00:00Last leg of our quarterfinals here in the bog and what a few weeks it's been

00:04By the end of tonight, three families will become two. The pressure is well and truly on

00:15Let's go go go go

00:19You're there, you've won you another few years to go

00:22Come on, we'll meet it. Let's go, let's go

00:30Welcome to Ireland's fittest family in the last two rounds of our Helen back quarterfinals two more families crashed out of the competition

01:00In the first of our quarterfinals, we said goodbye to Michael Dara's burns from Dublin

01:04You owe me big time. I know. How much?

01:12And then last week in our second quarterfinal, we lost Andrew's family, the Hilliards from Kildare

01:19We're gonna have this the rest of our lives look back on you know

01:21Tonight it's the turn of Anna Geary and her family the cars from Westmead

01:31I'm gonna get home nice and early. That's my attitude. I'm like, let's win it. Let's like let's set the tone

01:37Ellen keen and her family the stewards from Dublin

01:40Up against davy and anna today

01:42Hopefully the stewards will be able to hear my voice over the two of them because again

01:45They are very loud and davy fits and his family the mcdonalds from mayo

01:50I don't think that's gonna phase them. I think they'll be ready for hardship and I think that's a good thing, you know, so

01:56While davy has his other family through to our semi-finals, anna and ellen are both down to one family each

02:02Yeah, look, it's great to be in the quarterfinals

02:04The competition is at a really high standard this year coaches like myself who've already lost families

02:10So my back is against the wall. I think anna definitely is going to be tough competition

02:14Seeing davy in the heats. I know how he works now. I know he's a little bit sly

02:19There's always something going on with davy. So I just have to try and keep my eye on him

02:23I'm looking forward to it. I'm buzzing and where to go

02:25These three families will push themselves to the limit knowing one of them will be going home and won't make it to next week's semi-final in draw to port

02:35Let's get things started

02:37We've got davy fitz anna geary ellen keen and it's so good to have the girls. Oh my god

02:49This you

02:50Ellen it is your very first time experiencing the vlog right?

02:54It's a bit nerve-wracking. So how do you think your family are gonna cope?

02:57Well, I think having lost my shoes in the heat

03:00I think just that little bit of extra tire shoes as tight as possible

03:04If we can keep all the shoes on I think we're doing well

03:07Um, I hate to point out the obvious but davy fitz you have got two families and you're the only coach that's standing with two families right now

03:14Are you hoping to make it into the semi-finals with both?

03:17Yeah, listen, we'll be trying hard now. I have the two girls to gang up with me today. So I know i'm under pressure

03:22Well, um, listen the bogus are in this and I think we'll all admit there's no tactics here

03:27It's get through the bog, but you know what bring it on. Let's see how we got

03:31It's been a long time since we've had three families in the bog at the same time

03:34And this is the thing okay as experienced as you both are in doing time trials in the bog actually being up against each other physically

03:41I love it

03:42I'm like I was here years ago when we saw good like it was everyone in the bog

03:47Just keep your fight in the lane that one all right

03:49Look at this he's telling me to tone it down

03:51I actually i'm sorry we can just cut there

03:54Um, are you both actually really ganging up on davy? 100% yeah

03:58Okay, I will check in with you guys later stop having a go with me start having a go with each other because i'm out of here

04:12I don't know he was a bit sneaky in the heats

04:14I was not but if that's in your head i'm good i'm glad i'm in your head that's fine

04:18That's once a party you're leaving rent free in our head that's good happy this is working well let's go let's go

04:27Here's how our quarterfinals work tonight our three families will take on battle of the bog and then each will take on a time trial our brand new event called monkey madness

04:38They'll be awarded three points for first place two points for second and one point for third the points are then added together

04:45And the top family will go straight through to the semi-final

04:49The bottom two families will have to face off in the eliminator to see who gets that last place in our semi-final

04:59It's the last of our quarterfinals here at the bog and the mudslinging is set to continue like actual mudslinging

05:06That's right lads. This is battle of the bog

05:09This is a three family relay race where two members of each family start battle of the bog with a cold watery cargo net crawl followed by an a-frame climb

05:22From here the family pairs must work together as they begin to navigate the muddy bog

05:27A series of under and over logs of different heights and sizes await before plunging back into the deepest muddiest longest and most draining part of the course

05:36Next they have to climb the ladder before sprinting to the finish line when the family pair are standing on the pallet

05:42The next two from the family can start the race following the same route the clock only stops when all four family members are standing on the pallet

05:52Yeah, the battle of the bog is gonna be it's a difficult old run now. We know what the story is, okay

05:57We're gonna have to help each other through here. It'll take everything we've got now to get through that

06:01This is going to require us working together

06:03I think I could be the weak link in this but I'm gonna go in and try my best anyways

06:07I get through it as much as I can and Matthew hopefully get me the rest of the way

06:10One thing we've got going for us is we're never giving up all right

06:13I'm feeling tired already before I get into it because I did a Helen back here once upon a time

06:20So I'm not looking forward to it

06:21If we're out in front we dictate the pace we dictate the space and we dictate the mindset

06:27You know the mental side kicks in if things aren't going well or

06:30Surprises throughout the event that you just have to work through any of the problems that that might come up

06:36Everything is about surface tension light light light

06:38This bit looks okay

06:39That bit looks okay

06:41It's that bit over there

06:42They say if you stop you can sink

06:45If you think you're gonna have a heart attack keep going

06:47Be like the bog to each other just make sure that you all finish here together

06:52It's an unknown how we're going to get on so hopefully I don't sink too much

06:56Don't lose any shoes and manage to get out the other side

06:58We are the bog people

07:12Starting the first race of the night are Alicia and Liam Stewart

07:15Simon and Elizabeth Carr and Matthew and Leah McDonough

07:18Three

07:19Two

07:20One

07:22So away we go in the battle of the bog

07:26Stewart's wearing blue the cars are in black and the McDonough's are in orange

07:31There's an early lead for the Carr family that's Simon who's gone out very fast

07:36So they're over that a-frame and this is the uh the easy stuff

07:40Gentle stroll through a big puddle

07:45And now it's starting to get a bit competitive at the back isn't it there's some jostling for position

07:52So that is Matthew McDonough out in front Simon Carr behind him

07:56And they're still battling with each other just trying to get any sort of an edge now it starts to get very difficult

08:02And they start to slow down but it's a big race already that was Leah McDonough

08:11Coaches shadowing each other as well

08:14So there is Simon Carr the former tennis professional

08:19Matthew McDonough helping his sister Leah she's only 21

08:23So Simon is just waiting for Elizabeth to join him here are the two stewards

08:32Alicia and Liam

08:38So the coaches know what this is all about

08:42There's a little problem there for Alicia Stewart she went under that log she has to go over it so she'll have to go back and do it again

08:50Simon and Elizabeth Carr are together

08:53So we should just uh correcting her mistake and she's there with her brother

08:59And away they go again now it gets really really

09:04Donners are together as well Matthew and Leah

09:09The other two members of each family are waiting down at the start

09:13So Matthew encouraging Leah and now he's gonna try and drag her along Simon Carr out and then back in he's almost out of the bog

09:25Yes, he is just has a look over his shoulder to see where his sister Elizabeth is she's not too far behind

09:30So Matthew is still going with that technique of pulling Leah across the top of the bog and it's working

09:35So Anna Geary is coaching the car family and the first two are out there to go up the ladder

09:45Stand on

09:47The finishing platform and then Gareth and Tom can start

09:51So they're home and here come the other two Gareth and Tom

09:57Tom said he wasn't looking forward to this at all because he is previous experience of hella back

10:01So very tight in the battle for second and third the stewards and blue the mcdonough's in orange

10:10Ellen is coaching the stuart family davy's got the mcdonough's

10:15And the leaders are the cars

10:19Now followed by his dad tom

10:20Come on

10:22Alicia and Liam are the two youngest competitors in this race tom's got stuck already needs a hand he's got it

10:29Wow look at this the battle for second and third the mcdonough's in orange the stuarts are in blue

10:35And the stuarts just holding on to second place at the moment

10:40There's nothing between the two of them we're back with the leaders that is gareth carr

10:44And look at this matthew mcdonough has got out of the bog

10:46Alicia and Liam trying to do the same the cars slowing down which is understandable

10:54But look at that the stuarts have got out that is brilliant from alicia and liam they're in second place and the mcdonough's have got stuck

11:03So liam stuart is first up that ladder alicia's just behind

11:10But they are in second can alicia join him the mcdonough's well lia's really got stuck that's alicia

11:15She looks absolutely shattered big performance there in second place and now it's owen and flaw

11:21Mom and dad who take this on leah's finally got out of the box

11:25She's exhausted too. It does that to you as we've seen

11:29So on and his wife law starting and now matthew just walks onto the platform there in third place leah

11:36Will join him very shortly, but the cars are going along very nicely. So leah has made it home

11:44Pass and his grandson daniel start off now. They've ground to make up

11:50Owen and block stuart moving nicely

11:54Garrett and tom a bit slow down tom is absolutely stuck under the mud it just drags you down and underneath it

12:01Come on owen come on blah

12:03having daniel big start by the two of them

12:07But they have work to do

12:12Well that is some sight isn't it

12:17Started well daniel just moving in front of his granddad

12:19In second place at the moment owen and block stuart

12:27For ellen king

12:29And here they come to that log you can see the mist that got under that one

12:36So gareth and tom is out of the bog he is shattered as well

12:40He wasn't looking forward to it at all

12:42It's very nearly done just get up the steps of that ladder and they will claim maximum points and win the battle of the bog

12:50But pat and daniel mcdonough have closed right up on owen and block stuart

12:56But here come gareth and tom carr and they have won battle of the bog to claim maximum points. That's some performance from them

13:02But now it's about second and third the stuart's just holding on to second by their fingernails their muddy fingernails admittedly

13:11Alicia and liam stuart can't watch look how tight this is between the two of them

13:15And this is the toughest part of the course owen and blah stuart are out in front at the moment

13:20But only just and davy wants pat and daniel to push even harder and they are daniel powering through

13:27The mud and look at this can they overtake them the stuarts have got stuck

13:31Davey wants more much more but the stuarts are moving again they are moving again and they got out of the bog

13:36That's brilliant from owen and blah and up they go to the top of this ladder what a fantastic race a brilliant battle for second and third

13:43The cars were impressive but here come the stuarts from scurries in county dublin and they are going to take second place

13:50Wonderful finish to the race really outstanding performance second place for them the mcdonough's just have to finish it out to claim one point

14:01Your left foot on the side of the ditch left foot on the side of the ditch

14:09That was a that was a tough tough course now it was a draining come on come on

14:14Really really disappointed in just myself like i feel like the lads i'm great but

14:24Really disappointed in how i did

14:27I am so confident that you can come good for us

14:31Yeah but there is more there there is more there i love this family their attitude is brilliant

14:36But that was just a small little kick that might give us a bit more going forward now

14:40We see what you have in you okay so it's now you get ticked all right

14:43That you did such a good job that's why you feel bad you didn't give up

14:47Well alicia spent every single amount of energy that was in her body so she had nothing else to give and she just collapsed

14:55She impressed me so much she gave it her all and i felt so guilty at the end because i literally was like

15:02i screamed at this girl to finish fast and now she's like in an ambulance

15:10But thankfully she's made a full recovery

15:13Yeah i don't know like nothing like that's ever happened to me before um

15:17Maybe it's like over exertion i don't know my leg stopped working i think it was like from being stuck in the mud

15:22It kind of went dead or something but uh yeah it was it was weird

15:27Anna and the cars you made light work at that anyway it didn't seem like it bothered you one bit

15:32Elizabeth you do triathlons you're a triathlete how does that compare

15:36uh not a lot but um i suppose the advice i gave to the family beforehand was kind of bringing the triathlon

15:42piece in from the transition side where it's really important not just the main phases themselves

15:47but linking them together and just working through all all phases

15:50yeah and it kind of unfair that you've got an assistant coach isn't it is it is it i'm literally like

15:56i'm kicking back yeah elizabeth has an assistant coach tonight this is great that's what you want

16:03after our first event anna's cars are at the top of the table with three points ellen stewart's have

16:08got two points and davies mcdonough's are in last place with just one point

16:13faster go go go go you're on your feet go go go we still do it now we still do this

16:19no no no you can't hold her onto the ropes

16:32welcome back to ireland's fittest family we're knee deep in the last of our quarterfinals here

16:37at the box finish job and before the break anna's car family stormed ahead come on we

16:42keep out here leaving davies mcdonough's bogged down in last place but it's all still to play for

16:49because there's mud glory and pride on the line

16:56it's time now for a brand new event and our families are about to go bananas

17:00this one's all about grip guts and glory it's monkey madness

17:04this brand new event will push our families to the max from the start line all family members run

17:12down a track and into the woods where they tackle a cargo net a frame and a run under a cage then it's

17:19a sprint down the field to our tower obstacle called squeezy dozen once through this they have to tackle

17:25two climbing walls before going over under and over the giant spools then it's the horizontal bars

17:33a balance beam a vertical bar and a rope swing to the other side the clock stops once all four

17:41members of the family are standing on the hill at the end of the course

17:46meanwhile anna met up with her family the cars on the mullingar athlone greenway for some free

17:51competition prep harlan smithers family throws new challenges at us all the time we can't prepare

17:56for them but the one thing we know that is coming up always is a wall what i'd love to do first

18:02is just see what you do you leave your egos at the door when it comes to walls it's not about the

18:07person that's the best at the bottom it's about who we can get up the fastest afterwards i've done

18:12my share of wall climbing for my army days but i have forgotten most of it it was great having anna

18:18down to visit us in mullingar just to kind of go through a few little bits as a team i don't think

18:23the fact that we're anna's only team adds any more pressure i think we're just following our own path

18:27so what you want to do is get your hands up as high as you possibly can and then pull yourself up

18:37and swing your leg and you're down the other side it's that easy that's how it's done it's my years

18:42of experience i'm just gonna leave myself down this side the one i'll come back around okay

18:50brand new event monkey madness it's ironic because the only thing you actually need it is cam this is

18:56endurance a lot of upper body as opposed to the bog being lower body there's so much things that

19:01can go wrong in events like these like we're in a position now that nobody else is in

19:05they're all waiting for you to mess up that's the only way they get straight through it seems to be

19:09quite a long endurance type event but also there's elements of kind of uh like the monkey bars

19:16things like that thrown in that you're not really that used to we just need to make sure that

19:20we're always thinking about the what if part yeah i have loads of concerns and principally my age is

19:25my biggest concern going through with the monkey bars at this stage ready to go with this brand new

19:30event the car family from westmeath dad tom elizabeth and simon and gareth a tree a doe hey paulo donovan

19:41gets us underway the referee and off they go they won the first event so they're in a very good position

19:50so anagiri wants them to push right from the start

19:54a frame net is tricky and now you've got to get down low the height of that frame is difficult to

20:06judge what way do you do it you can spin underneath it or you can do what tom carr is doing here just

20:11crawl under it doesn't matter what way you do it just get away from it so this is a good start and the

20:18car family will set the time for the rest to try and better squeeze he does it again much more difficult

20:27than it appears this is a powerful opening from the cars so simon and gareth are through there elizabeth

20:39joining them here we go get it push so this climbing wall you can't touch the top of it and just use those

20:47handles to move from one side to the other making contact with the last step on the near side but

20:54this is about a minute and a half gone and tom carr is with the rest of his family now

21:03so the giant spools over the first one and then under the next one and over the final one

21:12bear in mind here there's four climbing elements coming up tom carr has to go back to the start

21:17so here we go so once tom carr gets across here elizabeth just slowing things down she's okay as

21:24well so once simon and gareth complete this final part of the course they can go back and help the

21:30others if they need it so they're very nearly there and tom has just about got away from the first

21:38climbing wall yeah you may contact with that final step on it so that part the rope swing is the only

21:45part of the course that you have to do on your own they can get help with the other parts the other

21:50climbing elements so tom carr is very nearly away from the second climbing wall again that's very

21:57difficult and you can see elizabeth getting assistance here that's all within the rules

22:01come on under here working closely with tom carr so now elizabeth is on the balance beam

22:11let's go so tom can get help when he gets up to the water elizabeth and she has to do that part on

22:17her own but she can't be handed the rope she has to swing across herself though they just need to get

22:23tom carr home and then get up to the top of the hill elizabeth's just waiting to see so tom they're losing a

22:30little bit of time here tom got away there all within the rules she's been helped across these

22:39bars just has to do the rope swing on his own so simon and gareth step away and tom is very nearly

22:48there he's got across and out they come and this will be the time for the rest to try and beat three

22:53minutes and 30 seconds we will find out just how good that is later on

22:56a stand-alone performance we did well um there was one maybe slip up along the way with dad just

23:05misstepping on the on the wall just such an unfortunate slip we were all oh the thing about

23:10it is it's the fact that you haven't done it before so you can't plan it really it's only when you get

23:14to it and then you say god i should have put my foot on that one or not put my foot on that one

23:19it was still a really good time we don't know what the other families are going to do we don't know the

23:23permutations and where we're going to end up on the table it's just that i know that it wasn't how

23:27they wanted the race to go they have really high standards for themselves

23:33davy traveled west to meet his family the mcdonough's and their local boxing club

23:37well how are you how's it going you know hell i'm back is coming the next day right so that's going

23:43to be tough it's we're going to have to grind that out so the work we'll do today we'll do a bit of

23:48hardship today three two one let's go well done well done the two lazy guys here come on we out

23:54last night we out last night they were out last night aren't they we were hoping we'd get davy

24:00it's so great to have him he's such a great motivator come on now keep going keep going

24:04he's passionate he pushes you to your limit he really knows how to get the best out of you next

24:09weekend is massive we've got to get ready we've got to qualify listen we were average this morning

24:15very average we've got to absolutely give this everything we can okay we don't want to finish

24:20third here do we no no we do not there's way more in us than that okay so let's give it everything

24:24we have no one let's go at it okay okay let's go let's go guys let's go i'm gonna try our best like

24:28we really need to redeem ourselves off to the first event me especially i feel like i kind of let the

24:33lads down a good bit davy how are we feeling feeling good i think lia's too hard on herself um i think

24:38she does absolutely incredible and uh we're going to give this a go there's a long way to go here yet like

24:44this isn't done to the final whistle so let's keep going no matter what story is next it's davy's

24:49mcdonough's matthew pass leah and daniel three three minutes and 30 seconds is the time the cars did

25:03and that's what the mcdonough's have to try and better move on they were third in the first event

25:08so they need a big showing here the mcdonough's from county mayo the only family from connect in

25:14this year's competition they love boxing and of course they love the gaa so davy wants them to push

25:23out in front at the moment that is dad and granddad granddad to daniel and dad to matthew and lia so

25:37squeezy does it faster i'm not sure i'd like to take that on but anyway quick quick quick

25:42so the two lads are out in front here lia arriving now and matthew at that climbing wall right through

25:50it lia so pat and lia close together matthew's got away from the first wall it's a good time it feels

25:59fast doesn't it three minutes and 30 seconds was the car's time that's it that's it goodbye so over the

26:08spool under the next one and over the final one so the aim here for matthew and daniel is to get the

26:13final part of the course completed as quickly as possible because once they get through the four

26:18final elements they can go back and help lia and pass if they need it that's it easy okay so matthew has

26:25been powerful all the way through come on yeah need your truth daniel goes over the first of those spools

26:30there's lia come on come on very good showing from her well this is the only part not that matthew has

26:37any help there but you have to get through that final part yourself you can be handed the rope

26:41that's all within the rules quickly quickly over the over so davy will be delighted with the way

26:45they're performing here feels like and looks like a very good showing from the mcdonald's there's

26:51daniel at those bars and matthew's heading back down just to see how he can help out the rest of his

26:57family pat's on the way this assistance is all within the rules here no issue there daniel

27:08very nearly across and pat goes into the water he tried that himself he's going to need some help

27:12go back and hit the road and go back to the girl so quickly get right in and help his dad and come

27:18through to leah and daniel will help out as well so you have to enter from the front of the obstacle

27:24go into the water fast fast fast fast they've made parts of this course look very easy and it's

27:29certainly anything but so pass gets onto the balance beam now leah is very nearly across to the final

27:36element the rope swing get the second offer get the second offer get to the outside so that rope is

27:42handed to her and then the assistance has to move away daniel there and leah has got across

27:49and now it's just down to pass and pat has got across too fantastic performance look at that time

27:55wow they've blown the car's time away three minutes and five seconds our new leaders

28:01don't think we could have done it better honestly absolutely nothing went through my head

28:05during the events what's that clacks and goes one two three it's all a blur sure look if we are in

28:10an eliminator we just got to take it as it is and and just keep going forward because we definitely

28:14do not want to go out in killerudry again leah you were a bit hard on yourself before you came into

28:18monkey madness how are you feeling now how do you think you did i know i was happy now with how i

28:22done so i was happy i was kind of just only worried about the tires down there my frame your head

28:27wouldn't fit through but no i got through fine i couldn't ask anymore really happy with them

28:32whether we come forward second first they couldn't give any more

28:38ellen arranged to meet her family the stewards for a high energy workout hello stewards welcome

28:43to jump zone i brought you here today for a little bit of training a little bit of fun a chance to work

28:49on your communication and your teamwork challenging the core today and getting you know balance going on

28:54and a bit of ramp practice i want them to see how good they are and hopefully that will boost their

28:59confidence going forward to the quarterfinals yeah we definitely need some practice on the ramp

29:04the ramp was always going to be tough and it still was tough no matter how many times i do it

29:09so the stewards entered ireland for this family to work together as a team but we did a bit of dodgeball

29:14and i don't know there was a bit of aggression there pent-up anger for things that might mean

29:19they're great kids 90 percent of the time there's 10 percent of the time you want to kill them with the

29:22stewards by my side and getting through the quarter final i don't think there's any reason why i can't be

29:28crowned queen of ireland for this family okay if the stewards beat the mcdonald's time of 305

29:36they'll be going straight through to the semi-finals which means the other two families are going to be

29:39left in the eliminator this is so exciting i know that you can go to the depths of hell we've seen it

29:46ended up in an ambulance already but look at you now you're you're full of beans you're as bright as

29:52anything yeah i wasn't feeling great after um the first challenge but i feel revived now do some jumps

29:59the monkey bars uh i think the kids will be able to get across and swing like monkeys um i maybe might

30:06be the opposite i might fall like a dead weight they're not as tired it seems as the other families

30:12so i'm really optimistic i'm really excited and i think that's the best thing about this time trial is

30:18that i actually think they're excited to do it are you ready for this yeah yeah let's go okay let's go

30:24last to go ellen stewarts elisha flaw liam and owen remember the stewarts were second in our first

30:37event today and it leaves them in that weird place but they know they need a big showing here three

30:44minutes and five seconds a brilliant performance by the mcdonough family puts them in the lead in this

30:50event good job so elisha just uh in front of her mom blah there she's feeling much better she was

30:58exhausted after that first event today everybody was but now they've got to dig deep again and push on

31:06they run by all those obstacles now down to the bottom of the course

31:12they're very nearly there that's uh elisha who's in third at the moment the two lads

31:18liam and owen have gone out in front so owen is first to squeeze he does it

31:26just readjust the helmet keep going

31:28go go go go go elisha just in front of her mom's law and owen is up to the first of those

31:36climbing walls closely followed by liam he's only 15 elisha is 16

31:43and it's a good start the time is good

31:49at wall number two

31:50so no mistakes they've been pretty perfect up to this point haven't they but they need to be

31:59three minutes and five seconds owen's over the first of the spools under the next one and over

32:05the final one just like we've seen before the two lads will try and finish out the four remaining

32:12elements over the water at the end of the course and then they're permitted to go back and help elisha

32:19and flaw if they need help so that's liam and elam wants law just to quicken up a little bit

32:27for two minutes

32:31really need to be flawless between now and the end that's liam has got over the balance beam and now

32:39bars over the water alicia waiting for her mom blah

32:42up over this is going to be tight so now liam can go back and help his mom and his sister

32:53so you can hear the tension in ellen's voice can't you this is going to be tight

32:56owen can help as well but if he's gone into the water he has to go around the gate at the front

33:01he got into the water the wrong way so this is very very tight three minutes and five seconds

33:07the mcdonough's time blob and helped across the balance beam that's good

33:14and now the rope swing at the end elisha there she's gone up to the top so she's finished and

33:20now it's down to blow on the rope swing at the end but the two lads are helping her with that and

33:24they're not allowed to do that she has to do that on her own they can handle the rope but she has to

33:29swing across herself this is costing them pressure time and look at that they're not going to make

33:33three minutes and five seconds inside that time and that mistake right at the end has cost them

33:38first place by five seconds time goes by so quickly but at the same time time goes by so

33:48slowly so in my head that little uh mess up there at the end was like 20 seconds it could have been

33:54three i don't know blah you had a nice um finish swinging across the water how was that for you

33:59yeah we mucked up the first time you know i was getting my usual like you know kerry lift across

34:05but that wasn't allowed no no no no no back back you can't hold her onto the ropes all the refs is

34:10tickler like that isn't he yeah so annoying so annoying i know but someone has to enforce the rules

34:16because no one else is going to it'd be very sad if if we like lost by three seconds just because it's

34:22the thing at the end there shirts if you had to take on an eliminator how do you think you would fare

34:27um i think we're ready for it i mean i think that was a confidence boost i think we all handled that

34:33really well so if yeah if it came to it i think we'd be ready for it hi families well done today you

34:42did it unbelievable between the bog and also monkey madness but it's time for me now to reveal the family

34:50who will be going through to the semi-finals and the family who are on four points are

35:02the stewards the mcdonough's and the cars you have all drawn which means the family with the fastest time

35:14in our time trial we'll be going straight through to our semi-finals and that family is

35:22davy and the mcdonough's congratulations

35:27really proud of all of us as a family i think it was well within our capabilities so i'm delighted

35:32with how we done davy that means you've got two families in the semi-finals which means

35:37anna and the cars ellen and the stewards get ready for the fight of your life in our eliminator best of

35:46luck you should know better whatever about you well i didn't say anything here we go now go go come

35:53on you're nearly there welcome back to ireland's fittest family it's the last of our quarterfinals and

36:13it's ellen stewart's versus anna's cars and the stakes couldn't be higher because by the end of this race

36:19either ellen or anna will be out of the competition tonight's eliminator is no walk in the park it

36:27begins with a sprint to collect a 30 kilogram log which they must run with together around the field

36:34then they face a relentless series of a frames and walls if that isn't enough they have to navigate

36:39a tricky balance beam before the three meter walls await these are followed by a plunge into a freezing

36:45ice bath next it's a climb up onto a platform and down a cargo net covered ladder finally the ramp

36:52awaits the first family to the top of the ramp wins a place in next week's semi-final the losing family

36:58is eliminated ellen anna not the way we saw this day going both of you in an eliminator again yeah okay

37:10i know okay i'm just stating the facts anna right now we did make the mistake though of saying that we

37:15were ganging up and david earlier on so he kind of has the last laugh he's probably at home in claire

37:19by now i mean you should know better whatever about you ellen okay you get a pass you should

37:25know better i literally didn't say anything yeah but you thought it you thought it it was worse okay

37:31all joking aside you are in an eliminator one of you will be leaving the competition tonight and i know

37:36that neither of you want to go ellen how are you in the stewards feeling i don't want to go i'm so sad

37:42i've been having such a fun time here and like the stewards they're the youngest family here and

37:47and it's taken a little while to kind of bring them out of their shell and get the confidence up

37:51and i think they're really ready to show you what they can do and i'm really just hoping that

37:56they can nail it here in the eliminator obviously you know we look at the two families they are

38:03completely different but both sets of families have got different skill sets you know how are

38:07yourself and the car is going to manage this well the stewards are very fast so you know speed on

38:11the log would help there is a ruin in it that's not going to be where the cars would excel the walls

38:17anything like that physical strength they do have that they're tall that's what i'm hoping now ellen

38:21does have one over me though because they've already done the wall and a ramp in an eliminator so

38:26they've already gone through that and for confidence she's right that's a massive thing yeah so i'm just

38:30hoping with the cars that when the adrenaline is flowing and the pressure is on they've shown it already

38:34they can produce it this is where this is where i need it anna has so much experience so like she

38:40definitely she's calling you a veteran she's calling you a veteran i got the youngest i got the youngest

38:46family this is it the last eliminator of our quarterfinals ellen stewarts are going head to

38:53head with anna's cars and the only way to the semis is up quite literally the family to the top of this

38:59ramp first takes it all here we are the eliminator again do you know what they did an eliminator before

39:08they are well capable of it i think that kind of gives us an edge and will stand to us one more

39:13tough race that's it semi-final they haven't done walls and ramps yet so this is their opportunity now

39:18so the way you're looking at this now is this is an opportunity like if you're going to get into

39:22ireland's for this family final you have to do walls you have to do wraps there's a lot of things

39:26there that we haven't done before so i suppose it's those kind of things that we're a bit nervous

39:30about we don't have that much time to warm up now so let's my only concern is that ellen's family

39:35the stewards have already been in an eliminator yeah like we're a bit dead but you know we're

39:39we're still determined to uh give it a good shot okay well will we try and lift the energy a little bit

39:46yeah for me it's kind of resignation we're doing it let's do our best uh let's get it over and done

39:51with and whatever happens happens yeah get the body moving oh yeah that ice bath as i stand here

39:57shivering is not very appealing okay stretch it out you should be relishing yourself you're imposing

40:02you know like they can't believe they're against gene the eliminator so use that look at that ramp

40:09i want to see you on top of that ramp before the other family okay when you're going up that ramp

40:14one time only ready to battle it out for the last semi-final place

40:18ellen stewart's from dublin in blue anna's cars from westmeath in black

40:26three two one paulo donovan gets us underway and here we go there's just one place left in the

40:36semi-finals and that will be decided over the next few minutes over the course of this very very tough

40:43eliminator the stewarts have the early lead carrying that log which weighs 30 kilograms

40:51so they've gone up very fast

40:57huge pressure on both families

40:59they come out into the field and they'll see the obstacles laid out in front of them so the

41:08stewarts lead there they are that is liam and owen who go over first

41:14so ellen and anna are very invested in this as you can imagine brilliant start by simon carr you can see

41:25him out in front at the moment all on his own here comes his dad tom

41:29get up

41:34simon really is a man in a hurry isn't he over the first of those small walls

41:39making that look easy liam stewart just behind him

41:45now they have to slow everything down at the balance beam

41:48glass just pushed over by her daughter getting over that wall listen whatever works

42:00so now this wall is three meters high

42:06elisha's had a fantastic day with the rest of her family so has elizabeth carr

42:12nice and easy remember if you come off the beam you have to go back and start again that's not a

42:16problem for elizabeth carr here she is at the wall so simon is there waiting

42:24and that's a little bit of a misstep from simon and elizabeth carr there's owen stewart

42:29up at the top of the wall about to be joined by his daughter alicia

42:34so the car's not going well at the wall the stewarts it looks much smoother it's all about

42:40teamwork calm communication law stewart now up at the top so that's three out of four and just liam

42:46has left down there the cars haven't got anybody to the top of the wall yet that's about to change

42:50right now and it does there's tom and he is going to go over is he yes he's going over so they've

42:58lost a bit of time here and the stewarts looking strong looking powerful and liam is very nearly at

43:04the top there he is so owen was the anchorman at the top so the stewarts lead now they've got away from

43:10the wall they're together tom carr is on his own up at the water this is not everybody's favorite

43:17obstacle but they've made that look pretty good and this is not so good from the carr family this has

43:23cost them valuable time now they're away from that three meter high wall they go around the barrel

43:30thomas got away from this tom carr and the rest of the family taking this on now into the ice bar

43:35let's go but the stewarts all together and they're in front here come the rest of the car family

43:46so they've closed that up a little bit the stewarts not brilliant on that ladder with the cargo net above

43:53them and look at that the cars have been very quick there and now it's down to the rock the two families

43:59are up there we've had one fail from the stewarts already remember they're all absolutely soaking that is

44:04liam stewart who has a go there's a fail from the cars too so the tension builds owen stewart they've

44:11done an eliminator already they know what this ramp is all about but the pressure and the tension is huge

44:16now that was brilliant from alicia she tried to go for the dry part of the ramp so paula donovan just

44:21fixing the map on the stewart side of this big big ramp another attempt that is liam stewart he's come

44:29down as well now a big leap forward that was fantastic from simon carr wow got up there so

44:36easily so they've won up there the stewards haven't got anybody up to the top now gareth has a go and

44:41simon has a hold of gareth's hands tries to drag him up the cars have been powerful here and the

44:47stewarts well they're using up priceless energy with each failed attempt the cars have got two up to the top

44:54of the ramp now it's elizabeth and liam stewart again oh he very nearly had that so elizabeth will

45:01the two lads have her this will be three out of four if they could get her to the top and they've done

45:06that but the stewards are really struggling on the ramp another failed attempt more energy gone

45:12so elizabeth carr is up there now it's just down to tom a ga legend and off he goes and tom comes back

45:19down so that could open the door for the stewards a little bit another fail alicia stewart comes down

45:24liam's back down the bottom as well anagiri just wants tom to calm things down he is absolutely

45:30exhausted all eight of them are exhausted at the moment that's own stewart he's gone down again oh my

45:36word the ramp has been their undoing but they're not out of this yet because the cars can't get their

45:43dad up to the top liam stewart down again here comes tom carr the three of them leaning over the top

45:51of the ramp of the ramp with the two bags they've got one hand up there and they try and drag him up

45:55this looks good this looks very good tom carr very nearly at the top he's stuck at the moment they

46:00just need one more push owen stewart takes the trainers off tom carr is at the top there he is

46:06he's got to the top they got him up there just needs to stand up absolutely totally drained exhausted

46:14the claxon goes and the cars are through they've got the last semi-final place what a race

46:32i'm going home thankfully it's not too far away but i'm going home it's bittersweet i think i think we

46:40we did well just just the ramp just didn't happen go for a grip do you know what it just got too wet

46:48and it's not a swimming pool i couldn't help them

46:54yeah no in fairness to liam and alicia they got very close it was tough but it was also fun so

46:59that was good i've started a trend and i'm really i don't know if i'm happy a bit being a trendsetter

47:04for this one but like the shoe losing the shoe i lost my shoes one shoe i mean in two shoes i

47:10wouldn't make it never mind in one shoes i think alicia might have clipped the back of my foot on the

47:14first you know uh little wall and i was like alicia my shoe yeah that's defo what happened

47:21so blood didn't even try and get up the ramp because she had one shoe on so i actually don't

47:25know if she would have been able to do it well i'll see when we watch back over and see what actually

47:29happen we'll have to zoom in on that yeah hopefully now this won't influence whether or not i'm invited

47:41back to ireland's phyllis family and if i am i promise i'll have loads of shoes i'll have so many

47:45shoes they won't know what to do with it well done super you're excellent well done you were brilliant

47:52you okay yes you were excellent well done good on like that was too close for comfort now i knew it was

47:57going to be a close race but i mean the shirts were ahead going into the wrap that was a sensational

48:03performance i know that you were a bit nervous going into it obviously it's a lot of running

48:07tommy how'd you find it a tough and we were a little bit apprehensive about going into it i think

48:12the first event knocked us back a small little bit because we thought we were in a good position

48:16but you know it comes down to it it's an eliminator it's a versus b and that kind of suits us a

48:21fair bit uh fairly buzzing to be honest with you we'll be on to the semi-finals now soon and yeah looking

48:26forward to that oh lads who knew the cars would be good at ramps congratulations you're going

48:32to the semi-finals of ireland's phyllis family well done to you oh as always it comes down to the

48:40ramp and what a way to finish off our quarter finals unbelievable stuff all together join us
