00:00Inside me, there are two snakes.
00:03One is well aware that Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater is a luscious remake of the original
00:08Metal Gear Solid 3 featuring new control options and impressive Unreal 5 visuals.
00:13The other snake is just like, hell yeah, we're playing Metal Gear Solid 3 for the hundredth
00:18time.
00:19Time to do the usual.
00:20Both snakes are valid, but it's hard to listen to their slithering whispers at the same time.
00:26Simple to play and go hands on with the first couple of hours of Metal Gear Solid Delta for
00:30myself, encompassing only the prologue Virtuous mission.
00:33This amounted to a straightforward playthrough of the opening, and then a more leisurely
00:37run taking it all in and pushing the buttons of enemy guard and animal AI alike.
00:42Sorry, crocodiles, you're just too tasty to leave alone.
00:47For the new Fox recruits out there, Metal Gear Solid Delta once again sees naked snakes sent
00:53behind Soviet enemy lines in the 1960s to extract a defecting scientist, who has been helping
00:59to develop a mobile nuclear weapons platform.
01:02Naturally, complications arise, and he must balance jungle stealth with simply surviving,
01:08like nabbing animals for food for instance.
01:11I see you there Crocs.
01:13I warned you.
01:15The original combines Bond-like spy thrills with the best sneaking the Metal Gear series
01:19at the time had to offer.
01:22Many would consider it one of the best games ever made, so I am pleased to report that all
01:27the stuff that made it such a classic is present here in Metal Gear Solid Delta.
01:32Beyond hidden rubber ducks to now find in addition to the returning rubber frogs, one in each map
01:38by the way, great care has been deliberately taken by the developers to ensure it still feels
01:43like the iconic game fans remember, all while also being slick enough for newer players to get into
01:48it without having to think too hard about it technically being an older game.
01:54It creates a smooth feeling to play where it essentially handles like your rose-tinted memories.
02:00Of course the game always looked this good and was this straightforward to control.
02:05This is a game made with the idea slash nighttime anxiety thought that the younger generation
02:10of gamers aren't familiar with the Metal Gear series anymore.
02:13At the same time though, it can almost be hard to appreciate those enhancements because
02:18of it.
02:19Like Naked Snake rocking the perfect camo for the occasion, by design they blend into the
02:24background.
02:25Although in my demo I could only play with the modern controls, including things like
02:29a crouch walk and a marginally more intuitive control scheme.
02:33Okay, okay, okay.
02:35It's probably a lot more intuitive.
02:38I am just a Metal Gear sicko whose synapses are always ready to return to the legacy controls.
02:43Likewise, the fancy new visuals in Metal Gear Solid Delta are undoubtedly very pretty, but
02:50after a few minutes of play poking around the forests of Selenoyask, I lose sight of the
02:55brushstrokes and my brain begins to interpret it as simply Metal Gear Solid 3.
03:01Same as it ever was.
03:03All of this isn't helped by the fact Metal Gear Solid Delta is very clearly grafted onto
03:08the bones of the original game as directly as possible.
03:11It's an entirely different proposition to Konami's recent Silent Hill 2 remake developed
03:16by Bloober Team.
03:18Map geometry seems unchanged, with load points right where you remember them.
03:23Guards still aren't very smart.
03:26Apart from crouch walk, Naked Snake's movement options are much the same.
03:31No Metal Gear Solid 5 style diving here.
03:34The devs say it's almost too faithful.
03:36There are times when these philosophies clash.
03:39Tranquilised animals will suddenly pop into a spinning cage model for Snake to scoop up.
03:44But to me, that's the original charm shining through.
03:47It's tempting to find this disappointing, even while intellectually acknowledging the
03:52amount of effort that must have still gone into making Metal Gear Solid Delta.
03:57After all, there's not going to be much to surprise or delight veterans like me.
04:01Woefully, I might only be able to enjoy this flashy overhaul as much as the original Metal
04:07Gear Solid 3.
04:08Wait a minute, enjoy a game as much as the original Metal Gear Solid 3?
04:15That's actually an incredibly high bar.
04:18Often with remakes, re-releases, remasters, reduxes and retools, there can be some conflict
04:24between the quality of the source material and the ambition of the team putting together
04:28the new vision.
04:30Here, they're perfectly in sync.
04:33It might not be the expansive reimagining some dreamed of, but if the limitation of the
04:37Metal Gear Solid Delta faces is being beholden to feeling too close to one of the best PS2
04:43games of all time, that's certainly no bad thing.
04:47It's time to go dark and submerge once more into a Russian marsh.
04:53Crocodile cap firmly attached to head.
04:57Soon, we shall emerge.
05:01But what about you?
05:02Are you excited for Metal Gear Solid Delta?
05:04Let us know in the comments and stick with GamesRadar for the biggest 2025 releases.
05:12Sovietans?
05:14Space Connectioneaug machinealling.
05:16So, can you take ten minutes or touch ?
05:20Now.
05:22We say other people already said, oh, I don't even notice.
05:24Once they fail, we scoured and step up.
05:26So, I'd like founder and fashion.
05:28My mindset is incredibly optimistic, sabemos how to get rid out.
05:32But I honestly don't even notice how to get rid of the Tesla plan.
05:35And we're very grateful for the Apple Design.
05:37In the米 discovered Projektion.
