00:00so over here you can see that I have this particular cell right here and let's say what
00:09I want to do is I want to restrict out the input to number only or text only right here but we
00:17don't have a validation method that we can actually select to just input text or number
00:22for that we can actually go ahead and use custom validation so I have this cell right here so I'm
00:28just going to go around over here onto the data tab and then I'm going to go to data validation
00:33so around over here what I'm going to do now is choose data validation and then what I can do is
00:39you can see that any value is right now in allow state but I can go ahead and expand this and then
00:46select out custom so over here in formula what I want to do is make sure it only accepts let's say
00:53for example text so for that I can press equals and type in is text right here just like this
00:59so once I go ahead and do that I need to enter out where so this is b2 right here so it's going to be
01:06b2 right here and if you want to select a range of cell you can actually go around from b2 to b5 right
01:13here just like this as well press ok and then the data validation is there so you can see that if I
01:19were to go around over here and let's say for example type in a number it won't allow me because
01:24it's not a um a term uh not a text right here so if I were to actually go around over here add in a
01:32text then only it accepts it out type in a number right here just like this you can see that it still
01:38doesn't accept it right here so it accepts it because I didn't actually went ahead and selected out
01:44multiple cells so let me just go around select out multiple cells now let's select out uh let's
01:49say for example data validation data validation right here and then you can see is it says is text
01:55you can see it's a b2 to b5 now so let's just go around and say apply these to um uh let's say for
02:03example other cells as well so if I were to go around over here and change this out now you can see
02:08that it still doesn't go ahead and accept it out as well right here so now I can even go ahead right
02:14here and change it out I can select it and I can go to data validation right here and then what I can
02:20do now is instead of is text I can also go ahead and say is number right here just like this so num
02:27right here just like this so if I were to press ok then this is what you have so if I were to type in
02:34any number then this is what you have and if I were to type in any text then what happens is that
02:39it doesn't accept it out so that is how you can go ahead and restrict out input to numbers or just
02:45text inside of microsoft excel so hope you found this video useful be sure to hit the like button
