When Final Fantasy XVI first dropped, so did my jaw — and honestly, the visuals and world-building still hold up. 00:00When footage from Final Fantasy XVI dropped, so did my jaw.
00:05My goodness, this game looks cool, and by the looks of it and first impressions given to popular gaming news websites,
00:11the latest addition to the Final Fantasy world is going to give fans exactly what they want.
00:17But beyond the razor-sharp combat mechanics and thrilling boss fights,
00:21IGN reports the game stays engaging through its thoroughly fantasy-rooted tale,
00:26establishing the world of Valestia, its factions and individual personalities to good effect.
00:32According to Video Games Chronicle, the story of Final Fantasy XVI was clearly influenced by Game of Thrones
00:39and the high fantasy renaissance of the last decade.
00:42It mixed political intrigue and swords-and-shield aesthetic of the genre
00:47with the exuberance of what we already know and love about the Final Fantasy games.
00:52Not that there's any reason to argue, and it's okay for everyone to have their own favorite game in the franchise,
00:57but this one looks like it might be on par with Final Fantasy VII,
01:01which, let's face it, is widely regarded as the strongest release we've had to date.
01:07Final Fantasy XVI is set for a worldwide release on June 22, 2023,
01:13with a PEGI 18 and the ESRB's Mature rating, which makes it even more intriguing.
01:19We'll see you next time.
