00:00So we added the skateboard in Highland Life 2. It's a new concept for the game that was
00:10such a huge swing for us and we weren't sure we were gonna pull it off.
00:15In the first game, Traversal was a big part of what we wanted you to feel as a bounty hunter, right?
00:19You're running around, you've got this sweet suit, you're this regular earth kid, but now you've become something more.
00:24Who are you? Why are you trying to kill me?
00:27And in this one, we just had kind of a dumb idea, which was like, hey, we should put you on a skateboard.
00:32And then we built it and we're like, hey, this is really cool, but it's like really cool and maybe we should do more with it.
00:38And don't I want to shoot a gun while I'm skating? And don't I want to kick that into someone's face?
00:42The skateboard is honestly the coolest new thing we put in the game.
00:46Every time I play, I'm like, oh my god, this rules.
00:49You're coming up on Polycon. That's where Senator the Muppet will be.
00:53We have a lot of design challenges because of our ambition.
00:58And I think I got to call out the skateboard as the toughest one to crack.
01:02The skating mechanic was a total design.
01:06We've gone through probably a hundred different variations of the skate mechanic.
01:10We wanted to cut it at one point. I was pushing to cut it, even though I love skateboarding.
01:14Now I can't imagine the game without it. You know, it's such a big part of the game now.
01:22It became so vital to the game that we designed everything else around the skateboard.
01:27Sound designing the skateboard was like a lot of fun.
01:30Go on ahead. Sure thing. We made it out.
01:33We wanted to bring out like every little movement that you do.
01:37Like, you know, pedaling, you're doing jumps, you're doing tricks.
01:40So we tried to make those sounds a bit more beefier than life.
01:45Oh my god. Oh, I'm dizzy.
01:48So in High End Life 2, you could use the skateboard as a weapon.
01:51It's actually a major weapon for you.
01:52You can just kick it off and slam it into people's faces.
01:55It's really silly, which makes it really fun.
01:58But at the same time, it's so fluid that you don't really notice the controls.
02:02You're just kind of doing what you feel like is normal combat.
02:05And then in reality, you're doing all this crazy stuff with the skateboard that people watching look at it and they say,
02:11Holy crap. How did you do that?
02:13Where we ended up with the skateboard is so amazing that I'm just really proud.
02:19I'm really proud of what the team did. The risk was huge.
02:22And we finally put it into people's hands and we were terrified.
02:26And it ended up being really cool.
02:28And that was really heartwarming because it was such a big, scary, risky feature for us.
