00:00Reform-minded members of dynasties, academics, public servants, including Pasig City Mayor Vico Soto
00:06and other citizens, have launched a network pushing for the passage of an anti-dynasty law.
00:12The Anti-Dynasty Network says the recent flood control scandal showed how deeply rooted and
00:17normalized corruption remains in the country, enabled by inequality and brought about by
00:22powerful political families. In its draft proposal, the coalition calls for the following key
00:27provisions in the Anti-Dynasty Bill. No family member may immediately succeed an incumbent in any
00:33elective post. The restriction must apply to the fourth degree of consanguinity or affinity.
00:38The ban must cover overlapping constituencies. No two relatives within the fourth degree may
00:43simultaneously run for or hold the positions of president, vice president, or senator. No two
00:48relatives within the fourth degree may simultaneously run for or hold office within the same province,
00:54city, or municipality. No local official may be related to the district representative of the
00:58same area. And no relative of an incumbent official should be fielded as a party list nominee.
