Currently opening for Nina Nesbitt, songwriter turned pop singer Plested discusses his debut album 'First & Foremost.'
Transcript
00:00Because I'll kind of change the set list depending on how I'm feeling, and I think that's the perfect time to do it.
00:05Ten minutes before you go on, what do you want to sing? I'll write them all down.
00:10Singer-songwriter on the rise Phil Plestid got his start penning tracks for the likes of Kygo, The Vamps, Little Mix, to name just a few,
00:17but is now making strides and filling up rooms as a solo artist.
00:21During his U.S. tour with Nina Nesbitt, he stopped by our studio to detail how he got his start in the very song that inspired his solo venture. Check it out.
00:29There was an artist called James Morrison, and when I heard his music, because he's like a singer-songwriter like me,
00:34that was the first time that I realised a guy could just pick up a guitar and sing and get emotional and connect with people.
00:41And I was kind of like, I really want to do that, you know?
00:43So then I just started learning. I think I learnt Drops of Jupiter by Train.
00:48That was like the first song that I learnt to sing and play at the same time.
00:50And I was just like, yeah, I love it. I just couldn't stop.
00:53When I wrote a song called Least That I Could Do, I remember writing it and just being like,
00:58I don't want anyone else to sing this.
01:00You know, when it's just a little bit too personal and you kind of just want to hold on to it.
01:05And that song's coming out in June, I believe, a little bit later in the year, but I'm super excited for it.
01:10And I think I had that song, a couple of others, and I was just like,
01:14I should just start playing these live and just see what happens, you know?
01:17And I did a few small little kind of support gigs and just pub gigs here and there.
01:22And the response was amazing.
01:24So I was like, okay, cool, let's do it, definitely.
01:27Catch Plusted on tour through April 15th.
