Egypt's koshary is inscribed on UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage

The popular, low-cost dish, consisting mostly of rice, lentils, pasta and fried onions, is the 11th item inscribed on the list under Egypt's name.

00:21is usually served in restaurants, family homes, but also as a street food.
00:26Now, it just made it onto the UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
00:34The UNESCO recognized the dish for its role in social cohesion,
00:39as it is enjoyed by people from all walks of life and across the country,
00:44although regional varieties exist.
00:47The UN's cultural agency also noted its roots in tradition and its simplicity.
00:53Kosheri is the first Egyptian dish to be included on the list,
00:58although Egypt already has ten other non-culinary entries.
