00:03Private markets could see an influx of capital under legislation approved by the House on Thursday, according to CNBC.
00:09The House passed the Invest Act by a 302 to 123 vote,
00:14with 87 Democrats joining Republicans to expand investor access to private markets and boost capital formation for startups.
00:22The bill would allow investors to qualify as accredited by passing a Securities and Exchange Commission-approved exam
00:27instead of meeting wealth or income thresholds.
00:30It would also raise the investor cap for venture funds to $500 from $250
00:33and increase fundraising limits to $50 million from $10 million before triggering stricter disclosure rules.
00:40The package would make it easier for venture firms to invest in each other,
00:43a change lawmakers said could direct more capital to regions such as the Midwest and South.
00:49The bill now heads to the Senate.
