad, I got mad
34:48I got mad, I got mad, I got mad, I got mad, I got mad
34:51Baby, now we got bad blood
34:53Oh, I've been this morning when I woke
35:04Cause I know something loud, know something loud, I didn't before
35:10And all I've seen, since 18 hours ago
35:16Scream eyes, I feel close to the sky, and open my mind, make me feel
35:21But I just feel like I'm not really doing it justice
35:24Like, I feel like
35:25Do you know what I mean?
35:31I just feel so lonely up here, do you know what I mean?
35:38So it's a good thing
35:40That Ed Sheeran is here
35:42I'll take them down, take them down, and open up the door for you
36:05And all I feel
36:08And the stomach is butterflies
36:10The beautiful calm, waking up the lost time
36:13Taking blood, making it feel right
36:16There's so many hundreds of moments of individual eye contact throughout the course of the show
36:44I see the mass quantities of joy that everyone's feeling
36:50What's interesting is, like, there's some joy in the show
36:55But there's a lot of emotions in this that aren't just, like, put on your smiley face and come to the heiress tour
37:01It's so much more
37:03You look out into the crowd, and this isn't just, like, a blob of lights
37:10These are millions of stories and all these counter-narratives all colliding in one place
37:16Where we feel safe to be demonstrative about a whole spectrum of emotion
37:21That stuff is really powerful
37:24Life contains multitudes
37:54And we're kind of exploring all of the dramatic edges of those things
37:58That's what might be unlocking feelings of joy, feelings of euphoria
38:03And it still gets me
38:06It does
38:07It's so much fun!
38:09It's so much fun!
38:11It's so much fun!
38:12It's so much fun!
38:13It's so much fun!
38:14It's so much fun!

38:21It's so much fun!
38:22It's so much fun!
38:23It's so much fun!
38:24It's so much fun!

38:38We're back!
38:39We're back!
38:40We're back!
38:41We're back!
38:42We're back!
38:43We're back!
38:44Oh my god!
38:45Just knowing how happy they all were, they were just losing their mind.
38:53Good job, everybody!
38:55We're back! We're back! We're back!
38:59We're back!
39:06Oh, that's cute.
39:08Oh, my God, we're back.
39:10You're right, he killed it.
39:13Love it, love you.
39:16I'm so relieved.
39:18Anything bad happens, I don't know about.
39:20Nothing, nothing's going to happen, all right? You gotta go, all right?
39:24Okay, bye-bye.
39:26Home and rest.
39:33Love you.
39:34Love you.
39:36Oh, my God.
39:42Oh, my God.
39:43I'm so happy, I can't even deal with it.
39:45God, I love you.
39:46It went so great. I'm so happy.
39:49Oh, I can hear you.
39:51I'm so relieved.
39:53Baby, it's like the crowd knew that I needed a pick-me-up.
39:56Like, they were, when I walked out on stage, they just, they were wilder than I've ever seen.
40:03I'm so happy to be back.
40:05I'm so happy to be back doing this in, like, a functional way.
40:08Like, I was so happy that I thought I was gonna forget how to play guitar and sing.
40:13Hi, honey. I know. I know. I was at work.
40:20Basically, what happens now is, like, I'll not be able to get to sleep, because I can't, like, come down.
40:27This is why people need drugs, but I don't do drugs.
40:30So I just, like, let it ride.
40:32I just, like, go to sleep when I'm tired, and when I'm tired, it's, like, 4 in the morning.
40:36So I watch tons of TV, I get room for the same bed, I sign a box of 2,000 CDs, and then, and then I'm tired.
40:46And then we do the whole thing again.
41:06Thank you, everyone.
