00:00Temperatures are dropping and we are in the middle of the season where everyone begins to get sick.
00:05There are a variety of respiratory illnesses going around, like the flu, COVID, and RSV, as we spend more time indoors.
00:13There has reportedly also been an uptick in a persistent cough that doctors say does not fall in any of these categories.
00:20Baltimore doctor Janet O. Mahoney told the Huffington Post that these lingering coughs may be, quote,
00:25purely viral and, quote, caused by the regular viruses that cause colds like rhinovirus.
00:32Another doctor told the site that a persistent cough is most likely due to prolonged inflammation in the airways,
00:38which can last anywhere from two weeks to two months after initially getting sick.
00:43Experts say it could also be sinus congestion, a sore throat, and post-nasal drip.
00:49If your symptoms persist for a couple weeks, doctors say it's important to continue to follow up with your physician.
