00:00This has not been a good road trip for the Dodgers losing two of three in Philadelphia losing the first two games to the Nationals but a chance to have a good feeling leaving here hopping on that plane. Yeah get a win this afternoon and get back on the bird get back to some warm weather in LA. It just hasn't been good baseball and it's been a little bit of everything. Starting pitching hasn't been great the fielding hasn't been great. Haven't hit with runners in scoring position. It's just it's bad baseball right now and that's going to happen during the course of the season.
00:27Shohei Ohtani getting ready to step in against Jake Irvin. Third star on the year 5-4 ERA 10 innings 1-2 whip. Great with the walks. Shohei Ohtani has done his thing in this series. Four for nine. No other Dodger more than two hits against Nets pitching. That's a base hit to open the game. Ohtani with a BB into right field and just like that extends his on-base streak to 29 games back to last year. Betts has a walk and the Dodgers have
00:56two aboard. So the Dodgers have set up shop first and second and nobody out. Down the line and a fair ball and a fast start for the Dodgers that they've been looking for.
01:07Ohtani's in to score. Betts trying to score as well. He'll will easily as Edmond streaks into third. A two-run triple and a two-to-nothing lead in the blink of an eye.
01:17The Dodgers have really been lacking with hits with runners in scoring position on this trip as well. Just hitting 182. But for Tommy Edmond, first opportunity to knock in runs today. Quickly, the Dodgers out in front.
01:30When the Dodgers score first, their record's 3-1 so far in the early part of the season. And now Teoscar Hernandez.
01:38Flied to left center field. Back goes Wood. Carrying pretty well. And gone! Just enough to get it out of here. How about this start for the Dodgers? Four runs before there's an owl.
01:50Four batters up. Four runners have scored. Fifth home run for Hernandez. His 15th RBI now.
01:57And here is Landon Knack for his first start of the season. What a trip this has been for him. Goes to the White House. He gets his World Series ring.
02:05And now the 27-year-old from Tennessee makes his first start.
02:09He made his big league debut against C.J. Abrams and the J.A. Abrams and the Nationals last April 17th at Dodger Stadium. And Abrams hit a home run against him.
02:17Abrams hacks one down the line. High, deep, C.U. Later.
02:23He's got a knack against this guy. And the Nats are on the board. Dodgers, four Nationals, one. Homer number four this season for Abrams.
02:33Lead off Homer number two and number nine in his career. There was not much doubt about it.
02:38Ball four. He's loaded the bases. The tying run is at first.
02:42Josh Bell's coming up.
02:43The Nats have not had a lot of chances so far with the bases loaded. They are two out of four.
02:49Chopper.
02:50He's going to get the Nats a run.
02:53And three runners will move ahead.
02:55Just a little chop by Josh Bell for RBI number four. But a very productive out.
03:01Luis Garcia steps into the left-handed batter's box. Runners at second and third one away.
03:06And Garcia well hit to center. A step in then over for Pajes. And the Nats have made this a one-run game after six batters.
03:16Three on the board. It's Los Angeles four. The Nationals three.
03:21Third walk of the inning.
03:23Forty pitches for Landon Mack and only 19 strikes. Twenty-one balls.
03:28Pulls one to short. Speared by Betts from the outfield grass. As nice of a play as he's made it short.
03:36Mookie Betts on a screamer of a one-hopper just to get there was fantastic.
03:42And then shows off the arm from the outfield grass.
03:46Ohtani's going to walk. That'll get some booze from the fans over on the third base side.
03:50Two-out walk will bring in Mookie Betts.
03:54Hot shot to short. Flip to Garcia and the inning over.
03:57So Irvin pitches around the walk to Ohtani and puts up a scoreless frame at the top of the second.
04:02Landon Mack gets the inning that he needed.
04:05One-two-three with two punch-outs.
04:07We go to the third in D.C. It's the Dodgers four. Nationals three.
04:12Edmond back to second base.
04:13Two men out in the top half of the third inning.
04:16Forto is gone and now Will Smith will come up.
04:18Irvin delivers. Swing and a fly ball.
04:21Shallow left center. Cruz coming on.
04:23He's there and Dylan Cruz puts it away.
04:26And the inning is over.
04:27Jake Irvin pitches around the leadoff.
04:30Single by Edmond. He's left at second.
04:32And so another walk issued here by Landon Mack.
04:35He issued three in the first inning.
04:37He had a one-two-three second.
04:38Now he's walked Lowell with one out.
04:40Brings up.
04:41Josh Bell picked up an RBI with a weak tapper up the first baseline.
04:45Well, that makes a loud sound in the right.
04:48Lowell had to hold up.
04:49Make sure that ball was in front of him.
04:51And the Nats have back-to-back runners here.
04:54Tying run. Scoring position.
04:56Luis Garcia next.
04:57Garcia trying to plug the gap in right center.
05:01This is at least going to get the Nats even.
05:04Lowell home.
05:05Bell to third.
05:07We've got a brand new ball game.
05:09And the Nats are in business here in the third.
05:11And that is going to do it.
05:13Runners at second and third.
05:14His responsibility as well.
05:16And a long day coming for the bullpen.
05:18Jack Dreyer's on to pitch.
05:20Alex Calls the hitter.
05:22And Alex Call will lift one out to left center.
05:25And that will be deep enough for Josh to score.
05:28And give the Nats the lead.
05:31How about this?
05:32After giving up four in the first.
05:34Strikes out Muncy on three pitches.
05:37Irvin has his second strikeout.
05:39And it is a one-out walk to Hernandez here in the fourth.
05:42Irvin kicks and fires.
05:44Called strike again with a fastball.
05:47And he is out on three pitches.
05:49Fourth strikeout for Jake Irvin.
05:51So here's Zoltani.
05:52Breaking ball of beauty.
05:53Jake Irvin spinning.
05:56Really one of the best ones of his career.
05:58Two-out walk issued to James Wood.
06:00Second time he has reached on a free pass.
06:04Swung on ground.
06:05Ball to third.
06:06Muncy's got it.
06:06Goes the short way to second.
06:08Edmund there.
06:08And that's the force out.
06:10That retires the side.
06:11One man left for the Nationals.
06:13We head to the fifth.
06:14And the Dodgers go in order in the fifth.
06:16So Jake Irvin, after giving up four runs, four batters in,
06:19tosses four scoreless innings and gets through five.
06:22Anthony Banda comes out of the Dodger bullpen.
06:26Five-four.
06:27Nationals in front.
06:28Clips this ball into center field.
06:30Pahez coming on.
06:31He will get there.
06:33Andy Pahez.
06:34A sliding grab.
06:36And a sprint in from center field straight towards second base.
06:39And the side retired in order in the fifth.
06:43On to the sixth inning at Nationals Park.
06:45It's the Nats five.
06:46Dodgers four.
06:48Sixth inning.
06:48Jake Irvin to face Michael Conforto.
06:50Nationals five.
06:51Dodgers four.
06:53Swing.
06:54And a foul tip into the strikeout.
06:56K-Beart held on.
06:57And that's number six.
06:59Two gone.
06:59The six.
07:00Swing and a miss by Muncy.
07:02He's down on the curveball.
07:04And the inning is over.
07:05What a finish by Jake Irvin.
07:07Really after those first four batters in the first inning.
07:10What a job he has done.
07:12Call.
07:12DeYoung and Cruz.
07:14And on the mound an interesting story in Kirby Yates.
07:17Great arm added to this Dodger bullpen.
07:19Up the middle and he's got it.
07:22With some swag.
07:24Preservation but an out.
07:25That's the best way for it to happen.
07:27Two strikeouts for Kirby Yates in a one-two-three.
07:30Bottom of the sixth.
07:31We go to the seventh inning.
07:33And the seventh inning will belong to Eduardo Salazar coming out of the Nationals bullpen.
07:37Here's Andy Pajez.
07:39Shohei Ohtani on deck.
07:41Leans out.
07:42Lifts a fly ball to left field.
07:44Woods going back.
07:45He's at the wall.
07:46And this game is tied.
07:49Andy Pajez finds the seats for the second day in a row.
07:535-5 in the seventh.
07:56Ohtani was burning it down the line.
07:57Luis knew he had to be in a hurry.
07:59And we'll see how they score it.
08:00And so Ohtani has reached for the third time today.
08:04There goes Ohtani.
08:05Got a great jump.
08:06And Ruiz won't even bother.
08:08No question.
08:09Stole that off of Salazar.
08:11Go ahead.
08:11Run and score in position.
08:14Bounce it a second.
08:15Garcia's got this one cleanly.
08:17Snaps on the throw.
08:18For out number two.
08:19And Edmond draws the walk.
08:21And the Dodgers have runners at the corners for Teoscar Hernandez.
08:24Crack bat flare.
08:27And the Dodgers take the lead.
08:30Teoscar Hernandez, as he so often does, comes through on an 0-2 pitch.
08:37Breaks his bat on a base hit to right field to score Ohtani.
08:41Tanner Scott for the bottom of the seventh inning.
08:43Coming off a one-of-a-kind type save.
08:46It was the first three-pitch save since Mariano Rivera in 2003.
08:51Woods down on strike.
08:54Scott gets a fastball by him.
08:55Two gone.
08:57Got him.
08:58Three up and three down.
08:59Two punch-outs for Tanner Scott.
09:01We go to the eighth.
09:02Alex Vestia trying to get it a step closer and trying to continue.
09:05It's been remarkable work from the bullpen today.
09:08Oh, what a take.
09:09And he lost him.
09:11Bell draws the walk.
09:12And the Nationals have their first base runner since the fourth inning.
09:15And Davey Martinez is going to pull the trigger, not on a pinch runner.
09:17Actually, he's going to do both.
09:19He's going to pinch run and pinch hit.
09:20Not running.
09:22Swing and a miss.
09:24Two out.
09:25Oh, Rosario flailing at anything he was throwing up there.
09:28One and two on call.
09:30Vestia throws to first.
09:32They've got Young.
09:33And there's the inning.
09:35First base runner that they catch this year.
09:38One, three, four.
09:40And that's how the eighth inning ends.
09:42Two gone in this ninth inning.
09:45Betts pokes this one to right field.
09:47Call will play it in a bounce.
09:49And Mookie's on for the second time.
09:53Pitch is way inside.
09:55And that was so far inside it hit Edmond.
09:58And Edmond is getting first base.
09:59Mookie's heading down to second.
10:01Sim sets and delivers.
10:03Swing and a ground ball softly hit to third.
10:04DeYoung has it.
10:05He'll throw to second for the force out to end the inning.
10:07We go to the bottom of the ninth.
10:08Three outs to get.
10:09Blake Trinan coming on to get him.
10:11The score of the Dodgers, six.
10:13Nationals, five.
10:14Tying run at second.
10:15Winning run at first.
10:17And you've got the top of the order up.
10:19And C.J. Abrams will bat left-handed.
10:22And then another talented lefty, James Wood, on deck behind him.
10:26Bouncing ball.
10:27Diving step by Hernandez.
10:29And he gets the out at second.
10:32What a play by Kike.
10:33They force out Dylan Cruz.
10:37Safe at first is Abram.
10:38And advancing to third is DeYoung.
10:40But now the Nationals are down to their last out.
10:43And so it all comes down to James Wood.
10:46Somewhat fitting that the guy that has stolen the stage all week is at the plate with two gone in the ninth.
10:54How aggressive are they with first base now open.
10:57They come after him.
10:59He bounces it to second.
11:00And there's the ball game.
11:02Blake Trinan and the Dodgers escape.
11:05And they escape D.C. with a win.
11:07Avoiding the sweep with a 6-5 victory today.
