00:00The bullet from a gun shot aimlessly skyward will land back to Earth and proven fatal should it hit an unsuspecting soul.
00:08Hence, lawmakers and the police are strictly urged to eschew such custom by muzzle or tape wrapping the handles and triggers of their service firearms during the New Year's Eve celebration.
00:19Thus, police commanders are in serious discussion to revive such practice after a three-year pause with an even stricter one-strike policy,
00:28which our Ryan Lesigas details in this report.
00:33For three years, the Philippine National Police, or PNP, has not implemented muzzle taping of firearms during holiday season and New Year.
00:41But this year, they may bring back the sealing of firearms.
00:45According to PNP Public Information Office Chief Police Breeder General Rondo of Tuanyo,
00:49this was one of the topics discussed in the meeting on the Enhanced Managing Police Operations.
00:54In line with this, the PNP will also implement a one-strike policy for commanders who fail to immediately act on cases of indiscriminate firing in their areas of responsibility.
01:06This applies if the commander fails to immediately resolve the case.
01:10This is part of efforts to intensify the campaign against those who fire their guns recklessly during holiday celebrations.
01:40Meanwhile, the PNP has also increased the number of personnel to be deployed for security this holiday season.
01:47About 100,000 members from law enforcement groups and force multipliers will be deployed.
01:53Of this, 70,000 will come from the PNP with the goal of ensuring a trouble-free long holiday break.
02:10In fact, 8 focus crimes in the country dropped 13% from October to November this year.
02:31According to the PNP, they will deploy 40% more security forces this year
02:36compared to just 60,000 in 2024.
02:39Despite this, the PNP maintains it has not monitored any threats.
02:44Ryan Lisiguez, from the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
