00:00Let's head to the women's side.
00:02Give the women some love.
00:04Let's start with Brenda Freeze.
00:07Someone I've gotten to watch over the years,
00:12watching her recruit, watching her come into the area,
00:16and really do a great job of landing jersey talent.
00:21And right now they're ranked number seven in AAP women's top 25.
00:26They're arguably the best team in the Big Ten.
00:28And they're led by Kayleen Smickel.
00:32Speaking of recruiting the area, shout out Thomas Davis
00:38and his program at Exodus, one of the top EYBL teams on the women's side.
00:46Smickel's getting you about 13.7 points per game at 44.4% from the floor.
00:52And then there's Aluchi Okanwa.
00:57Getting you 13.3, 4.7, 2.4.
01:01It's been a good run for Brenda Freeze.
01:05But our teams have not made the deepest of runs lately in the NCAA tournament.
01:12This is the best team that she's had in a while.
01:16And with Smickel, you got a kid that can go get you a bucket.
01:22She had a good year at Rutgers when she started out.
01:26But she's in a bigger program, stayed in the Big Ten,
01:30which don't get me started with kids transferring in league.
01:34It's something I still can't wrap my head around.
01:37But Maryland's had a really good year.
01:39And I'm looking forward to seeing this team make a deep run,
01:44get to the Sweet 16, possibly a lead eight.
01:48Speaking of teams, I said last segment,
01:51who I thought could contend for a national championship,
01:55you got to look at Kim Mulkey in LSU.
01:58Number five in the AP Top 25.
02:01Listen, let's make no bones about it, okay?
02:05I am not the biggest fan of how Kim Mulkey acts.
02:10But I'll tell you this right now,
02:12I respect the hell out of her as a coach.
02:15And she's got a team with seven players averaging double figures.
02:25At record time, I believe they're 8-0.
02:31Folks, they've scored 100 points in all eight games.
02:36That is an NCAA record.
02:41While I can sit here and talk about Kate Coble and all these other players,
02:46I'm going to focus it on two.
02:49And it's two of my more favorite players at the guard position to watch,
02:54probably besides Olivia Miles and Zoe Brooks,
02:57because let's be honest, those two are from Jersey.
03:00And that's Flauze Johnson.
03:0217 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game,
03:06dynamic defensively, fun to watch, plays with energy and passion.
03:11Someone that should be a top five pick in the WNBA draft.
03:14And then there's the transfer,
03:16Malaysia Fawali,
03:18who I thought should have been a starter for Dawn Staley,
03:22is putting a big stat at 16.1 points per game for Coach Mulkey.
