Actor Shane Jacobson has stepped into a new role as the proud co-owner of the Dederang Hotel, reopening the classic country Victoria pub to a crowd of hundreds and pledging to preserve what locals love most.
00:00Can we start with a round of applause so it feels like an official something?
00:04Actor Shane Jacobson is now the proud co-owner of The Wranger,
00:09reopening a classic country Victoria pub and pledging to preserve what locals love most.
00:15I can say whatever I want to you people because the people inside can't hear me,
00:18but you're our favourite people here so far.
00:21It's the people outside that we really love, but if you've got family inside...
00:24No flies on you guys.
00:25No flies on you guys.
00:26So wait, yeah, sorry about the flies.
00:29That's the only thing we can't organise or make disappear, but we've made the sunshine.
00:32Welcome to the official opening of The Wranger Hotel, The Detarang Hotel, as you would know it.
00:38We don't have much to say because we just want today to roll on.
00:40It's not about us babbling on.
00:42It's about you enjoying the pub.
00:43For the locals who come here often, we cannot thank you enough for your patience during the renovation.
00:49As we know, it was a renovation happening whilst people were still trying to have a beer and a meal.
00:54Our staff were incredible at letting us keep the place open, and the locals were incredible at enduring the renovation.
01:03The Portaloos weren't so popular during winter.
01:06They were very cold, and they were pretty ordinary, and yet you persevered with us.
01:12So again, thank you so, so much.
01:13So this is not an official speech of any kind.
01:15It's just to say welcome, welcome, welcome.
01:17Please enjoy the day.
01:18And it is my absolute pleasure to introduce our first band.
01:21This is the first time ever a band has performed on this stage, and I'm thrilled to say it's a band called the Duckdown Piggers.
01:28And the reason I think they are pretty fantastic is because, one, they are, and number two, that's my big brother right there, Clayton Jacobs, who made the movie Kenny.
01:36I told him to say that.
01:38Yeah.
01:38So, he doesn't know this, but all the proceeds from today are going to me.
01:43And I really appreciate that.
01:45So, if you like the film Kenny, don't thank me.
01:47Thank him.
01:48He wrote it.
01:48He directed it.
01:49I was just the guy that had to repeat the words.
01:51So, without any further ado, let's do what we're here to do a little bit further.
01:54Welcome to the Deterang Hotel.
01:56The runner is the Duckdown Piggers.
01:58We're really hoping this first song isn't an omen.
02:02The first song is called Burn Down the Liquor Store.
