00:24The People's Television Network was honored at the Icons of Change International Awards 2025 as a changemaker for transparent governance, responsible journalism, and national unity under Sustainable Development Goal 16, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
00:42PTNI General Manager Maria Lourdes Cho Afagar says the recognition affirms the network's commitment to truth and transparency.
00:49At PTV, we believe trust is earned daily through responsible journalism, while peace is strengthened when information is used to uplift communities rather than divide them.
01:02Guided by these values, we have worked hard this past year to broaden regional access, modernize our digital platforms, and uphold fact-driven reporting to better serve the Filipino people in an evolving media landscape.

01:28Meanwhile, PTV News Tonight anchor, Sharm Cespina, was also honored as a changemaker for public trust, ethical journalism, and community advocacy under SDG 16.
01:38In her acceptance speech, Sharm said that she is grateful for the award.
01:43This is a celebration of visionaries and changemakers who stand together to create meaningful and lasting change.
01:52And I think that's why it's so important, especially broadcast journalists like myself and everyone in media or who has an impact to a lot of people,
02:02that you make sure that you stand for something significant.
02:06I have always stood for one of my biggest advocacies, which is environmental protection and conservation and animal rights.
02:15And being in media, especially in government media, is so important because you need to talk about the truth.
02:22We have a mandate to not just inform and educate the people about what government programs are being imparted to the people,
02:31but also to let people understand issues and the truth, what matters to them, so that they make better choices.
02:40That's the power of responsible media.
02:43It turns information into action, and action then turns into change.
02:47She underscored everyone has the capability to cause meaningful change in this world.
02:53I'd like to inspire every single person out there, every individual, no matter what you're doing,
03:00you have the power to create the change that you want in this world.
03:05We're not just living for ourselves.
03:07We have a responsibility and a mandate for responsible stewardship for the environment, first and foremost.
03:13We, the earth doesn't need us, actually.
03:16We need the earth to survive.
03:18So let's not walk towards our own doom.
03:21Let's create the future that we need and that we desire.
03:25So that's why this is an award, not just in celebration of what I have done, my personal efforts,
03:31but of what we must still do together.
