All royalties from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s latest book will be donated to support underprivileged students.

Anwar made the announcement after the launch and book-signing of “Rethinking Ourselves” on Sunday (Dec 7), noting that the book emphasises the need for politicians to shift their mindset from clinging to power toward meaningful reforms.

He also expressed hope that the book would help change attitudes toward corruption, encouraging a culture of integrity in public service.

00:00Bukum ini sebenarnya dimulakan dengan beberapa catatan saya semasa di penjara Sungai Buloh.
00:12Kita relax, tenang, kita tulis. Ingat Azizah sikit, tulis banyak.
00:17Kemudian saya berbicara secara terang mengenai undang, ideas, sastra, hubungan masyarakat Melayu, China, India, Ustaz Nasabah, Sarawak.
00:33Tapi ideas, saya bukan cerita saya saja tapi banyak tentang pengalaman saya.
00:37Kali pertama dipercara tahun 1974 kerana bantu orang miskin balik.
00:43Kemudian naik sebagai menteri, teman menteri.
00:46Lapan masuk lagi.
00:49Itu pengalaman tapi saya cerita banyak tentang ideas.
00:53It's not an autobiography.
00:55It's not a story about Anwar per se.
00:58But you see the decades of development of ideas.
01:07Essentially from the 70s.
01:10What were the books that gave self-confident influence on my thinking?
01:16What's good for the nation in the 70s?
01:19Then you see in the 80s you are doing the government.
01:21What are the challenges?
01:23Issues of corruption, racism, religious extremism.
01:28How do you deal with it?
01:30How do you get Malaysians to work together?
01:32Love the nation?
01:33What about post-colonialism?
01:35We all hate colonial masters.
01:39But do you really understand what colonialism is about?
01:44They control your minds.
01:45They control your system.
01:47Should you be truly independent?
01:49How do you regain your composure and your dignity as a nation?
01:53How do you build this nation with such complexities?
01:57Different races, different regions.
01:59What's unique about Malaysia?
02:01How is it that we can survive with all these differences?
02:05How do we then take up measures to ensure that we continue to survive?
02:10Then, the 90s.
02:13Then, of course, another present term.
02:16Then, what are the issues?
02:19And then, of course, the new challenges.
02:21People say Z-Gist, which means the challenges of the times.
02:26When I grew up, there was no digital need for digital transformation.
02:33Nobody talks about energy transition, except for the club of rope.
02:41Only one earth.
02:42But it was because of the books that were read.
02:45But it does not permeate into the ground.
02:49And it was not taken up by the political leaders.
02:52Political leaders sometimes are the last
02:54to think about change, about reform.
02:58It is just about power.
03:01And how do then we change this?
03:03How do you get the people to understand
03:06that corruption is a menace?
03:09That it will destroy societies.
03:12Willions lost.
03:14And then, I also admit,
03:16well, it is not easy.
03:18When you do confront this,
03:19I thought everybody was supportive.
03:22Not necessarily so.
03:23Because the corrupt are oftentimes very rich,
03:28very powerful, very influential.
03:30How do you get the young to understand and appreciate this?
03:34Work together as a team.
03:36But this is, therefore, towards the end,
03:38about digital challenges of AI,
03:41about values.
03:42Do you just have expertise on AI?
03:44And forget that you are a human being.
03:48That you have feelings.
03:49You have to understand.
03:51And the technology, a machine,
03:53cannot decide for us on everything.
03:57They can decide on a lot of things.
03:59They have expertise and comprehension.
04:02But then, they should not decide about the values.
04:06How do you respect?
04:07Why do I promote the dialogue with Islam and Confucianism, for example?
04:13All these things, in the jottings,
04:17I do explain.
04:19I don't remember all,
04:20because it's a work of more than a decade.
04:24Jottings and jottings.
04:26And I'm not good at having that discipline of writing.
04:31But so, early this year,
04:36when I had to struggle,
04:37agreement with the publisher,
04:39I must finish.
04:41I had to do that.
04:43Aziz Admi complained, he says,
04:45that at my age,
04:46I shouldn't be working too hard
04:48and sleeping very late.
04:50And ignoring her.
04:53But so, that's why I said,
04:54my first book is a renaissance,
04:56a renaissance,
04:57dedicated to my parents.
04:58This book, Rethink Ourselves,
05:02a special dedication to my lovely wife, Aziz Ad.
05:09That's all I have to say.
05:10It's not a speech,
05:11I just want to talk about the book.
05:13Now, with this Hearst publication in London,
05:17Penguin, now this one, in Asia,
05:20and Hong Kong University Press,
05:22then of course,
05:24I will get a lot of royalty.
05:26All right?
05:29So, let me declare now,
05:31that every cent of the royalty
05:33will be spent on poor students
05:36in this country.
05:37But from the initial projection,
05:45it's going to be quite substantial.
05:48Because the books are quite expensive.
05:50So, I don't determine the price of the publisher.
05:54And thank you again,
05:55Pansri,
05:56for giving this opportunity.
06:07The book.
06:07I want to declare now theuch.
06:08The book popular is linked by Rogier No.
06:10The subject.
06:10The book in the book,
06:11of The Word,
06:12in the book.
06:12The book.
06:13It is versioned byč Rossell.
06:13I'm going to bloody next year.
06:14The book to keep Schloss V.
06:15Spirit the book,
06:15he's been a Russian ownership,
06:16and he's going to be very su好.
06:17And he's going to tell over you.
06:18The book is now you to tell.
06:19He's going to be called the vox,
06:20and his own turning神ność wasn't saying
06:21you,
06:21who will漴 places.
06:23And it will be reached,
06:24and you can't see it near the floor.
06:25This will be a manageablewater process.
06:26Now,
06:27it is something very interesting.
06:28There are the many times
