00:25Meta postpones AR glasses to 2027.
00:29Meta is reportedly releasing brand new mixed reality glasses, codenamed Phoenix.
00:35The company had initially planned to release the new device in the latter part of 2026.
00:39Maher Saba, VP of Reality Labs Foundation, sent a memo to employees pushing the date back
00:45to 2027.
00:47This comes as Google also prepares its Android XR glasses, which are based on the Android
00:52XR system.
00:53A prototype of the Google Android XR glasses was unveiled in May and has received a good
00:59critical response.
01:00While the Android XR glasses do not yet have a release date, they are also expected to
01:05debut soon.
01:06In a separate memo, Metaverse leaders Gabriel All and Ryan Cairns said that moving the release
01:10date back would give them some breathing room.
01:13It would also reportedly allow them to get the details right.
01:16There's a lot coming in hot with tight bring-up schedules and big changes to our core UX and
01:21we won't compromise on landing a fully polished and reliable experience, they added in the
01:26memo.
01:27The Phoenix glasses were originally confirmed by the information.
01:31They claimed that the glasses had a goggle-like form factor and were connected to a puck to help
01:35power them.
01:37Employees working on the project were unsurprisingly not allowed to talk about it.
01:41Saba said in the memo that in a recent meeting with CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the Reality Labs leaders
01:46received feedback on the device.
01:49He said that their plans focused on making the business sustainable and taking extra time
01:54to deliver our experiences with higher quality.
01:57He further added, Based on that, many teams in RL will need to adjust their plans and timelines.
02:03Extending timelines is not an opportunity for us to add more features or take on additional
02:08work.
02:09Meta also plans to release a limited edition wearable device codenamed Malibu 2 in 2026.
02:16More details about the Meta Mixed Reality glasses are expected to arrive soon.
