00:00So the show is great. I know you've done some animated work before, but how does Praise Petey compare to your past animated works?
00:09It was such a bizarrely strange and hilarious experience.
00:15I think that Anna Drazen, who created the show, her mind is a deeply bizarre and wonderful place.
00:25And it really kind of pulls out all the stuff.
00:28The fact that it's animated means anything is possible.
00:31And they've really leaned into that.
00:33And it's fun because it's like it's adult humor.
00:36It's like very adult humor.
00:38And I haven't been able to do that before.
00:40So it was very freeing.
00:43Yeah, it is such an interesting premise.
00:45And like you said, it is very adult oriented.
00:47What did you think about it when you were pitched it and just the whole idea of the show itself?
00:52I loved it.
00:53I mean, I've always loved a good cult story or documentary.
00:57I think there is.
00:59It's just such such a there's so much to draw on.
01:05And the thought of a woman inheriting a cult from her dead dad, it just felt right.
01:12It just felt like the right story to tell.
01:14And like a few pages in when I found out that my character was dating a literal plank of wood, I knew that Anna and I had very similar senses of humor.
01:26So I was not disappointed.
01:29Yeah.
01:29Inheriting a cult isn't something we see on many TV shows and movies.
01:32That definitely does make this show unique in itself.
01:34Did you find yourself being similar to Petey at all?
01:38And if so, how?
01:41Um, I mean, I guess there have been times in my life where I've had an idea and instead of saying it out loud, I whisper it and then shimmy and then apologize.
01:53Um, working on getting better at that.
01:57I think, you know, the, the.
02:00Not feeling a hundred percent comfortable in your own skin, but working hard to figure out how to get there.
02:06That's a similarity.
02:08Um.
02:09Otherwise, she's a she's she's on a whole other page.
02:14Yeah.
02:14Yeah, absolutely.
02:15Um, we see that so much of the show is kind of a lot about her starting off kind of on the top and then she has to kind of falls to the bottom and has to figure things out.
02:23In a way, the premise isn't that different in parts of Schitt's Creek.
02:27Did you see any similarities in that kind of going from the top to the bottom and just being like, got to figure out this next step?
02:32Oh, for sure.
02:33And I also got to pull out my, my vocal fry that I kept in the closet for a few years.
02:39So I got to bring a little bit of access.
02:40Yeah.
02:41So, um, yes, there are certainly some similarities in, um, in those two shows, but, uh, there are jokes made in praise PD that would have never seen the light of day on network television.
02:57And I guess that's the power of doing animated shows as well.
03:01Right.
03:01Totally.
03:02Yeah.
03:02A hundred percent.
03:03Yeah.
03:04There are so many great co-stars that you're in a show with.
03:06Um, did you get to get to know any of these people or were you separate?
03:10Just doing the recordings.
03:12That's the one downside of, of, um, doing voice work is that you're all alone for the most part.
03:18I, um, I still haven't met any of my castmates in person.
03:22Uh, but we're lucky.
03:23I mean, it was also like thick in COVID times when we were doing a lot of the recording, but we got to, we did a table read of every episode over zoom.
03:33Um, so like, you know, you get a sense of, of the vibe and the chemistry and it was nice to be able to put faces and names to, to everybody.
03:44And, uh, I hope, I hope we get to cross paths in real life.
03:47One of these days.
03:48It's strange.
03:48Not, not having done that.
03:50Yeah.
03:51It's a good group.
03:51Christine Bransky, Steven Rue.
03:53I mean, you guys have all done so many different things.
03:55So it's fun to see you all involved in this soul project together.
03:58It's amazing.
03:59It's just, and like real pros.
04:02Like I felt like showing up to school.
04:04Um, but I, I, I'm in very, very good company.
04:08Absolutely.
04:09Which, um, character between PD and a different character, did you enjoy the dynamic of the most?
04:14Like, was there a certain character that you loved that dynamic fleshed out?
04:18Um, I love the, the like classic will they, won't they of, uh, John Cho's character, Bandit and PD.
04:26Um, they kind of, it's like a love, very love, very hate relationship, uh, fraught with a whole bunch of sexual, sexual tension, um, which was very fun to play.
04:38And so, uh, so that, that one's a lot of fun to do.
04:42Are you hoping to get more involved in animated as time goes on?
04:45I mean, you do have history of doing so, but is this kind of rejuvenated your interest in being involved in animated projects?
04:51Oh, a hundred percent.
04:52I, I think it's, it's so much fun and so different from film and TV acting.
04:57And like, I, when you shoot a season of TV, it's like, you know, three or four or five months of your life.
05:05And so to be able to be a part of a project I'm super proud of and having only done like a handful of hours to make it is, is really cool.
05:16Yeah.
05:17What do you think your fans reaction and response is going to be to this show?
05:19I mean, if they have weird, dirty minds, they're going to love it so much.
05:28It's the show for them.
05:29Yes.
05:30That's probably the best way to promote it right there.
05:34That's all I need to hear.
05:35Weird, dirty.
05:36That's, that's, that's it.
05:39Yeah.
05:39My last question for you, it's kind of a two-parter.
05:41How would Petey get along with Alexis Rose and Joan from Black Mirror?
05:45How would she get along with each of those two?
05:47Oh, goodness.
05:49I feel like Alexis and Petey would either be best friends or like mortal enemies.
05:57And I feel like Joan is a little boring.
06:02Yeah.
06:03Yeah, absolutely.
06:04And just real quick, what was your thoughts about the reaction to the Black Mirror episode?
06:08You were getting praised for your work and you were fantastic.
06:11I will say that.
06:12It really does feel like I'm in a Black Mirror episode, having been in a Black Mirror episode.
06:16Like I, I've been such a fan of that show.
06:20And then to have worked with Selma Hayek, like I still haven't fully wrapped my, my brain around
06:25the experience.
06:25It was so much fun.
06:26And I'm so happy that people are, are digging it as much as they are.
06:31Yeah.
06:31And I think they're going to dig this, this next thing too.
06:33So I'm super excited for Praise Petey and congrats on being involved.
06:36Another great thing.
