00:00Sorry, that was stupid of me, why did I do that?
00:05This is a normal onion, and this is an onion that doesn't make you cry, apparently.
00:09The tearless onions are called Sunions, part of the Waitrose number one range, the expensive range.
00:14And apparently, they're a real game changer for the onion sector.
00:19I'm going to try and cut up both onions to see whether the Waitrose really managed to source an onion that doesn't make you cry.
00:25The tearless onion.
00:30So I wipe up my eye. I'm not crying, I'm literally wiping it on my face.
00:36Smelling it, nothing.
00:39I wonder whether there's a bit less flavour in Sunions.
00:44That is not very potent flavour, very subtle.
00:47You could eat that like an apple.
00:49Shall I?
00:52I mean, it's not unpleasant, it's nice.
00:54Tastes like an onion, but a very weak one.
00:57Very sweet.
00:58It's maybe compromised the flavour slightly.
01:00Right, this is a normal onion from the bottom of my bowl.
01:06There is no doubt I can certainly feel way more than the Sunions.
01:10I'll rub it in my eye if you like.
01:12The normal onion.
01:14Oh yeah, okay.
01:15It's stinging.
01:16That was stupid of me, why did I do that?
01:22Sorry.
01:24Quite nice though.
01:25It's sort of like tangy and pangs on the back of your throat.
01:27That's what you want from an onion.
01:29That's what brings about the flavour.
01:30To conclude, these don't make you cry, but you're not going to get as good a pasta sauce.
01:36I would rather cry and have flavour.
01:38You know, no pain, no gain.
01:39No pain, no gain.
