00:30Canyon, Southern California, at an old friend's studio here, assembling the album experience,
00:37the soundtrack for the game Sleep Awake.
00:41I'm Robin Fink, co-founder and co-creative director at Eyes Out.
01:04I'm also a composer of the music for the game.
01:11Assembling the album from hundreds of game-score cues has been an enormous project for me.
01:29I've never done this before.
01:30My greatest creative challenge here is to create a listening experience that lives outside of the gameplay.
01:47That's asking a lot.
01:51The high level?
01:53Yeah.
01:53Not when it's whoop.
01:54You're not down by them?
01:55Even shorter?
01:56Yeah.
01:56But still retains a vibe and a flow of traveling through these narrative realms.
02:06All of these things relate to one another.
02:09It's a bit of a feedback loop, I think.
02:12Oh, Burning Sun needs guitar.
02:14Is there a part?
02:15Do you know how to play it?
02:15No, but it hasn't stopped me before.
02:21Let's take five and then we'll either come back and I'll start dealing with this or we'll find some other piece of music to ruin.
02:48A good bedside manner is key to a successful record production.
02:55I've scratched into every dark corner of music created for the game.
03:06It's panic-inducing and it's blissful.
03:10It's calculated and it's reckless.
03:13It's the sound of support through several years of game development in a world without sleep.
03:24And it's been my life.
03:25It's brutal.
03:38It's derniers.
03:42It's horrible.
