00:00We are here today because of our nativity scene that is out front, which tries to really take
00:14the nativity story, the story of the Holy Family and Jesus' birth, and put it into present-day
00:19context. And so we wanted to ask the question, what would it be like if Jesus were born today
00:25in Chicagoland? How is he coming into being? And that's why the centurions are ICE officers.
00:31That's why our baby Jesus has on zip ties.
00:42We've heard from people all over the world who appreciate what we've done. We've heard
00:47from some people who don't appreciate it. I think either they don't fully understand the
00:52message, or maybe they find it really challenging to their conscience. I hope that everyone
00:57who's upset to see a doll with a zip tie on its hands, they're even more upset to see that
01:02happening to children, to the real children of God living in the world today.
01:06I'm going to let it shine.
01:09Whenever you have a question of how you should act, you say to yourself, what would Christ
01:25do? That's what we're always taught by these nuns and brothers and fathers and everybody
01:32else and our own parents, what would Christ do? And now we're doing what Christ would do,
01:40and it doesn't seem to jive. I'm sorry that the Archdiocese is offended, and we mean absolutely
01:47no disrespect to the Archbishop at all. That's not what is meant here. But we feel, probably
01:55because we're working so closely with refugees, we feel compelled to make this statement.
02:12It's important because I'm a Catholic, and I am not exactly happy with political expression
02:21about my church. So I believe that the church enjoys a tax-exempt status within the United
02:29States of America, and that we should stick to spiritual matters, not matters of political
02:35division.
