The Works Ministry is urging the public to obey road closure signs after a tragic accident
00:08
claimed the lives of an engaged couple along a sealed-off section of Jalan Kuala Janarius
00:13
Sungai Gawi-Aring in Terengganu on Friday.

In a Facebook post, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nantalingi expressed his condolences,
00:24
stressing that authorities had already taken all necessary preventive measures, including
00:29
closing the road and installing warning signs and concrete barriers, due to a landslide.
00:35
According to the Hulu Terengganu Public Works Department, the victim's vehicle entered
00:39
a stretch that had been completely closed to all road users.
00:44
The closure had been legally gazetted under Section 70 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
00:51
Following the incident, additional signs and barriers were installed in both directions,
00:56
and police have opened a report regarding encroachment into the restricted route.
01:02
Information about the landslide is also available on the Ministry's official portal.
01:06
Alexander added that the Ministry recently received approval for a 36 million ringgit bridge project
01:12
in the area, with procurement already underway.
01:16
The victims have been identified as 52-year-old teacher Hassan Shazali and 34-year-old canteen
01:22
worker Suzaima Che Aziz, both from Kelantan and set to marry on December 25.
01:29
Police say the couple's SUV skidded and plunged into a 200-foot ravine at Kilometer 52.
01:35
Both were thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.
01:39
The case is being investigated under Section 41 subsection 1 of the Road Transport Act 1987.
