Merseyrail has confirmed how its network will run over the festive period, including special Boxing Day trains and detailed last departure times across key routes.

00:00Festive travel can be a challenge and Mersey Rail says it wants passengers to have clear information about how the network will operate across the Christmas and New Year period.
00:10The operator has confirmed that trains will run every day except Christmas Day and it's set out a detailed timetable so people can plan ahead whether they're visiting, family, heading to work or travelling for events.
00:22On Christmas Eve, services will run throughout the day with last trains leaving stations at around half past eight in the evening.
00:31Mersey Rail has published specific departure times for each line including final services from West Kirby, New Brighton, Chester, Ellesmere Port, Headbolt Lane, Hunts Cross, Ormskirk and Southport as well as return journeys into Liverpool.
00:45These times provided directly by Mersey Rail show last departures beginning shortly after eight o'clock and continuing until just after nine p.m. depending on the route.
00:57No trains will operate on Christmas Day.
01:00Then on Boxing Day, a special service will run from approximately nine o'clock in the morning until six p.m. in the evening with trains calling at selected stations across the network.
01:09Mersey Rail says additional trains will run between Liverpool and Aintree to support those attending the Boxing Day races.
01:18Services on New Year's Eve will operate as normal with the last trains departing from around eight o'clock in the evening.
01:25On New Year's Day, Mersey Rail will run a 30-minute Sunday timetable across all lines.
01:32The operator says full details of first and last departures are also available through its website and journey planner
01:38and that all other days over the festive periods will operate to the normal timetable unless otherwise stated.
