00:00A Filipino who reported months of medical neglect while under detention in an ICE facility will
00:05soon be deported back to the Philippines. Greggy Valerio Sorio has been a rallying point for
00:10progressive migrant rights groups in the U.S. This over the severe medical neglect he experienced
00:16while detained at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Washington.
00:21Sorio recently had to have a toe amputated following an ulcerative colitis diagnosis
00:26after months in ICE detention. The Consulate General in San Francisco has repeatedly requested
00:31humanitarian consideration for Sorio to allow him to recover from his condition before he is deported,
00:36but U.S. authorities assessed his condition and cleared him for deportation. ICE arrested Sorio,
00:42a U.S. resident of over 20 years, in March 2025. He had been convicted for assault, theft,
00:48and burglary, among other crimes.
