00:00Drew Smiley as B.J. said a moment ago unbeaten in his last 11 starts and with a left hand around the mound a couple of primary offensive players Nick Green are out of the starting nine for David Bell tonight. Yeah you know Drew Smiley's got to take advantage that his last three starts haven't been real good his last start went four innings against St. Louis 75 pitches a few too many pitches the first inning really hurt him but I thought things got better as the game went on and hopefully today he builds up those last three innings from his last start.
00:28Slow slower slowest is down on strikes two up two down for Drew Smiley Drew set him up really good with a fastball up in his own and we see strike three right there Castellanos didn't think much of that call back to back strikeouts for Drew Smiley he retires the Reds in order and the Braves are coming up no score tonight though guys they run into a veteran Sonny Gray the pride of Vanderbilt he's looking for his fifth victory of the year Nick.
00:53Yeah those numbers are a little bit deceiving as B.J. said his last four starts have not been good 19 innings 25 hits still has that strikeout stuff but runners and score vision have been a problem for him he's a sinker guy four seam curveball and slider has four plus pitches.
01:09Broken bat little pop in his shallow left Aquino coming on won't get there.
01:14Soler big and strong has a broken bad hit and the Braves have a threat here in the bottom of the first inning.
01:20This is why he's so good because he's so big and strong.
01:25United to Stevenson's glove.
01:27Sonny Gray's first K and he works around the Soler leader.
01:32Scoreless.
01:36Votto to right field.
01:38Over Soler's head kicks off the wall.
01:41Bad route to it.
01:42Votto easily jogs up to second with a double.
01:45Now he's at second for Aristides Aquino.
01:49Aristides Aquino booms one to deep left center field.
01:53Gone.
01:55The Punisher pops a two run homer and the Reds have the lead two to nothing.
02:02Duvall a chance to tie it up with a home run.
02:06Swing and a high fly ball deep left field.
02:09Did he get enough?
02:09He gets Aquino to the wall and a tie 2-2.
02:15This is so Adam Duvall.
02:18With a man on base, he is just a different hitter.
02:24In the air toward right center field.
02:26Can anybody catch up?
02:28John Peterson can.
02:31Off the bat, I thought that was headed for the gap without problem,
02:34but it hung up for Peterson who made a tumbling catch for out number one.
02:38And I don't know whether he thought it was more than right field,
02:42but great effort here.
02:44Shallow center.
02:45Akiyama coming on.
02:47Slides and makes the catch.
02:49Akiyama has had some very strong glove work for the Reds in center field of them.
02:57And he'll lead off the Atlanta 6th against him.
02:59Brady greets him with a first pitch single.
03:01So one thing for sure will jettison a club's hopes for making postseason play,
03:08and that is an offense that feels like it has to win the game two or three times a night.
03:14Great hitters count.
03:15Three balls and a strike.
03:16And nowhere near.
03:18Rays have gotten two locks from the Reds in the inning.
03:22The bases are loaded.
03:24And Steven Vogt is coming up.
03:2624,000 plus roaring with a 3-2 pitch.
03:29He missed.
03:31And the Braves lead on a bases loaded free pass.
03:36Three walks in the inning.
03:40That's a terrific at-bat right there by Steven Vogt.
03:43Getting behind 0-2.
03:45Yet being patient.
03:47He did and slowly rolls it out toward Votto, who's got it.
03:53Sessa throws one pitch and gets the Reds out of a giant mess.
03:57The Reds walk three, give up a hit, but Atlanta takes the lead.
04:013-2 as we head to the seventh.
04:04He has that zone.
04:05Whistled inside the bag fair.
04:09That's going to be an extra base hit.
04:11Solaire around first.
04:13Aquino rips it back to the infield.
04:16And the Braves in business.
04:17Solaire has his second hit.
04:19He's been on base three more times tonight.
04:25Up the middle.
04:26India.
04:26That makes the throw.
04:30And Sessa keeps it a one-run game.
04:34Rodriguez pitched in just three games, covering two and a third innings with Pittsburgh.
04:40Line to short.
04:42Snap throw back to first.
04:43They got it!
04:45Naquin wandering too far off the bag.
04:49It's a double play.
04:52For the moment, that will end the inning.
04:54Almost certainly, you figure the Reds will take a look.
04:57And the rule, of course, is there has to be clear and convincing evidence.
05:01Greg Gibson's the man at first that made the call.
05:04Verdict is in.
05:05And the batter runner is safe.
05:10Jerry Davis, the crew chief, made the call.
05:12So the Reds challenge.
05:15And do so successfully.
05:20Castellanos left field.
05:21Down, splashes down in front of Duvall.
05:25Naik went up to second base.
05:27Tying run in scoring position.
05:30Mancic ready is 1-2.
05:32Struck him out.
05:34They've got him twice with that high fastball.
05:37No argument from Votto, just a shake of his head.
05:40And Mancic comes in and puts out a Cincinnati rally in the eighth inning.
05:46Wow, the reach by Vogt and the Braves got the call.
05:49Well, thank you very much, 3-2 Atlanta.
05:52It's 3-2 Atlanta.
05:53We go to the top of the ninth inning.
05:55Will Smith is on for the Braves.
05:57He will face the 5, 6, and 7 hitters for the Cincinnati Reds.
06:02Will's had a very solid year, 22 out of 25 in saves.
06:06Rough outing last time out.
06:08So, you know, fellas, he's happy to get back on the beam tonight in game one.
06:14Farmer opposite way.
06:16Goes gapping.
06:17Down and all the way to the wall.
06:20Farmer up to second base.
06:21The tying run is in scoring position as Farmer in a homecoming doubles in the ninth.
06:28Left, right, at third base with Suarez and Boustakis.
06:34Another pail.
06:36Up and away.
06:37And Suarez walks.
06:42This is about as animated as we've seen a year of Suarez in a long time.
06:46And both of those have come after bases on balls.
06:50The 0-2 pitch.
06:53On the ground.
06:54Freddie's got it.
06:55There's one.
06:56The throw to first.
06:57It is in time.
06:58It's a double play.
07:00And the Braves have won game one.
07:05Excellent play by Freddie Freeman.
07:08Throwing to the outside.
07:09Making sure to get Suarez in the back.
07:12Easy double play to end this ball game.
07:15Just what the doctor ordered, Nick.
07:17Hey.
07:22I'm sorry.
07:23I got to say back in this.
07:25Hey.
07:26It's a zgly.
07:27Cause we need to get your
07:402 back to the party.
07:41I'm afraid to hangout the pass in.
