The Works Ministry has urged the public to comply with closure signs after a couple died when their vehicle plunged into a ravine along a closed section of Jalan Kuala Jeneris-Sungai Gawi-Aring (Bukit Kawah) on Friday (Dec 5).

00:00The Works Ministry is urging the public to obey road closure signs after a tragic accident
00:08claimed the lives of an engaged couple along a sealed-off section of Jalan Kuala Janarius
00:13Sungai Gawi-Aring in Terengganu on Friday.
00:17In a Facebook post, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nantalingi expressed his condolences,
00:24stressing that authorities had already taken all necessary preventive measures, including
00:29closing the road and installing warning signs and concrete barriers, due to a landslide.
00:35According to the Hulu Terengganu Public Works Department, the victim's vehicle entered
00:39a stretch that had been completely closed to all road users.
00:44The closure had been legally gazetted under Section 70 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
00:51Following the incident, additional signs and barriers were installed in both directions,
00:56and police have opened a report regarding encroachment into the restricted route.

01:06Alexander added that the Ministry recently received approval for a 36 million ringgit bridge project
01:12in the area, with procurement already underway.
01:16The victims have been identified as 52-year-old teacher Hassan Shazali and 34-year-old canteen
01:22worker Suzaima Che Aziz, both from Kelantan and set to marry on December 25.
01:29Police say the couple's SUV skidded and plunged into a 200-foot ravine at Kilometer 52.
01:35Both were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
01:39The case is being investigated under Section 41 subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
