00:00Andy Dick, the comedian Andy Dick, a comedic actor, has been very visibly in Hollywood going through substance abuse issues for years.
00:10Almost 10 years, I would say.
00:12I think longer than 10 years.
00:13Maybe.
00:14And there have been friends who've tried to help him at times, but yesterday, things really got dire.
00:21In fact, life and death situation on the streets of Hollywood where Andy was, had apparently taken some drug and was completely unresponsive.
00:33What you're about to see is this video as one of his friends in the neighborhood is rolling by on a skateboard and watch what happens once they realize that Andy may be about to die.
00:45Andy, are you okay, buddy?
00:48Is he okay?
00:49Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey.
00:51Andy.
00:51Andy.
00:53Andy.
00:55Andy, buddy.
00:57Hey, Andy, Andy, wake up.
00:58Wake up.
00:59Wake up.
00:59What the, dude?
01:01I'm going to call the ambulance.
01:01Call the ambulance right now.
01:03Let me see his nose.
01:04Hey.
01:05Let me see his nose.
01:05Stop shaking.
01:06Give me a Narcan.
01:07Right here.
01:08Get a set up.
01:09You need to put it on the feet.
01:11No, wake him up right now.
01:12Wake him up.
01:13So the individual there on the right in the blue bonnet, you heard him say, give him the Narcan.
01:17What we're told by witnesses and also from law enforcement is he did actually get Narcan administered to him.
01:25And it appears that that man actually had Narcan with him.
01:28You find that a little odd he happened to have it?
01:30That he happened to have it?
01:31Yeah.
01:31I don't know this neighborhood.
01:33I don't know how prevalent drug use is in this neighborhood, but that may be-
01:38It's interesting.
01:40That he happened to have-
01:40That he actually had an Narcan with him.
01:42Yeah, and it saved his life.
01:43Right.
01:44And it did save his life.
01:45And we've spoken to several people in this neighborhood.
01:47It's not far from like the Hollywood and Highland Center, which is a huge tourist attraction here in L.A.
01:51And people that we've spoken to said over the last like three to four months, they've seen Andy on the streets in this neighborhood.
01:58Now, whether he's living in a house or an apartment over there is unclear, but they've seen him on the streets walking around with a similar group of people.
02:06And he never really looks that well.
02:08One of our producers in New York spoke to a family member just a couple minutes ago who said they're doing whatever they can to get him help.
02:15I don't know if that's totally believable in the sense that we know that Andy's been struggling for so many years.
02:20Well, they can be trying to help him if he doesn't want it.
02:22And unless he wants it, it's almost useless.
02:25I mean, it is, you know, there's this thing where they talk about in recovery that you have to hit rock bottom.
02:34Andy's hit rock bottom over and over again.
02:37Over and over.
02:38But that hasn't happened.
02:39And it is one of the saddest stories we've come to in 20 years.
02:43What I thought as I, once we saw this video, I just felt like we're seeing it this time, but especially Brendan, you told us that people have seen him in this condition.
02:52How many times?
02:53How many times has this happened in recent times over the years?
02:57Well, and I will tell you, when we first watched this video last night and you see him go back and he doesn't come forward in the video cuts, you're thinking the worst.
03:05And then when I had spoken to the spokesperson over at the fire department, they said, and there was no transport.
03:10And I thought, well, that's not good.
03:12However, they explained it to me as if Narcan is administered at the scene, you usually regain consciousness after a few minutes.
03:21And a lot of these people that are drug users, they don't want to seek further treatment.
03:26So they just go on their way.
03:28There's no transport as long as they regain consciousness after the Narcan.
03:31Well, remember, with Prince, they did take him to the hospital.
03:34Remember, because there was a whole thing about that.
03:36That was also a long time ago.
03:37To Brendan's point, I think what he's saying is that paramedics have become so used to this.
03:44It's become so prevalent, sadly.
03:46If you're revived, you're fine.
03:47Right.
03:48Right.
