The journey of the Olympic flame around Italy begins

The first leg of the Olympic torch tour has started from the Stadio dei Marmi in Rome. The flame will pass through all the regions and arrive on the eve of the start of the Winter Games in Milan, on 5 February.

00:00The Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic flame has begun its journey, setting off from Rome on Saturday on a relay across Italy.
00:14The trek covers 12,000 kilometres, winding its way through all 110 Italian provinces, before reaching Milan's San Siro Stadium for the opening ceremony on the 6th of February.
00:27Olympic swimming champion Gregorio Baldinieri handed off to retired fencer Elisa Di Francisca, a two-time gold medalist at the 2012 London Games.
00:40She then passed it on to Gianmarco Tamberi, the 2020 Olympic high jump champion.
00:48The torch relay, which includes 60 city celebrations, will be in Naples for Christmas and Bari for New Year's Eve.
00:55In all, there will be over 10,000 torchbearers.
