00:00Why do I think giraffes are cool?
00:06Well, look at them.
00:07They have this unique long neck,
00:10this really cool coat pattern,
00:11and then they have these fuzzy little horns
00:14that we call ossicones.
00:23Hi, my name's David O'Connor,
00:25and I'm a giraffe researcher
00:26with San Diego Zoo Global.
00:28Today, I'm in Namanyuk,
00:29which is in northern Kenya in Africa.
00:31We're in Sarara Camp,
00:32where they're looking after three young giraffes.
00:38A group of giraffe is called a tower,
00:40so let me introduce you to this tower.
00:44First off is Twigs.
00:45She's the oldest of the three.
00:47Twiga in the Swahili language means giraffe.
00:51Being the oldest giraffe in the tower
00:52means she has to be a good role model
00:54for the rest of the group.
00:55This is Mara.
01:00She's the next oldest in the tower.
01:02Mara translates to spotted
01:03in the Ma language.
01:07When Mara first arrived at Sarara Camp,
01:09she was in rough shape.
01:11Her ear had been badly injured,
01:12but the staff here took great care of her,
01:15and now she's all healed up.
01:16This is the youngest of the three giraffe.
01:21She's so new to Sarara Camp
01:23that she doesn't even have a name yet.
01:25What do you think her name should be?
01:27The giraffe have one main caretaker.
01:37His name is Lekupanai.
01:39Say hi, Lekupanai.
01:41So what?
01:44Lekupanai has a great relationship
01:46with the three young giraffe.
01:50Every day, each giraffe gets a bottle of milk,
01:53and boy, do they love their milk.
01:55Just look at them go.
01:56They're so eager.
01:58Lekupanai can barely stay standing.
02:02Gotta get every last drop.
02:10Hey!
02:10Try to get some milk in your mouth next time.
02:12Oh boy, it's Lekupanai.
02:20Maybe he has some milk for us.
02:21Let's see.
02:23Nope.
02:24Guess not.
02:25I'll catch you later, though.
02:34After they have their bottles,
02:35it's time to go out and roam
02:36the vast landscape of Namanyuk.
02:38During this time,
02:40they can figure out
02:41how to forage for food
02:42and learn what it takes
02:43to be a wild giraffe.
02:45After a long day,
03:05it's time for these young giraffe
03:07to go to their stables
03:08and get some sleep.
03:11They'll need their rest
03:13because tomorrow will be another day
03:15full of adventure.
03:16and the best day
03:17will be another day
03:18will be another day
03:18and for the next day
03:18will be one day
03:19for the next day.
03:20The next day
03:20is a great season
03:21in the summer.
03:21The next day
03:23is the first year
03:24of the Winter
