00:00ASML is the company that sits at the heart of your phone, your laptop and the AI revolution.
00:06And yet most people will never have heard of it.
00:09It is the only company on earth capable of making the machines that print the tiniest
00:15circuits on the most advanced chips.
00:18So this is the very first ASML lithography machine.
00:23It's about the size of an American fridge.
00:25The most modern and most up-to-date lithography machines made by ASML are about the size of
00:29a double-decker bus.
00:31The extreme ultraviolet lithography machine, ASML's crown jewel, costs more than $300 million
00:38and according to some analysts contains more than 100,000 parts.
00:43So as well as being at the very cutting edge of the global chip ecosystem, ASML is also this incredible supply chain operation.
00:52Just for one single ASML machine they depend on about a thousand different suppliers.
00:58companies feeling hundreds of thousands of individual parts.
01:02This is one module.
01:03It's a laser amplifier.
01:05Today's top semiconductor firms, the likes of Nvidia, AMD and Micron, design the chips.
01:11Their designs are sent to foundries like TSMC and Samsung which manufacture the chips, mostly in Asia.
01:17And for the most advanced semiconductors, those foundries depend almost entirely on EUV machines from ASML, all made in the Netherlands.
01:27The industry's great challenge is the one it's faced for decades, fitting more and more computing power on less and less space.
