00:00Here he comes! Here he comes! There's the trumpets, there's the drums. Here he comes!
00:09Hop along, Cassidy, here he comes!
00:15I received an urgent letter from my old friend Sheriff Jeff Barton over in Stone Valley.
00:34He wrote that he was having a little trouble and asked me to drop by if I could spare the time.
00:39Now Sheriff Jeff has been a law officer the best part of his life and is a fearless man.
00:46So when he said he was having a little trouble, it meant something serious.
00:50My saddle pal Red Connors was eager to go along because just the mention of trouble
00:55and the chance of getting mixed up in it was like a tonic for him.
01:05At the top of the hill we looked down on Stone Valley.
01:08At the far end to the south was the town, our destination.

01:26The End
01:56Sheriff Jeff Barton
02:20He's hurt bad
02:22This ranch is only a short ways from here
02:25Let's get him home and get a doctor for him
02:26How is he, doctor?
02:33Why, I can't tell the extent of his injuries
02:35Till I make a more thorough examination
02:37There may be serious complications
02:39Could I talk to him for a minute?
02:41Why, since he knows you, Mr. Cassidy
02:42And you're a friend of his way
02:43It might lift his spirit if he knows you around
02:46Thank you
02:46But only for a minute
02:48Thanks, doctor
02:49Goodbye, Mr. Roberts
02:54Goodbye, doc
02:55Thanks again
02:56Say, did you see the men who tried to kill our sheriff?
03:02Well, Hoppy and me didn't get close enough to get a good look at them
03:04As soon as the buckboard wrecked, they cleared out fast
03:07It's an outrage
03:08Well, I ain't been keeping score about what's been going on here in Stone Valley
03:11But you can say that again, Mr. Roberts
03:14Stephen Roberts
03:15Like my friends here, I own a ranch
03:18Yeah, I'm glad to know you, Mr. Roberts
03:19Connor's my name
03:21Most everybody calls me Red
03:22Friend of Cassidy's?
03:24Yeah, Hoppy and me's been knocking around together for years
03:27We ranches are desperate
03:28I don't know what we'll do with our sheriff laid up
03:31Hoppy's a good friend of the sheriff
03:33He'd be glad to help you
03:34We sure need all the help we can get
03:36So long
03:37So long
03:38As the doc said, my old friend Sheriff Barton was glad that Red and I had arrived
03:45He told me as much as he could about the trouble in Stone Valley
03:49But I didn't let him talk too long
03:51Doctor's orders
03:52I learned that Stone Valley was being run by a group who called themselves the Ranchers Cooperative Association
04:00For a year, this association had been friendly and given the ranchers credit for the supplies they needed
04:05The bills were to be paid when the crops and the cattle were sold
04:09Recently, the ranchers had found out that their bills had been padded with interest and unfair prices
04:15When they couldn't pay, the association threatened foreclosure and refused more credit
04:20Attempts to haul in supplies were stopped by mysterious raiders
04:24And some of the ranchers had been killed
04:27The sheriff himself had been the latest victim
04:30Just before he lapsed into unconsciousness
04:33He told me that a man named Morgan was the head of the association
04:37I decided to pay him a visit
04:39I left Sheriff Barton in the care of some neighbors
04:47While Red and I rode into town to call on Morgan
04:49I had told Red what the sheriff had said
04:52And as usual, he perked up and his eyes were gleaming at the prospect of a fight
04:56But that was one thing I planned to avoid, if possible
04:59The Ranchers Cooperative Association cannot extend any more credit for supplies to ranchers
05:08Who have not paid their current bill
05:10This smells like a politician's promise to me
05:13Uh, Red, when we get inside, let me do the talking, huh?
05:18I won't say anything
05:19You know me, Hoppy
05:20Yeah, I do know you
05:22That's why I'm telling you
05:23Hi, Robert
05:27You men are going to see Morgan, you're wasting your time
05:30I just saw him and demanded that the association get more credit for the ranchers
05:34He not only refused, but ordered me out
05:36Well, maybe we'll have better luck
05:39This is no joking matter, Cassidy
05:41If we don't get supplies soon, we'll be starved out
05:44I wouldn't be surprised if the men raiding our wagons are hired by Morgan
05:48This Morgan sounds like a low-down, white-livered skunk
05:52Ah, let's go in and find out for ourselves
05:56You Mr. Morgan?
06:14Yes, I'm Morgan
06:15My name's Cassidy, Miss Red Connors
06:18How do you do?
06:19Well, what can I do for you?
06:20I'm a friend of Sheriff Barton's
06:21Oh, well, I'm sorry about the Sheriff's accident
06:24He was a good man
06:25He's still a good man
06:26I think I know why you men are here
06:30The ranchers have told you that the association was unfair to them
06:33Because he wouldn't give them any more credit
06:35Well, that seems to be the general opinion
06:37I don't have to explain anything to you, Cassidy
06:40The association's done of your affair
06:42I haven't said that it was, have I?
06:46Well, you seem to be an intelligent man
06:48Sit down, I'll explain our position to you
06:51Maybe you can make these six-gold ranchers understand
06:55Well, it might help clear things up
06:57The association is a business organization
07:00A year ago, we tried to help the ranchers
07:03By extending liberal credit to them for their supplies
07:05Now, when they won't pay
07:07We find ourselves with thousands of dollars on the books
07:10Look at those shelves
07:12With our capital gone, we were unable to restock
07:16And now, the ranchers, they demand
07:19More credit and more supplies
07:20I see what you mean
07:21You've probably also heard
07:23That we're going to start foreclosure proceedings
07:25Against the ranchers
07:26Yeah, we did hear that
07:27We're in business to make money, not to lose it
07:29Naturally, we'll use legal means
07:31To get back what they owe us
07:33Well, what you say certainly makes sense
07:35I knew you'd understand
07:36You any idea who the varmints are
07:39That have been raiding the ranchers' wagons?
07:40I'd like to get my hands on them
07:41They raided two of ours
07:43Well, they made a mistake
07:45When they picked on Sheriff Barton
07:46Murder is bad business
07:48Murder?
07:50I thought you said the sheriff would recover
07:51I don't remember saying anything
07:53About the sheriff's health
07:55Come on, Rhett
07:58See you later
08:03Morgan was a cagey character
08:06But I began to suspect
08:08That he knew far more about the raiders
08:10Than he said
08:10His reply to my hint
08:12That the sheriff had been murdered
08:13Was proof that someone
08:14Had informed him of Barton's condition
08:16And the informer had to be someone
08:19Who was at the house this morning
08:21I can't figure what you got up your sleeve
08:23But I know you got something
08:25Not a thing
08:26Cassidy
08:27It's Roberts and the ranchers
08:31Do you want to see them?
08:32Sure
08:33Why not?
08:34Did Morgan agree to give you more supplies
08:44For us ranchers?
08:46Now, see here, Robert
08:47Hoppy never said he'd get any supplies for you
08:49You were inside the store
08:51And saw the empty shell
08:52That doesn't mean a thing
08:53They've got plenty of supplies
08:54Stacked away somewhere
08:55Yeah, you seem pretty sure of that
08:57Well, it's obvious
08:58They're not being starved out
08:59And I suppose you've advised the ranchers
09:02To turn over their land
09:02Of the association
09:03Well, they're going to foreclose
09:05What else can we do?
09:07Did you ever think of fighting for your rights?
09:10Hey, that's an idea, Hoppy
09:12There's freight hauling outfits
09:13At the county seat
09:14That'll get supplies in here
09:15That has possibilities
09:17Yeah, and another thing
09:18We can start our own store
09:20We'll fight this association
09:22Bunch at their own game
09:23But that's dangerous
09:24What's so darn dangerous about it?
09:26Well, it might start a fight
09:27We've had enough bloodshed in the valley
09:29Oh, I don't know
09:30A good fight out in the open
09:32Kind of clears the air
09:33Yeah, just let them skunks
09:34That have been raiding your wagon
09:35Show their faces
09:36Look here, Cassidy
09:37We didn't ask for your help
09:38Who gave you authority
09:40To butt into our affairs?
09:41I still say this store idea
09:43Is foolish and dangerous
09:44I think my friends here
09:46Will agree with me
09:47Killing people may be alright for you
09:49But we want no part of it
09:51Why that little rat?
09:54You wait here
09:55But, Hoppy
09:57I said wait here
09:58I didn't know why Red's suggestion
10:06About the store
10:06Had made this fellow Robert so angry
10:08But there was a reason for it
10:10Which I intended to find out
10:12At the moment
10:13It was important to play possum
10:15Until I had proof
10:16Of what I suspected
10:16Robert
10:18Red and I have no intentions
10:20Of starting any gunplay
10:21My only interest here
10:22Is to get the men
10:23Who attacked the sheriff
10:24I'm going out to see him
10:26He's promised to tell me
10:28Who and what is behind
10:29The association's attempt
10:30To freeze out the ranchers
10:31Well, that's good news, Cassidy
10:33Why didn't Sheriff Barton
10:35Tell us ranchers?
10:36Well, he probably hadn't
10:37Finished his investigation yet
10:38I certainly hope
10:39You can find some way
10:40To help us out
10:41We can't hold out much longer
10:42I was against Red's store idea
10:45But I hope I'm wrong
10:46I own that vacant store
10:48Across the street
10:49Here's the key
10:50Use it
10:51Well, thank you very much
10:53Hey, when that robber's left here
11:05He was about ready
11:06To cut off my ear
11:06You go over there
11:07And get him eaten
11:08Out of your hand
11:09How do you do it?
11:09Nothing to it
11:10Hey, we're in business
11:12Don't tell me
11:13He gave me the whole store
11:14Sure, he decided
11:15To give your idea a try
11:16Well, I'm not so sure
11:18That'll work, Hoppy
11:19Well, of course it'll work
11:20Haven't you always said
11:22You'd like to settle down
11:23And have a business of your own?
11:25Yeah, but
11:25Now's your big chance
11:26But where are we going
11:27To get the supplies?
11:29Didn't you say
11:30You knew a freight haul
11:31And I fit at the county seat?
11:33Did I say that?
11:35You said that
11:36On a lot of other things
11:38I'm going out
11:39To see Sheriff Barton
11:39You stay here
11:40And get things fixed up
11:41And keep out of trouble
11:42There's your key
11:44Yeah, but Hoppy
11:45But Hoppy, I ain't
11:46Hoppy
11:47But Hoppy, I can't
11:49Are they gone?
12:10Yes
12:10I want some of our men
12:11To follow him out
12:12To Sheriff Barton's ranch
12:13This time we've got
12:14To get them both
12:14He gave me the idea
12:16That Barton had been murdered
12:17You were a fool
12:18To fall for that
12:19I told you the sheriff
12:20Was still alive
12:21When I left his ranch
12:22Now you told me
12:23The men would get him too
12:24Well, I couldn't know
12:25That Cassidy
12:25Would be riding out
12:26In the valley
12:27At that particular time
12:28We shouldn't have
12:29Raided the sheriff's wagon
12:30If you'd have listened to me
12:31I give the orders
12:32Where are the men?
12:33In the stable
12:34I keep them on the side
12:34I don't tell them
12:35To get started
12:36We haven't got any time
12:36To lose
12:37The men leave
13:06Yeah, I told them
13:08To riddle the sheriff's room
13:09To make sure
13:09That Cassidy got his
13:10Good
13:11Dexter and Lawson
13:12Still around?
13:13Yeah, they only sent
13:14Four men
13:14Well, we've got
13:16A little job
13:16Right here in town
13:17That needs taking care of
13:18Take Dexter and Lawson
13:20And see if you can
13:21Find some way
13:22To discourage our friend
13:23Across the street
13:24Well, that would be
13:27A pleasure
13:27Meantime, I'll ride out
13:28To the sheriffs
13:29And put on a big act
13:30About these outrageous killings
13:32Mm-hmm
13:33Mm-hmm
14:34Hold on.
14:39Hold on.
14:41Hold on.
14:53No!
14:54No!
14:55Oh!
14:56Oh!
14:57Oh!
14:58Oh!
14:59Oh!
15:00Oh!
15:01Oh!
15:02Oh!
15:03Oh!
15:08Oh!
15:10Oh!
15:11Oh!
15:12Oh!
15:13Oh!
15:14Oh!
15:15Oh!
15:16The doc gave me permission to talk with the sheriff again,
15:43but it wasn't much use.
15:45He was suffering from a severe concussion and only came to now and then
15:49Once in a while he'd open his eyes and smile a little and I knew he recognized me
15:55I was glad that he at least knew I was on the job
16:15I was on the job
16:45I was on the job
17:15I mean there's a couple of big bozos over there too
17:36Soon as he dismounted red told me what had happened to him in stone valley
17:40He was hopping mad and wanted my permission to return and shoot it out with his tormentors
17:45I couldn't blame him
17:46But we had more important things to consider
17:49I told him about the raiders and their killing sheriff barton
17:52Just then we heard hoofbeats
17:54I was down the road I heard shots coming from this direction
18:04And I saw four men riding away
18:06Well we did ask some visitors
18:08Did you get a look at any of them?
18:09I wasn't close enough
18:10They killed the sheriff didn't they?
18:12Uh, they tried to kill him
18:15I'm going after those men
18:17I'd like you to go with me
18:18Oh, of course
18:20I'll go with you
18:21See here, Hoppy
18:22You just told me
18:23I told you to stay here and guard the sheriff
18:25Can't you get that through that big thick skull of yours?
18:28I'll go in and tell him you're going to be here to take care of him
18:30Robert's words were a tip-off
18:32And I began putting two and two together
18:34How did he know that the sheriff was the target of the men riding away?
18:39And why was he sure the sheriff had been killed?
18:42But I knew my suspicion was no good without proof
18:45Red
18:47Come here
18:49Did you see the sheriff?
18:55Who, me?
18:57I just got here
18:58Here comes Hoppy
19:01Well, don't stand there like an idiot
19:09Get in the house
19:10Come on, Robert
19:17I'm darned if I understand, Hoppy
19:23First he tells me the sheriff's dead
19:25And then he
19:25I'm loving it
19:34You are the one
19:34You are the one
19:34You think he could try
19:36And then he
19:39ìą
et
19:43You're the one
19:44You've got its fire
19:46I'm so white
19:46I'm so white
19:47You'reăă
19:48You're fine
19:49I'm so white
19:50But once you hold
19:52When you talk like that
19:54Or is he
19:55Sheriff.
20:09Get the rangers and ride to Robert's range.
20:12Hurry, Poppy.
20:19We're going the wrong way.
20:20See those tracks?
20:24Your ranch is down this way, isn't it?
20:26Yeah.
20:27That's where we're heading.
20:28What's the meaning of this?
20:30We'll talk about that when we get there.
20:32Get going.
20:33Well, you must be out of your mind.
20:35If you're not going to try to capture those killers, I will.
20:37Robert!
20:38I said we were heading to your ranch.
20:40Now get going.
20:50Would you mind telling me what this is all about?
21:08Sit down.
21:20Well, the Association's been good to you.
21:31No danger of you being starved out.
21:34Those are mine.
21:35I can prove it.
21:36I bought those supplies when the Association first started to give trouble to the ranchers.
21:39You'll have plenty of time for alibis later.
21:50Well, this letter from the government is very interesting.
22:13I can explain that.
22:15You should have explained to your friends the ranchers that the government was buying up land in Stone Valley for a cavalry post.
22:22You and I have taken a ride to the county seat.
22:24I got all the evidence I need.
22:26You won't get away with this, Cassidy.
22:28My man will be here soon.
22:30You mean your hired killers?
22:32That's fine.
22:33I got a score to settle with them, too.
22:38All right, Cassidy.
22:39Now is your chance.
22:41Get rid of them.
22:45In here, men.
22:46Cassidy!
23:15Oh, my God.
23:45A little late, huh?
23:51No, you were just in time.
23:53Drag him out of here.
24:00Hey, wait a minute.
24:02Gentlemen, the government wants land here in Stone Valley to build a cavalry post.
24:07They're not grabbing your ranches.
24:09Anyone who wants to sell can sell.
24:11If you don't want to, you don't have to.
24:16Well, Red, you got a nice store here.
24:18You're going to make a great storekeeper.
24:20Good luck to you.
24:27So long and good luck.
24:31Here you are, partner.
24:32The dirt store is yours.
24:33Hoppy, wait.
24:36I'm coming.
24:40Change your mind, huh?
24:41Go on.
24:42Hi, there.
24:50Did you hear what the man said?
24:52I did, and I agree with every word of it.
24:55If you buy his product, I'm sure you'll like it, and it'll tickle my sponsor to death.
25:00Now, a thought for my little partners.
25:03Be happy and proud that you're an American.
25:05Remember, there are millions of little boys and girls all over the world that'll give anything for that privilege.
25:12Until next week, so long and good luck to you.
25:14There he goes, on his way, down the moon, the trail to where Cowboy's Ray.
25:25Hop along, Cassidy.
25:29Hop along, Cassidy.
25:31He'll return soon again.
25:35There's no use to say goodbye until then.
25:40Hop along, Cassidy.
25:43So long, hop along.
