00:00ESPN welcomes you to the following presentation of the National Football League.
00:10We welcome you back and get set for kickoff here tonight.
00:13Nick Sirianni, a fantastic start as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in season number five there and first in the NFC East.
00:21And Jim Harbaugh, year number two in charge of the Chargers, his team in second place in the AFC West.
00:28Chargers won the toss. They defer. Eagles on offense to start the night.
00:35It'll pop up kick and Britton Covey's second game of the season gets hit hard.
00:41After crossing the 30, Delshawn Phillips got him in a return of 23 yards.
00:47So here comes Jalen Hurts. He's got 19 passing touchdowns, two interceptions, 27 total touchdowns.
00:55And we'll see, Troy, how they want to establish themselves offensively right out of the gate tonight.
01:01Yeah, I would imagine coming into this game based on the fact they're playing the Chargers and what Jesse Minner, their defensive coordinator, likes to do.
01:07And that is not give up the big play. They're as good as any defense in football not allowing that.
01:13And so trying to establish the running game and get it going, and it's a broken record for these Eagles.
01:20It's what they'd like to be able to do each and every week.
01:23That was Barkley in motion.
01:26Hurts can't find anywhere to go with it until now.
01:28He's got Brown downfield!
01:31Off his hands and incomplete.
01:32They had a chance for a big strike to start the night with Tarheem still in coverage.
01:40It was there. They couldn't connect.
01:42Well, it's great protection.
01:43As you see, Jalen Hurts, he has all day in the pocket, and it's just A.J. Brown.
01:47He's just trying to give his quarterback a place to go with the football.
01:50He ran the original route, ball didn't come out.
01:53Everybody was covered up, and they had an opportunity for a big play right out of the gate.
01:58That's a drop by A.J. Brown, the three-time Pro Bowl receiver, second and ten.
02:11Barkley gets it. Nowhere to go.
02:14He got a yard. That's it.
02:16And we'll take a look at this Eagles offensive lineup.
02:20Their offensive line is without future Hall of Fame tackle Lane Johnson.
02:25And they've been dealing with injuries on the inside, but they're all playing.
02:29Dickerson, Juergens, and Steen.
02:32The backs and receivers good on the outside.
02:35And now facing a third down and nine.
02:40Kevin Petulo, offensive coordinator.
02:43Been under fire for his play calling.
02:46What does he have on third line?
02:47Quick throw.
02:57Got it.
02:58The catch and the first down.
03:01Eagles get the fresh set of downs on a gain of nine.
03:05They needed nine.
03:06Dayon Henley on the stop.
03:08Yeah, this is a big first down.
03:10To come out of the gate, the first drive, and not go three and out
03:14after the missed opportunity on the first play.
03:16And Dallas Goddard does an excellent job just coming off the ball,
03:19free release, and giving his quarterback a place to go with the football.
03:22Here's Barkley.
03:23Not much there.
03:2631%.
03:27That's their three and out percentage.
03:29That's the highest in the league on offense for the Eagles.
03:33The defense trying to slow the Philly offense down.
03:35There's their group up front.
03:37The linebackers highlighted by Tui Pelotu and Khalil Mack.
03:41And the all-world safety Derwin James on the back end.
03:45He plays everywhere.
03:49Bigsby in the ball game.
03:51Hurts out to his left.
03:53Able to complete it to Jahan Dotson.
03:56Third down coming up.
03:57The way this defense plays, Joe, as I've mentioned,
03:59they're going to keep everything in front of them.
04:01And they're really good at it.
04:03And so, these are the types of throws that you've got to be willing to take.
04:07You're going to get a lot of those.
04:09And you've got to take them.
04:10Now, going back to that third down conversion,
04:12you come in here on the road.
04:14You've lost two in a row.
04:15You're struggling.
04:15You're trying to find yourselves offensively.
04:18Man, it would have been demoralizing to go three and out to open up this ball game.
04:22So, that's big.
04:23This is another one here.
04:24This is a defense that's so good on third down.
04:27They feel if they can force you to have about three or four of them in a drive,
04:31they're going to stop you in one of them.
04:35Third down and four.
04:37Good protection again.
04:38Time runs up.
04:39Down goes Hurts.
04:42Odafe, Owe got it.
04:45And a loss of nine.
04:46It's fourth down and sack.
04:49Number five for Owe.
04:55You see, as Hurts, he tries to bail out of the pocket,
04:58and it's hard to do when you've got pass rushers like they have.
05:02He had one open guy on the top and just was not looking his way.
05:07Otherwise, he could have come right out, thrown the football,
05:09and picked up a first down pretty easily.
05:11Graydon Mann will punt it.
05:14Low snap.
05:15End over end kick.
05:16Actually hit a spiral, and he hit it too good.
05:20Drove it into the end zone,
05:21and it'll be the opening possession for this Chargers offense.
05:25And Justin Herbert starting at their 20.
05:28Just underway Monday night.
05:30Justin Herbert has taped up that black pad on the back of his left hand.
05:41See his numbers for the year.
05:43He had surgery on Monday.
05:45He's been dealing with the swelling,
05:47and he will start this night in the shotgun.
05:53Taking snaps under center could be an issue tonight.
05:56He hands to Vidal, and Kamani on first down gets three.
06:02I had a chance to talk to Justin Herbert down on the field before the game
06:05and asked him that very thing as to whether or not he thought he would be able to take snaps
06:09from under center, and it was really more of a pain tolerance,
06:13and he wasn't quite sure, and that's what he was trying to figure out there in the pregame.
06:17Now, it's not an offense that has been under center a ton
06:21when you start comparing them to other teams around the league,
06:23but the play-action game when they were under center
06:27was a big part of it, and that obviously will get lost,
06:30but they go to the pistol formation, which brings back some of those run plays.
06:34And a quick throw.
06:35It is through the hands of Quentin Johnston on the outside
06:38with Adoree Jackson in coverage,
06:41and it'll be third down and seven.
06:44On that last play, Troy, we saw Omarion Hampton in the backfield.
06:48We'll see a lot of him.
06:49There's number eight in the background, the rookie from North Carolina,
06:53and this one, Johnston couldn't make the catch.
06:56It's a good week for him to come back.
06:57He's missed the last seven games.
07:00Omarion Hampton, the rookie, and he's an explosive guy,
07:03and so when you're going to be leaning on the run game
07:05even more than what you typically do,
07:08it's good to have him back in the fold.
07:11Vidal back in the backfield on third down,
07:14and Herbert is going to drop it to him.
07:17Big play.
07:19Vidal.
07:19In a foot race, Zach Vaughn knocks him out.
07:32Former sixth-round pick from Troy making his eighth start tonight,
07:37and Vidal goes 60.
07:39Well, he's looking for Ladd McConkie,
07:41but he collides then with Zach Vaughn,
07:43and as Herbert feels like his clock is running out,
07:47he does an excellent job of finding Vidal come out of the backfield
07:50across his vision and get him the football.
07:53There's a look at McConkie, number 15,
07:56where he initially was wanting to go with the ball,
07:58but just a great job of knowing where his outlet was to Vidal.
08:02And there's Herbert under center.
08:06He tosses to Hampton, a lot of room, left side.
08:09Sets up first and goal,
08:10so they get the 60-yard catch and run by Kamani Vidal.
08:15His longest touch in his two-year career,
08:18had a 59-yard rush last week in their win over the Raiders,
08:22and then they go back to Hampton.
08:24He gets 11, and it's first and goal from the sixth.
08:26Yeah, pretty nice when you're able to bring in the fullback.
08:29At least he's listed on the flip card as a fullback.
08:33He's really more offensive lineman.
08:34Scott Madlock, number 44.
08:36He's almost 300 pounds, and he was over there on the edge,
08:39which kind of sealed it for that run.
08:43Sinder, Sinder, Sip!
08:44Under center, no problem so far.
08:46Hampton cuts back and takes it inside the five.
08:50Nolan Smith
08:51made the stop a gain of two,
08:57and not only taking snaps under center,
09:01but also handing the ball off
09:03to a running back going to the right of the quarterback,
09:07and no issue so far.
09:09Yeah, that's encouraging to see
09:10because that's what we did not see last week.
09:12When he came back, he was still using his right hand
09:15even when he was making handoffs there to the left
09:18or to the right side.
09:20So that's encouraging.
09:21And for all the talk for Philadelphia
09:38about the offensive problems,
09:40this defense, it was carved up by the Bears on Black Friday.
09:47Just watch the Chargers go down the field
09:49and get in the end zone.
09:50Well, you watch Keenan Allen here, number 13.
09:52He kind of takes out two guys,
09:55and so a natural pick with Hampton then running to the flat.
09:59Pretty easy pickup.
10:01First touchdown catch for the rookie, Omarion Hampton.
10:04And an encouraging start for the Chargers.
10:10We've seen Herbert on her center.
10:12We've seen Herbert hand off to his right,
10:14and now we see him complete to Hampton.
10:17For the first points of the night, Chargers on top,
10:20Simmons.
10:21ESPN's Monday Night Football brought to you by Progressive.
10:28Get coverage you can count on with home and auto at Progressive.com.
10:32So far, get your money right.
10:35And Target, where game day meets the holidays.
10:38Earlier this week, outside linebacker for the Chargers,
10:42Khalil Mack, visited UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital.
10:46Spending his off day with hospital patients and staff.
10:50Nine-time Pro Bowler.
10:52Who missed some games with a nasty elbow injury is back.
10:58Missed weeks three through six,
11:01and good start for Justin Herbert and the Chargers.
11:04Eagles with their second possession of the ninths from the 35.
11:16And if you want to compare what's happening this year
11:19to what went on last year,
11:22they won it all.
11:23The Philadelphia Eagles did.
11:24They were second in rush yards per game.
11:27You see the numbers on the left,
11:28and then this season,
11:29it has taken a precipitous fall.
11:32Yeah, they just have not been able to get the big runs
11:35that they did last year.
11:37Now, you know, last year was a bit of an anomaly
11:40when you talk about how effective they were running the football
11:43the year that Saquon Barkley had.
11:45But it is a little mind-blowing that last year
11:49he averaged a 20-yard run every game.
11:53And this year, just two runs all season of 20 yards.
11:58It's hard to believe.
11:58His third carry able to get a big one here.
12:04Right on cue.
12:06Barkley over the left side.
12:07And a nice start to the possession for the Eagles
12:09as Saquon is able to get 19.
12:12Finally forced out by Tony Jefferson.
12:15Good start.
12:15Yeah, really good.
12:16The blocking up front by this offensive line is really good
12:20as they move up to the second level
12:22with left guard Landon Dickerson,
12:23and then A.J. Brown helping out as well.
12:25And when you evaluate the offensive line this year,
12:29it's not that they've been bad.
12:31They're still one of the better offensive lines in the league this season.
12:36It's just been a guy here, a guy there.
12:39It's not one thing, and that's why they've had such a hard time correcting it.
12:44But it was a nice run for Saquon Barkley there.
12:47Why not stick with him, they say.
12:49And why not do it again?
12:50Over the left side on back-to-back plays,
12:53and back-to-back first down carries, I believe.
12:57He's right at the line to gain,
13:00and they're going to give him a first down.
13:01Yeah, they come right back with it,
13:03and again, A.J. Brown out here doing a nice job helping out,
13:07and that's key,
13:08so that when Barkley then gets to the next level,
13:10he's got a chance to get out on the edge
13:13and have some running room.
13:14He hasn't had a lot of runs this year
13:17where he's had lanes like that to run in.
13:21Hurts out to his right,
13:24going to go flag on the play,
13:26and Hurts slides,
13:28umpire through the flag behind the play,
13:31and he will tell Scott Novak what the issue was.
13:36Holding.
13:37Offense number 56, that's a 10-yard penalty.
13:41Here's Tyler.
13:41It's Tyler Steen,
13:44who has taken over at right guard
13:46for Makai Becton,
13:47who's now with these Chargers.
13:49Yeah, and Tyler Steen,
13:50I know he got called there for the penalty on the hold.
13:53Take a look at it,
13:54but he's actually played well for them.
13:56Makai Becton, of course,
13:57as you mentioned, with the Chargers,
14:00he was outstanding last year
14:02when they moved him to right guard.
14:05But Tyler Steen,
14:06he's been a real positive
14:07guy for this offensive line,
14:11and replacing Makai Becton,
14:12but that sets him back after that last penalty.
14:17Had a hold of Deshaun Hand,
14:18and didn't let him go first and 20.
14:26They fake it, the Bixby,
14:28aired out.
14:29Smith.
14:31Overthrow.
14:33Cam Hart back there,
14:35stride for stride in coverage.
14:37It's second and 20.
14:38Yeah, as I mentioned,
14:40those are hard plays to hit
14:42on this secondary.
14:44I think it's a really good group.
14:46It's a well-coached group.
14:48Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator,
14:50he took over last year,
14:52came in with Jim Harbaugh
14:53when he became the head coach,
14:55and he's done an outstanding job.
14:57He did a great job for this group last year,
14:59and they're an even better group this year.
15:02He was with Jim in Michigan,
15:04and before that,
15:05he was with Jim's brother,
15:06John,
15:06with the Ravens.
15:08Second and 20.
15:10Delayed handoff.
15:11It's Barkley.
15:13Well, he's wearing out this left side.
15:16Breaking tackles,
15:17and takes it down inside the 40,
15:19where third and long is coming up
15:20after a game of nine.
15:21They're kind of hoping on second and long
15:25that maybe they could break a run
15:27and at least make this
15:29a little bit more manageable,
15:30still third and long.
15:33But you see some of the things
15:34that Saquon Barkley's capable of doing,
15:36and I know there's been suggestions
15:38that, well, he's a year older,
15:39and there's Jeff Stoutland,
15:41and he's been fantastic.
15:42He came in in 2013
15:43as the old line coach with Chip Kelly,
15:45and even with some other head coaches,
15:48he's remained at the post.
15:50Coaching that offensive line,
15:52he's as good as there is in the league.
15:57Third down and 12.
15:59Hurts over the middle.
16:00He's got Goddard.
16:01And Goddard is knocked down
16:03right at the marker,
16:05and it's a first down for Philly,
16:07so they overcome the hold,
16:08and they're able to get the first down.
16:10Well, here's Goddard,
16:11but you see in the middle here
16:12all the room,
16:13so all he has to do then
16:15is win coming off the line of scrimmage
16:17versus man coverage.
16:18And not anything real fancy on the route,
16:21but he's able to get inside
16:22and nobody to take that away,
16:24and so that's a lot of room to work,
16:27and that is, Joe,
16:28a great job by this offense
16:29overcoming that holding penalty
16:31to keep this drive alive.
16:33Goddard with two big third
16:34and long conversions.
16:37Only 10 catches his last four games combined
16:40at two against the Bears.
16:42Are they going to try to run Hurts more tonight?
16:45He lost a yard here.
16:47Yeah, that was a design quarterback keeper.
16:50You're going to pull the guard out
16:51and kind of lead the way,
16:53but just not much there,
16:54and Hurts had nowhere to go with it.
16:59The design runs are way down,
17:02just 3.6 this year
17:04compared to last year.
17:06It's the lowest for Jalen Hurts
17:08since his rookie year.
17:09Yeah, some of that you would expect
17:12as you get older,
17:14but it is such a big part,
17:17and it's a weapon,
17:18and I know defensive coordinators,
17:20they hate the threat of a mobile quarterback.
17:23Second and 11.
17:25He is going to be mobile here
17:27and go out of bounds with a short game.
17:29Third and long coming up again.
17:31Khalil Mack there to chase him out.
17:35A gain of just two.
17:37It's the one thing
17:38when you watch this Eagles offense
17:39as far as the passing game goes,
17:41it's, you know,
17:42we've seen it a couple times,
17:43the Goddard that's converted
17:45some of these third downs,
17:46but by and large you don't see
17:49a lot of timing in the offense
17:51of passing game with Hurts
17:53dropping back and getting the ball
17:55out quick.
17:56There's a lot of moving up
17:57and then flushing outside the pocket
17:58trying to find somebody.
18:02It's not ideal.
18:09It's their third, third and long.
18:11It's Smith,
18:13and he has met and dropped.
18:15Still got him.
18:20And the field goal unit
18:21comes on for the Eagles.
18:23So a couple of big conversions,
18:24a couple of good runs by Barkley,
18:26but the drive stalls.
18:27Yeah, it's kind of like a screen
18:29that they're trying to run.
18:30Get the ball to Devontae Smith quickly.
18:32You got A.J. Brown out in front
18:33trying to block,
18:34but third and long.
18:37There wasn't much opportunity
18:39for that one converting.
18:4141-yard attempt by Jake Elliott.
18:43Good snap, good hold.
18:51Good kick.
18:52Elliott happy to be out of the wind
18:54last time they were on the field
18:56against Chicago two Fridays ago.
18:587-3 L.A.
19:00Want more stats?
19:05Just ask Siri.
19:07Who leads the league in touchdowns?
19:09Anglewood, California.
19:17Tonight's aerial coverage
19:18is brought to you by Goodyear.
19:22SoFi Stadium.
19:24It's been the home to the Chargers,
19:27to the Rams since 2020.
19:28And it will be the site
19:31of Super Bowl 61,
19:33and God willing,
19:34Giggler over there,
19:38and I'll be here for that.
19:40Yeah.
19:40If we can make it that far.
19:42Hello.
19:44Vidal gets popped.
19:4634, and that first drive
19:48for the Chargers,
19:50how about a third and seven for 60?
19:53Pretty good when you're able
19:54to get the ball into his hands
19:55and a little short pass
19:57and set up this touchdown,
19:58and there's the rookie,
19:59Omarion Hampton,
20:00who they're thrilled to have back.
20:02But that was an outstanding drive,
20:05especially when we've been coming in
20:07talking about Justin Herbert
20:08and how he's going to handle things
20:10with the hand,
20:11and it didn't seem to be an issue
20:12for him whatsoever.
20:15And Jim Harbaugh
20:17fired up.
20:19Eagles got three.
20:22From the 34,
20:26the drive begins.
20:28Again, it was Herbert under center,
20:29and somehow he is able
20:31to find a receiver.
20:32It's Hampton.
20:34And even with a body draped on him,
20:37a completion for seven yards,
20:39I don't think anybody's ever
20:40questioned the toughness.
20:42Jordan Davis was right there
20:43for Philly,
20:44but I think Justin Herbert's
20:47about as tough as they come.
20:48He definitely is,
20:49and he's played through a lot
20:50just in the last few years.
20:53He's had rib injuries,
20:54hand injuries,
20:55his ankle.
20:55He's dealt with it all,
20:57and yet he has found ways
20:59to play through it all,
21:00and I know that he's endeared
21:02himself to his teammates
21:03over the years for doing so.
21:05Here is a handoff to Hampton,
21:07and he's met in the backfield
21:08by Jordan Davis,
21:09and they're going to need more
21:10in the run game up front.
21:13The Eagles,
21:14as Jordan Davis checks out,
21:16on now third down and long
21:18with Jalen Carter,
21:20their best defensive lineman,
21:21out.
21:21Yeah, he stunts,
21:22as you're going to see,
21:23Jordan Davis,
21:24the offensive line,
21:24they're trying to reach him,
21:26Bradley Bozeman,
21:27the center,
21:27and then he stunts
21:28the opposite way.
21:29It's really tough,
21:30but you're right, Joe.
21:31You know,
21:32it's all hands on deck.
21:33Jalen Carter,
21:34he's out.
21:35He wasn't playing to the level
21:36that he did a year ago,
21:38but on the heels of giving up
21:40almost 300 yards
21:41on the ground to Chicago,
21:43they've got to shore that up.
21:44They're going to shut this play
21:45down for a false start.
21:48Eagle fans making noise.
21:50False start.
21:51Offense number 79,
21:53that's a five-year penalty.
21:54There was a lot of them
21:58as we were driving in.
21:59You could see them.
22:00They travel well,
22:02and they've traveled well
22:04here to Los Angeles.
22:05And they let you know
22:06that they're here
22:07in the hotel.
22:08They're a loud,
22:08a loud bunch,
22:10aren't they?
22:10Not just at the stadium.
22:12They buck.
22:16We've got a couple
22:17in the booth with us tonight.
22:20Third down and 12.
22:26Movement on front,
22:27that's a free play.
22:29Eagles came across early.
22:30Herbert down the middle.
22:31He's picked,
22:32but it's not going to count.
22:33Cooper DeGene,
22:35but he might as well
22:36just take a seat.
22:43Ojomo up front,
22:44came across.
22:48Offside.
22:49Defense on the nose.
22:51That's a five-year penalty.
22:53Third down.
22:54And Herbert with a free play
22:59just tried to force it.
23:01He did,
23:01and it's the right thing,
23:02of course,
23:03but he had McConkie.
23:05If he just is able
23:06to lay that,
23:06he tries to line drive
23:07this ball
23:08as he's buying some time
23:10right here,
23:10but if he's able to lay that,
23:12he's definitely capable
23:13of doing it.
23:14He can make all the throws,
23:15but if he's able to lay that,
23:17he's got a real chance.
23:18It's a heck of a play
23:19by Cooper DeGene,
23:21but for not.
23:23Yeah,
23:24but you've got to make the play
23:25because it's a free play.
23:26If you don't make that play,
23:27knock it down
23:28at the very least.
23:29You're looking at a huge gain
23:30for the Chargers.
23:32Instead,
23:33it's a five-yard penalty.
23:34brings up third and seven.
23:45Dean on a blitz.
23:48Herbert got rid of it.
23:49It's fourth down either way.
23:51It's an incomplete pass.
23:55And the Kobe Dean
23:56was untouched
23:57going after Justin Herbert.
24:01Rolling on the field
24:02was an incomplete pass.
24:03It looks like Bradley Bozeman,
24:09the center,
24:10is the one who has the air.
24:12And he's got to pick that up.
24:13And the Kobe Dean,
24:14he's just got a free shot.
24:15Nobody there at all
24:16to slow him down
24:17and take a look
24:19at how Herbert's able
24:20to try to protect himself.
24:22That's the key
24:23as he gets hit.
24:24He's been hit
24:24as much as any quarterback
24:27in football this year.
24:29And on a night
24:30when he's playing hurt,
24:31you hate to see it.
24:32J.K. Scott hits the punt.
24:35Fair catch by Covey.
24:37And the Eagles get it back
24:38down 7-3.
24:41Eagles back on offense
24:42on the road.
24:44Two 8-4 teams
24:45going at it
24:46in Week 14.
24:47home of the Clippers.
24:51And we talk about
24:52the 31st Annual Jimmy V Classic
24:54once again
24:54at Madison Square Garden
24:55tomorrow night
24:56on ESPN
24:57and the ESPN app.
24:58Clemson tanks on
24:59number 10 BYU.
25:01That's at 6.30 Eastern.
25:02Then number 18 Florida
25:03squares off
25:04against number 5 UConn.
25:06Always a great night
25:07for a great cause.
25:09from the 10.
25:15Down by 4.
25:20Barkley bottled up.
25:22And this time
25:22it's linebacker
25:23Denzel Perryman
25:24who once called himself
25:25a San Diego Charger.
25:28And now
25:28after some time
25:30in Houston
25:30he's back with the team
25:32and an L.A. Charger
25:33made that stop
25:34and a loss of one.
25:35Yeah, Denzel Perryman
25:36he plays on rundowns
25:38and then they bring in
25:39Troy Dye quite a bit
25:40on passing downs
25:42and Perryman
25:42he's just able to get
25:44right into the backfield
25:45and as I mentioned earlier
25:46that's kind of what
25:47Saquon Barkley's been
25:48dealing with.
25:49He's had guys in the backfield
25:51far too many times
25:54this season before he can get going.
26:00Play clock at 2.
26:02Hurts.
26:03Smith.
26:05Third down coming up.
26:06Coming into this possession
26:08Barkley had 35 rush yards
26:11before contact tonight.
26:12He had 40.
26:15All of last week.
26:17Actually 10 days ago
26:18against the Chicago Bears
26:20in that home loss.
26:22Under 10 seconds to go
26:24in the opening quarter.
26:26And that'll do it.
26:29Down to the other end we go.
26:31Up comes the second quarter
26:33in Englewood.
26:35Glad you're with us tonight.
26:36on ESPN and ABC.
26:38Chargers and Eagles.
26:40four-point game after one.
26:47Look at the numbers for the quarterbacks
26:49through one quarter.
26:51And for my money, Troy,
26:53for the Eagles
26:53outside of a couple of good runs
26:55by Saquon Barkley.
26:57So far, it looks like
26:59more of the same to me.
27:00Yeah, I agree.
27:00It's been pretty pedestrian.
27:02As you look at those quarterback numbers,
27:03you see the yards that Herbert
27:06has because of the run
27:08after the catch by Vidal.
27:09The Eagles, on the other hand,
27:12for the year,
27:12they're near the bottom
27:13in yards after the catch.
27:15So they just don't get the ball
27:17in the receiver's hands
27:18with much room to run.
27:20Hurts.
27:21Overthrown.
27:22And picked.
27:24Mickens with the interception.
27:27He had Devontae Smith
27:28and missed him by plenty.
27:30And it's an interception
27:31for R.J. Mickens,
27:33his first.
27:34Let's make sure he made the catch.
27:36It doesn't look like he did to me.
27:41It looks like it goes through his arms
27:42and it hits the ground, Joe.
27:43They'll take a look at this one.
27:45I'm not sure exactly where
27:47Jalen Hurts was trying to go
27:48with the football
27:49because even to try to get the ball
27:51to Devontae Smith,
27:51that was going to require
27:53an outstanding throw.
27:54It was tight.
27:55But it sailed on him.
27:57And I don't think Mickens got that.
27:59Troy, I agree with you.
28:00The ball hits the ground
28:01without control.
28:03So this is going to be
28:04reversed to incomplete.
28:05I assume they'll do this
28:06on an expedited basis.
28:07Yeah, that last shot was clear
28:09that it hit the turf.
28:11Play was a third and five
28:13from the 15.
28:15We expect the call
28:16on the field of interception
28:17to be overturned.
28:19But then it would be fourth down.
28:21After an expedited review,
28:23the pass is incomplete.
28:25It'll be fourth down.
28:31So take the first interception
28:33for R.J. Mickens
28:34out of the books,
28:35the sixth-round pick from
28:36Clemson,
28:37trapped it.
28:42Well, you see the route here.
28:44It was actually Jahan Dodson
28:45that he's trying to get the ball
28:47too.
28:47And, but that was good coverage.
28:49I mean, there just was not a lot
28:51of space there.
28:52And it looked like Tar Heap
28:53still was the one who was in
28:54coverage, but a ball that sails
28:56on him.
28:57And, and they're fortunate
28:59that they're putting the football.
29:02So another three and out
29:03for the Eagles.
29:04man, it's a line drive.
29:09Darius Davis has a little room.
29:11One guy to beat.
29:13And a good job by Keeley.
29:14Ringo to slow him up.
29:16And that blocked down after losing
29:19more yards.
29:20It's no fumble.
29:23He was down.
29:24But Kylan Granson made the tackle
29:27after Ringo slowed him down.
29:28That was a great play by Kylan
29:30Granson.
29:31I mean, he was trying to gain a lot
29:33of ground to get around the edge.
29:35And Granson was able to come up
29:37from behind.
29:37Great play.
29:38That punt nets 63 yards of field
29:41position for the Eagles.
29:43Well done by the special teams.
29:47In the second quarter, it's a 7-3
29:49game and back on offense are the
29:51Chargers.
29:54Justin Herbert got hit and then
29:56hit that left hand against his
29:58right elbow, which will show you
30:00the last time he was out there.
30:02Under center, however, and he
30:03tosses to Hampton who bends it
30:05back and has 10 plus.
30:07Good start.
30:09Let's go down to Laura.
30:11Well, Joe, the toughness of Justin
30:12Herbert continues to be on display.
30:14As you mentioned, he hit the left
30:15hand that is broken on his own
30:18elbow.
30:19And then immediately when he got to
30:20the sideline, athletic trainers
30:21checking on him.
30:22They've been checking on him
30:23throughout.
30:24He continues to say he's good to
30:25go, but he has been trying to
30:27keep some movement in those
30:29fingers throughout.
30:30You can see him sort of touching
30:31it, feeling it, trying to figure
30:33out exactly the status, I think, on
30:35his own.
30:35Harbaugh has also checked on him
30:37throughout as well.
30:38Yeah, Laura, and yet again, still
30:40under center.
30:41He tosses Hampton.
30:42Eagles are going to see a lot of
30:43him tonight.
30:44He's already got a touchdown.
30:46There's a flag on that play out on
30:47the edge.
30:49Holding.
30:51Offense number 68.
30:52That's a 10-yard penalty.
30:54Push down.
30:54And with more on Herbert's hand from
30:58the Philly side, let's check in with
30:59Lisa.
31:00Yeah, Joe.
31:00Well, the Eagles defense has said
31:01that they know they still have to
31:03give Justin Herbert the respect he
31:05deserves, but they believe he just
31:06will not be as comfortable gripping
31:08the ball as he usually is and won't
31:09be able to get it out with the same
31:11speed.
31:12Mauro Jomo said he thinks that hand
31:13gives them about a half a second on
31:15their pass rush, and he said a half
31:17second is a lot to a D-line, and that
31:19can be the difference, he said, between a
31:21pressure and a sack.
31:23Yeah, Lisa, well, his average
31:24completion just one-yard downfield
31:26tonight.
31:29All three of his completions to
31:30running backs as he takes off, and
31:33now will land on that right arm.
31:36Cooper to Gene up to make the stop
31:38after that holding call, and a gain
31:40of five.
31:41Well, that's what I was curious to
31:42see if we would see Herbert
31:45scramble like we just did, and
31:47that's been such a big part of this
31:49offense.
31:50When you look at their rushing
31:51numbers, Justin Herbert is the
31:53second-leading rusher, and he's very
31:55effective when he gets out of the
31:57pocket and is able to create, but I
31:58thought maybe with his hand he'd be
32:00a little bit more judicious as to
32:02whether or not he would actually
32:03take off.
32:04You watch him, and he's going to try
32:05to protect that hand as best he can,
32:08but then you call into question, he's
32:09talking about shoulders and a lot of
32:11other things that are going to take
32:13the brunt of the blow.
32:15Second down and 15 out to his right.
32:17This one is incomplete with Gadsden, the
32:22target, third down and 15.
32:24I thought, Joe, when we talked to Jim
32:26Harbaugh, he didn't seem overly
32:28concerned.
32:29A little cavalier about Justin Herbert,
32:31the fact that he might play.
32:32He said it's a chance to test his pain
32:34tolerance and fortitude, you know, to
32:36get out there and show what he could
32:38do.
32:38He talked about how he went out and
32:40played after getting part of his
32:42meniscus taken out when he was a
32:43player, and he showed up, so rub a
32:46little third on it and go.
32:49He was definitely known as a tough
32:51quarterback in his day.
32:52He sure was.
32:53Your contemporary on third down and
32:5515.
32:57Herbert moving around and eyes down
32:59field for McConkie.
33:01DeGene is there for Philly.
33:05Boy, he's so good.
33:08Cooper DeGene and with McConkie in the
33:10slot, those two are going to face each
33:12other a lot.
33:13Yeah, Joe, this is outstanding.
33:15Cooper DeGene has been a heck of a
33:17player, and he's right number 33
33:20as McConkie comes off, and he's in
33:23man coverage, but he does a great
33:25job of locating the football.
33:27He knows that Herbert's gotten out
33:28of the pocket and not easy to do.
33:31Herbert's just trying to give
33:32McConkie an opportunity, but he
33:34plays it perfectly.
33:37Three and out now for the Chargers
33:40as J.K. Scott hits a beauty, high
33:43hanging punt.
33:46Covey on the return is able to get
33:48it to the 26.
33:5114-yard return after a 56-yard punt.
33:56There's Cooper DeGene.
33:57Great slot corner, as good as there
34:01is in the league.
34:02Eagles ball, down four.
34:097-3 ballgame with 12.35 to go
34:12here in this first half.
34:14This will be the fourth possession
34:15for the Eagles.
34:17They've gone punt, field goal, punt.
34:19A.J. Brown has been targeted once,
34:21and that was the early drop down
34:23field on a deep shot.
34:28Here's pressure off the edge, and
34:30Derwin James, who is all over the
34:32place in the backfield to bring
34:34down Saquon Barkley.
34:37Derwin James, he is such a great
34:39player, and you're right, Joe.
34:40You mentioned earlier, they move
34:41him all over the place, and one,
34:44to do that, you've got to be a
34:45really smart player to be able to
34:48line up in all the different
34:49spots and the things that they
34:51want to do with you.
34:52But he brings an attitude and a
34:53toughness, and I know in talking
34:55with Jim Harbaugh, he said he had
34:56been on the job about a day and
34:58a half last year and realized how
35:00good Derwin James was, and he told
35:02the team, just do it the way
35:04number three does it, because he
35:05does everything perfectly.
35:08A lot of love between head coach
35:10and number three.
35:11Blitz!
35:12Brown, flag on the play, hurts on
35:15the ground.
35:16Pressure by Dayon Henley, and a flag
35:20on the coverage.
35:25While the quarterback was in the
35:27pocket, legal contact on the
35:29defense, that'll be a five-yard
35:31penalty in the magnetic first
35:32time.
35:33Boy, Hurts got a big hit.
35:35This Charger defense doesn't blitz a
35:37lot, but Henley came on the blitz,
35:40and he delivered a blow.
35:41They brought a five-man rush.
35:42Dayon Henley, he's unblocked, and
35:45they free up A.J.
35:46Brown.
35:47This is the second time tonight
35:48they've had an opportunity.
35:49Now there's a grab, and that's what
35:50they got the call for, but Hurts,
35:53because he's under pressure, just
35:54was not able to get the ball out
35:56where he needed to, to give Brown an
35:59opportunity to try to make a play.
36:01I mentioned that this defense, number
36:02one in the NFL, not giving up plays
36:05of 20 yards or more in the air, and
36:08yet the Eagles have had a couple
36:10chances and just haven't quite been
36:12able to connect for different reasons.
36:14Cam Hart, guilty of the hold.
36:18So first down, just shot at 30.
36:21James coming off the edge again.
36:23Catch is made by Shipley, and a
36:27running back with a gain of three.
36:29Yeah, a little different look by
36:30Philadelphia.
36:31One, in this game, we've already
36:32seen them do more motions than we
36:35had seen, and then they come with
36:36the two back.
36:37And this isn't something they do a
36:38lot of, but just trying to give some
36:41different looks, mix it up a little
36:43bit, and Kevin Petulo, the offensive
36:46coordinator, he's, he's trying to find
36:49something to give this offense a spark.
36:52Two backs again.
36:54Shipley and Barkley.
36:56Hurts.
36:59Finds Goddard.
37:00Nice move.
37:01Dallas Goddard with a big play.
37:02And brought down at the 49.
37:06Elijah Molden missed a tackle, and it
37:08turns into a 16-yard catch and run by
37:11Goddard.
37:13Well, Goddard is his security blanket.
37:15It looked like he had a chance at
37:16Devontae Smith at the intermediate
37:18level.
37:19These are crossing routes.
37:20You don't see a lot of these from the
37:22Eagles offensively, but he had a
37:24chance for a catch and run for a big
37:26play.
37:27But Hurts comes underneath to
37:29Goddard.
37:30Not bad coverage, but he's able to
37:32make him miss and pick up more
37:34yards.
37:35Three catches for Goddard.
37:37Three first downs.
37:42Play action from Hurts.
37:44He's got Brown.
37:46First down inside the 30, and a
37:48little something cooking here for the
37:50Eagles on offense.
37:5323 yards to A.J.
37:55Brown, his first catch.
37:56I like the concept.
37:57They puncture the middle with a
37:58vertical, and then it opens up that
38:01space for A.J.
38:02Brown coming across the field.
38:04I mentioned that they're near the
38:05bottom of the league in run after
38:07the catch, and you start completing
38:10passes like that, you're going to
38:11see those numbers go up dramatically.
38:15Here's a handoff to Barkley.
38:17Good work by Cam Hart off the edge.
38:19No gain on that play.
38:23Seen two good runs from Barkley
38:25tonight.
38:25That's it for A.J.
38:26Brown, second-round pick by
38:28Tennessee, three-time second-team
38:29All-Pro.
38:31He's a three-time Pro Bowler, and
38:33this year a career low in average
38:37receiving yards per game.
38:39And he's the guy, really, the fun
38:41starts once he gets the ball in his
38:42hands.
38:43And, you know, he's awfully tough.
38:45He becomes like a running back.
38:46He's got some real size to him, but
38:49just haven't been able to get a lot
38:52of balls to him this year where
38:53he's had that opportunity.
38:57Big toss.
38:59Hurts.
38:59Good protection.
39:02And he's going to go.
39:05And duck out of bounds to bring up
39:07a third and short.
39:11Well, I like what they did on the
39:13play side where they're trying to
39:15run more of a layer route, but then
39:19you've got A.J.
39:20Brown who comes across the field
39:21and he hooks up.
39:22Nobody's there.
39:23Just put it right on him.
39:25And that's part of the
39:26progression where I do think
39:27Hurts can be better.
39:29You don't like it.
39:30Come right.
39:30Know exactly where your
39:31check down is, and that's A.J.
39:33Brown on that concept.
39:37Instead, he carried it for eight,
39:39third, and two.
39:45Hurts.
39:47Picked off.
39:49He intercepted, and now the ball's
39:50out, and Hurts ends up with the
39:52ball in his hands.
39:53He fumbles.
39:56Chargers ball.
39:58Troy Dye ends up on the ball.
40:03And what a mess of a play.
40:04First, Deshaun Hand.
40:10Interception.
40:12Fumbled by the defense.
40:13Recovered by the offense.
40:15Fumbled by the offense.
40:16And recovered by the defense.
40:18Change of possession.
40:19There you go.
40:20Scott Novak takes you through the play.
40:23As it was an interception by Deshaun Hand.
40:27That's a great play.
40:28And then the fumble.
40:30Then Hurts gets it.
40:31Then he has it knocked out.
40:32Then Troy Dye gets it.
40:35Chargers ball.
40:36What a mess that was.
40:38Up four.
40:44Here's a look at that last play.
40:45The interception.
40:46Deshaun Hand.
40:47It's a zone blitz.
40:49He shows that he's coming,
40:50and then he drops into coverage.
40:52Normally, as a quarterback,
40:54a lot of times you don't see
40:55defensive linemen like that.
40:57But where he was throwing the
40:58football, I'm really not sure how
41:01Hurts didn't feel that right in front
41:04of A.J. Brown where he was trying
41:06to go with the football.
41:06But what great hands by Deshaun Hand.
41:11Here is Vidale.
41:12A good start to the drive with a nice run.
41:14There were three turnovers on the same play.
41:17An interception by Hand.
41:19A forced fumble by Shipley.
41:20A fumble recovered by Hurts.
41:23Then Caldwell forces the fumble by Hurts,
41:25and Troy Dye ends up on it.
41:28Eagles came in with the fewest turnovers
41:30in the league.
41:31Eight all year.
41:32Two on that play, both by Jalen Hurts
41:34on the interception, then the fumble.
41:35Yeah, and they had a little something going, too.
41:37You know, they had completed a couple big passes,
41:40had some momentum going,
41:41and, yeah, they just can't quite get over the hump.
41:48Quick throw.
41:49Johnston blocked down immediately
41:50by Adore Jackson.
41:52Good play.
41:53Third and two.
41:55That's a really good play by Adore Jackson,
41:57because that's a big receiver.
41:58And Quentin Johnston,
42:00and getting him to the ground,
42:02he reads it immediately.
42:04He's cluing in,
42:05and as soon as Johnston comes up and catches the football,
42:08he hits it,
42:09and not able to pick up the first down.
42:14Adore Jackson has struggled this season.
42:16One reason why the Eagles put a claim in on Darius Slay,
42:20who'd been released by Pittsburgh,
42:21and claimed by the Bills.
42:24Herbert's in trouble.
42:26Out to his left.
42:27He's got his man.
42:28What a throw.
42:29As he hits the rookie, Trey Harris.
42:31How good was that throw going to his left?
42:33That's as good as it gets.
42:35Herbert, there was nothing out in front of him
42:37where you expected him to throw the football,
42:40and to be able to move to your left,
42:41get your shoulders turned,
42:42and work the ball in the middle of the field,
42:45and in tight coverage.
42:47I mean, that's great coverage,
42:49and just an outstanding,
42:51you couldn't place it any better.
42:53It's a,
42:54he's made a lot of those over his short career,
42:58but that was a good one.
42:59Brilliant throw.
43:02They needed two.
43:03They got 18.
43:05On first down.
43:08Handoff is to Vidal.
43:11And a nice chunk of yardage on first down as he gets six.
43:14Well, the Chargers,
43:17they go big personnel.
43:18They bring in an extra offensive lineman,
43:20and, you know,
43:21that's kind of a staple
43:22when you think back to the years with Greg Roman,
43:25whether it was in San Francisco or Baltimore
43:27or now here with the L.A. Chargers,
43:29and I think he's done an outstanding job this year
43:32when you consider all the injuries
43:33that they've had in the offensive line.
43:35Nine different offensive line combinations,
43:38and in visiting with Greg the other day,
43:40he said this has been the toughest year
43:42he's ever been through.
43:44And you lose your rookie running back,
43:46and now your quarterback's got a broken left hand.
43:48Hampton, that rookie running back Troy just talked about,
43:51got half a yard,
43:52brought down by Byron Young,
43:54another guy they're going to ask for more from.
43:58And now Trey Pipkins is down.
44:01Wow.
44:02Wow, they've had,
44:02I said they've had nine different line combinations.
44:05They've had four just in the last four weeks
44:07because they've had a different left tackle,
44:09and now you've got right tackle Trey Pipkins on the ground.
44:12They made a trade, got Trevor Penning,
44:14who we just showed you on the sideline.
44:16He may be called into work.
44:21Trey Pipkins needed help getting off the field.
44:23He had his right leg trapped under bodies on that last play.
44:27Darius Davis, meanwhile,
44:28a receiver questionable to return with an ankle injury.
44:32They've had Trevor Penning,
44:34who they've got in a trade from the Saints in,
44:36as their jumbo tight end.
44:37They bring Bobby Hart in at right tackle.
44:40They want to keep Penning in that role.
44:43And with a flag down,
44:46Herbert is being dragged to the ground by Jalen Phillips.
44:49He's holding offense number 75.
44:56That's one of these to five.
44:58Fourth down.
44:59It's fourth down,
45:00as Bozeman is guilty of a hold.
45:03It's a good job defensively.
45:04They changed the picture,
45:05and they show one thing at the pre-snap,
45:08and then as the ball's being snapped,
45:10they changed it up
45:11and gave a little different coverage.
45:13But take a look at Justin Herbert
45:15as he's going to the ground.
45:17You knew coming in,
45:18he was going to take some hits
45:19because that's kind of been life for him
45:22as a quarterback with the Chargers.
45:24I know Harbaugh,
45:24when he came in last year,
45:25the first thing he wanted to do,
45:27address was the offensive line.
45:28But, man, they have beat up.
45:30It'll be a 45-yard try.
45:32They assisted on that call
45:33and said that Herbert was down by contact.
45:35It goes as a sack on the play.
45:38He did not get the pass off.
45:40And Dicker
45:41has had a phenomenal season.
45:44Knocks it through from 45.
45:47And the question I would have is,
45:48will this count as points off turnovers
45:50on the same play?
45:53Which is what set this up.
45:56What happens here in L.A. tonight
45:59is also happening in the world of Monstropolis.
46:03Here's O'Marrion Hampton's touchdown.
46:11There you go.
46:13That's Sully, I believe.
46:14I believe that's Sully who took it in.
46:16You can keep watching the game here.
46:18Head over to ESPN2
46:19or the Disney platform
46:20to watch more of the Monsters, Inc.
46:22Fun Day Football telecast.
46:24Should I let America know
46:25that we've got Sully right here
46:26in our booth with us?
46:28I mean, you talk about
46:29being committed to the role.
46:30Come on, bring it in here.
46:32He was in our morning meeting.
46:33This is David Moulton.
46:35Bring it in here, Sully.
46:36Come on.
46:37I've been looking at Troy
46:41and seeing that outfit
46:43and costume in the background all night.
46:45You have anything you want to say to America?
46:49It's a grown man, David Moulton.
46:52He's been wearing that since the meeting
46:53this morning.
46:56Here's Covey on the return.
47:00Cannot get to the 30
47:02and he got hit and hit hard
47:04by Delshawn Phillips.
47:07Let's see who's designing success.
47:12Brought to you by Kohl's.
47:13And we highlight this Chargers defense,
47:16which has been really good tonight
47:17and all year.
47:18Yeah, they are just a well-coached group.
47:21They've got a talented group of players as well.
47:23The secondary is as good as there is.
47:25They just do not make mistakes
47:27and they make you take the long road
47:29as an offense.
47:32And it gets challenging.
47:33You know, there's...
47:34If you're not getting the big plays,
47:36it's hard to score points
47:38and you feel like if you can get a team
47:40to enough third downs,
47:42you're going to stop them
47:43and keep them out of the end zone.
47:45And they've been really good on third down
47:47all year as well.
47:49Number three defense in the league.
47:51This one has floated incomplete.
47:53Barkley, the closest one to it.
47:55Hertz ends up on his backside
47:57as he got pressure from Tui Pelotu,
47:59who has really blossomed as a pass rusher.
48:03Ten sacks to lead this team.
48:05Better every year.
48:08And he was coming off the edge.
48:09Yeah.
48:10Watching him preparing for this game,
48:12he has been really impressive
48:14in what he's been able to do last year
48:16with both Khalil Mack and Joey Bosa.
48:19He was in that rotation
48:21but not getting as many snaps.
48:22He knew this offseason
48:23was going to be his opportunity
48:25with Bosa going to Buffalo
48:27and he has really delivered.
48:29He's gotten better every year.
48:32Second and ten
48:33in a seven-point game.
48:36Picked again!
48:38Intercepted!
48:42It's Dante Jackson
48:44with his fourth of the year.
48:45And just a nightmare
48:49first half for Jalen Hurts.
48:52His third turnover of the ball game.
48:54Well, Dante Jackson,
48:55this is what he does so well.
48:56You're going to watch.
48:57His eyes are on the quarterback.
48:59He feels Smith coming off the ball
49:01but his eyes are always on the quarterback.
49:04And this is a defense
49:05that plays a lot of zone coverage.
49:07So with that,
49:08you're able to have eyes on the quarterback
49:10and it's a reason why
49:11he's been able to get the interceptions
49:13that he has this year.
49:15It's his fourth on the season.
49:17He has been terrific.
49:18Second pick of the night
49:20thrown by Hurts.
49:22He had two
49:22over the first 12 games.
49:25And there was another one
49:26by R.J. Mickens
49:27that was trapped.
49:28So he has been off
49:29to say the least
49:30here in this game.
49:31Well, when you watch Dante Jackson,
49:33he's gotten so many interceptions
49:36playing it just like that.
49:37He's excellent.
49:38Not every corner can do it
49:39but he's excellent
49:40at looking at the quarterback,
49:42filling the receiver,
49:43and driving on footballs.
49:45He takes chances
49:46and they usually pay off.
49:47Here's a ball out
49:48on the sack.
49:50Philly's ball
49:51recovered by Byron Young.
49:55Knocked out by N'Kobe Dean.
49:57And Philly needed that.
49:58They've got it at midfield.
50:06N'Kobe Dean
50:07is one of the best
50:08blitzing linebackers
50:09that I've seen.
50:10He runs right through
50:11running backs
50:12and even in talking
50:13with Greg Roman,
50:14he knew that.
50:15And that's a matchup
50:16that Greg Roman
50:17did not want to see.
50:18He goes right through
50:19Hampton, the rookie,
50:21and then is able
50:22to strip the ball
50:23on Justin Herbert.
50:25The defense needed
50:26to come up with a play
50:27after the way
50:28the offense gave the ball off
50:29and they come up with it.
50:31That's big time.
50:32That is five turnovers
50:35in the last 11 plays
50:37as these two teams
50:38go back to back
50:39on snaps
50:40handing the ball off
50:41to the other team.
50:43Yeah, you know,
50:43this Eagles defense,
50:45I get it.
50:46They gave up 280 yards
50:47on the ground
50:48last week to Chicago.
50:49They folded in
50:50the fourth quarter,
50:50but going into
50:51the fourth quarter,
50:52they had only given up
50:5310 points.
50:53This is a defense
50:55that is good,
50:56but you wear down
50:58if you're not getting
50:59much from your offense.
51:00And this is a game tonight
51:02that has gone
51:03like a lot of them,
51:04and yet the defense
51:05comes up with a big play
51:06to keep them in it
51:08and not give up
51:09any points
51:10and set this offense
51:11up with good field position.
51:12They ruled Young
51:13down by contact
51:14back at the 42,
51:15so they move it back
51:16eight yards.
51:18They initially put it
51:19at the 50.
51:21Four and a half to go.
51:23Here's Barkley.
51:27And for a rare run
51:31in tonight's game,
51:32he had some run
51:32over the right side
51:33and picked up nine.
51:36Good, tough running by him.
51:37He's having to make
51:38some people miss
51:39shortly after he gets
51:40the football
51:40and picks up
51:42some positive yardage.
51:43He's having a decent night
51:45running the football.
51:47He had the 19-yard run
51:48a little bit earlier.
51:51He had over 1,000 yards
51:52last year at this point.
51:53Came into tonight
51:54with 740.
51:56Only one 100-yard game.
51:58Left side.
51:59He's got a first down
52:00and then lowers his shoulder
52:01into Tarheed Steel.
52:05Still made the stop
52:07in a gain of five.
52:09And maybe,
52:09I said it the last time,
52:11they had a little bit
52:11of momentum
52:12that they're gaining
52:13as they trail by seven.
52:15Some of this runs,
52:16when we looked at the first
52:17quarter,
52:17there's Derwin James.
52:19That's not good.
52:21You hope that he's okay.
52:22He's the heartbeat
52:23of this defense.
52:25Take a look and see
52:26what happened to him.
52:27But Tarheed still,
52:29that was a nice run
52:30and good blocking up front.
52:32But for him to make the tackle
52:33that he made on Saquon Barkley
52:35in the open field,
52:35that's not a lot of guys
52:37that do that.
52:41And now they're going
52:41to stop play.
52:43Please reset the game clock
52:45to 346.
52:47Play clock will be at 34.
52:49Both clocks will go
52:50on my signal.
52:52And here's a look
52:53to see what happened
52:54with Derwin James.
52:56Who got hit up
52:57in the head and neck area.
53:01I think Boydby got him.
53:03Yeah, was it Boydby
53:04as he's going to the ground,
53:06just hit right into his thigh.
53:08And you could tell
53:09looking at him
53:09that he was a little dazed.
53:11He goes into the medical tent.
53:14First down, Eagles.
53:19Barkley getting going.
53:23And last year's
53:24offensive player of the year
53:26gets 13,
53:27brought down by Molden,
53:28the safety.
53:29Well, that's the crease.
53:30Cam Juergens,
53:31the center,
53:31number 51,
53:32right here in the middle.
53:33He gets kind of the key block.
53:34And Barkley's working
53:36off of that.
53:37So you see that lane
53:38that he has.
53:40And he can still get it.
53:42And he can still make people miss.
53:46Three minutes left in the half.
53:47Left side.
53:48Barkley trying to bounce it.
53:53Bayon Henley on the tackle.
53:54Again, a three.
53:56Yeah, so they're going to ride Barkley.
53:58At least it looks like
53:58they're going to
53:59as we start to wind down
54:01to the two-minute warning.
54:03And rightfully so.
54:04Try to calm this offense
54:05down a little bit.
54:06Kind of help Jalen Hurts a little.
54:08And get the running game going
54:09and having some success
54:11here on this drive.
54:12Now Landon Dickerson,
54:13their left guard,
54:14who's been battling injuries
54:15since camp,
54:17limps off the field.
54:18as Brett Toth,
54:25who's made starts
54:26at guard and center this year,
54:28is in a guard.
54:29Second and seven.
54:32Quick set up and throw.
54:34A.J. Brown.
54:35First down.
54:38And that could take us
54:39to the two-minute warning
54:40here in Los Angeles.
54:42And into the red zone
54:46go the Eagles
54:47after the fumble
54:48by Justin Herbert.
