00:00Lorenzo Lamas breaks his silence to back GOP sheriff in California governor's race.
00:05Lorenzo Lamas has broken his long-held silence on politics to endorse Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco in the California governor's race,
00:13sharply criticizing Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom's leadership.
00:17The Hollywood actor told Fox News that California has suffered under what he calls mismanagement,
00:22citing homelessness, wasteful spending, and lack of transparency in state programs.
00:27I think we're at a point now, not just in California, but nationwide,
00:31that we have to start at least voicing what we feel is wrong with what's happening,
00:35Lamas said, acknowledging he previously avoided political commentary to protect career opportunities in the entertainment industry.
00:41The actor pointed to his personal experiences with wildfires in Pacific Palisades,
00:46which destroyed his childhood home and elementary school, as evidence of insufficient state resources.
00:51There's just so much red tape, so much bureaucracy, and Chad wants to just eliminate it, he said,
00:58praising Bianco's plan to streamline disaster response and support affected families.
01:03Public safety also played a significant role in Lamas' endorsement.
01:08With two daughters living in Los Angeles, he emphasized the need for a pro-law enforcement governor to keep communities safe.
01:15He argued that Bianco's focus on law enforcement and the cost of living aligns with common-sense solutions for Californians.
01:22Bianco faces steep odds, as no Republican has won statewide office in California for nearly two decades.
01:29On the Democratic side, Representative Eric Swalwell and former Representative Katie Porter,
01:35both critics of President Donald Trump, are running to succeed Newsom, who is term-limited.
01:40Despite the challenges, Lamas expressed confidence in Bianco's appeal, saying,
01:45What I see in Chad is a tremendous gift of being able to present his agenda with a common-sense foundation,
01:52and that's going to appeal to anybody with half of a brain.
01:55Other high-profile figures, including UFC legends Royce Gracie and Dan Henderson,
02:00have also endorsed Bianco, signaling growing support for his campaign against entrenched Democratic leadership.
