CHEEKY NEW ZEALAND KEA GIVE DRIVER A WELCOMING INSPECTION
WITH VID
By Natalie Absalom
Watch the hilarious moment two cheeky New Zealand kea conduct what looks like a full roadworthiness inspection on a tour van outside the Homer Tunnel in Fiordland.
Natalie Absalom, a tour guide from New Zealand, filmed the encounter as one of the birds perched boldly on the van’s front bonnet while the other hopped onto the side mirror.
The clever alpine parrots peck, poke, and interact with Natalie as if checking her credentials before granting passage toward Milford Sound.
Known for their intelligence and mischief, the kea earned their reputation once again in this playful roadside stop, which Natalie jokingly titled “The Homer Tunnel Welcoming Party.”
Natalie shared the clip online and said: “Two New Zealand Kea check my credentials and road worthiness of my tour van before I am allowed to drive through the Homer Tunnel and on to Milford Sound.”
