With Christmas on its way, I thought I would upload something outside of YouTube since I just don't want to get a copyright claim or strike on my channel. So with that said, here is the 1992 recording of the 1978 Sesame Street Christmas Special - Christmas Eve on Sesame Street, which I found on Internet Archive.

00:06:07Be careful.
00:06:08What?
00:06:09Ernie, Ernie, you're going to get hurt
00:06:10sitting on the side of the barrel.
00:06:12Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:06:14Ernie, don't sit on the side of the barrel.
00:06:15Okay, Bert.
00:06:16Huh?
00:06:17Don't sit on the side of the barrel.
00:06:18Oh, sorry Bert.
00:06:19You'll get hurt.
00:06:20Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
00:06:24Hey, be careful, you're going to get hurt.
00:06:26Oh, Bert? Bert? Are you okay, Bert?
00:06:41Bert, are you all right?
00:06:56Let's play Stop the Whip. Here we go.
00:07:05Oh, one time around. Two times around. Three times around. I promise.
00:07:15Here we go. Here we go. Here we go, Bert.
00:07:26Bert, are you not so fast?
00:07:31Hey, take your hands off the hardware.
00:07:38I think it ain't perfect, Bert.
00:07:47Whoa!
00:08:02Oscar, are you all right?
00:08:04Oh, boy. Oscar.
00:08:06Golly, what a crash.
00:08:09Oh, let's get him on his feet here.
00:08:11Oscar, you okay?
00:08:13Oscar, you all right?
00:08:15All right. Let's go back and do it again.
00:08:19Oh, well, I'm so glad.
00:08:22Oh, I want everybody to be happy on Christmas Eve, Oscar.
00:08:25Hey, it's a big night.
00:08:27Tonight's the night that Santa Claus comes,
00:08:30and his reindeer will be landing on the roof.
00:08:32Then he takes his big bag of toys and he slides down the chimney.
00:08:36Aw, come on.
00:08:37What do you mean, aw, come on?
00:08:39Just hold it right there, bird brain.
00:08:42Do you know how big the inside of a chimney is?
00:08:45Well...
00:08:46About this big. That's how big.
00:08:49So how's a guy like Santa Claus, who's built like a dump truck,
00:08:54how's he gonna come down all those skinny little chimneys, huh?
00:08:58Well, uh, he holds his breath. Like this.
00:09:02That's like trying to get a basketball into a ginger ale bottle.
00:09:06Oh, well, then he comes in the window.
00:09:10Window's locked.
00:09:11And the door?
00:09:12Door's locked.
00:09:13Uh, well, the old incinerator shaft.
00:09:16Or the back door.
00:09:17No, it's the chimney or nothing.
00:09:21Gee, I don't know how Santa gets in.
00:09:25Well, if I was you, I'd find out.
00:09:28Because if he doesn't get in,
00:09:30there's gonna be a lot of empty stockings around town tomorrow morning.
00:09:35Good morning, heh heh heh.
00:09:37Merry Christmas.
00:09:50Boy, I don't know how Santa comes down the chimney,
00:09:55but we'll find out, huh, Patty?
00:10:05I believe in miracles, and I can tell you why.
00:10:14Once a year, the street I live on,
00:10:18sparkles like the sky.
00:10:20Oh, how quick life for Christmas.
00:10:25Wings clean everywhere.
00:10:28The world turns dry for Christmas.
00:10:33And if that isn't this true, blue miracle,
00:10:37I don't know what one is.
00:10:40I believe in miracles, I know because I see.
00:10:50Once a year, the place I walk is filled with trees of green,
00:10:56and pine cone smells of Christmas.
00:11:02Floating through the air to jingle bells of Christmas.
00:11:09And if that isn't this true, blue miracle,
00:11:13I don't know what one is.
00:11:16Love, the greatest wonder of them all,
00:11:19is not what happening around you.
00:11:24It's so great you start to be.
00:11:30Yes, the greatest wonder of them all,
00:11:35is how your heart is filled with flowers,
00:11:39and stars to light,
00:11:42so like a Christmas tree.
00:11:48Feelings feel so wonderful,
00:11:52you have to let them show.
00:11:56Maybe that's why everyone begins to get a glow
00:12:02and fill their hearts with Christmas.
00:12:07Share if they can share.
00:12:10That's the best part of Christmas.
00:12:15And if that isn't a true, blue miracle,
00:12:19I don't know what one is.
00:12:23And if that isn't a true, blue miracle,
00:12:27I don't know what one is.
00:12:32Hey, Oscar, wait.
00:12:47Hey, Oscar, I know how Santa gets down the chimney.
00:12:50All he does is take that big bell of his
00:12:52and tie it real tight around his waist,
00:12:54and it makes him so skinny he fits right down the chimney.
00:12:57You are, without a doubt, the stupidest bird I ever met.
00:13:14The greatest wonder of them all, is how your heart is filled with flowers,
00:13:31Hey, I know, Oscar. Santa Claus covers himself with butter so he can slip right down the chimney.
00:13:59Ding-dong, you're wrong. And you know what else? I don't think there is a way he can get down the chimney. That's what else. And if he doesn't, no, you know what, tomorrow morning.
00:14:14Feelings feel so wonderful. You have to let them show. Maybe that's why everyone begins to get along.
00:14:29And fill their hearts with Christmas. Spirit they can share. That's the best part of Christmas.
00:14:42And if that isn't a true blue miracle, I don't know what one is.
00:14:49And if that isn't a true blue miracle, I don't know what one is.
00:14:59Hi, Big Bird. Hi, Patty. Hi, Kermit. How was the skating party?
00:15:05Oh, okay. Yeah. Just okay? What's wrong?
00:15:08Well, everything was okay until Oscar started. How does Santa Claus get down those skinny little chimneys when he's so fat?
00:15:17And we've got to find out.
00:15:20See, because if he can't get down those skinny chimneys, nobody will get any presents tonight.
00:15:24That's what Oscar said.
00:15:26I see. Well, let us consider the question here.
00:15:30How does big fat Santa Claus get down those skinny chimneys?
00:15:35Well, let us look at it from another angle.
00:15:43Returning to the first angle, it's a simple matter of...
00:15:46You know, I never thought about it before. How does he do it?
00:15:52Kermit, it's Christmas Eve. We've got to find out.
00:15:56Okay, okay. Let's be scientific about it.
00:15:58Who knows more about Santa Claus than anybody?
00:16:00Who?
00:16:01Uh, Mrs. Claus?
00:16:03No, no, no, no.
00:16:04No, no, no. Kids, that's who.
00:16:07Kids?
00:16:08Yeah, kids.
00:16:09Right. So I'm just going to round up some of the guys. We'll go ask some kids.
00:16:13I'll be backing on nonce with the answer.
00:16:15Kermit.
00:16:16Yeah?
00:16:16I'm a kid and I don't know.
00:16:19Oh. Well, uh, that's our first answer right there, isn't it?
00:16:29Golly. Christmas Eve and I still don't have an idea for Ernie's present.
00:16:35It's got to be something really special.
00:16:38What? What? What is...
00:16:41Oh. Ernie's rubber ducky.
00:16:46Hey, wait. That gives me a neato idea.
00:16:50I'll get Ernie a soap dish to put his rubber ducky in.
00:16:55What a nifty idea.
00:16:56Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha.
00:16:59Oh, I'm home, Bert.
00:17:02Oh, Bert?
00:17:03Whew.
00:17:04Hey, what's this?
00:17:06Why, it's a paperclip.
00:17:07I bet this is from Bert's paperclip collection.
00:17:09Of course, this is Bert's 1957 Acme.
00:17:15Why, he'd feel just awful if he lost this.
00:17:18Hey, now I know what I'll get Bert for Christmas.
00:17:21I'll get him a cigar box to keep his paperclip collection in.
00:17:24That's what I'll get him.
00:17:25Then they'll never get lost again.
00:17:33This is such a special time of year with such great programming.
00:17:37If you want to make sure that this programming comes to you all year long,
00:17:41get up, get to your phone, call right now, and make a pledge to Wisconsin Public Television.
00:17:46As we continue to watch Bert and Ernie and how they're thinking about the kinds of gifts
00:17:51that they want to get for one another, here's a gift that keeps on giving to your family.
00:17:56Wisconsin Public Television.
00:17:58Make sure it keeps coming to you.
00:18:00Do it for you.
00:18:01Do it for your family.
00:18:03Call right now.
00:18:04Call 1-800-236-3636.
00:18:07You know, watching this show makes me very nostalgic.
00:18:10I think I watched this years ago when our son, who's now in his last year of college,
00:18:15was still at home, and it was wonderful.
00:18:16It was breathtaking and so exciting then, and it still is today.
00:18:20Members of Wisconsin Public Television love this kind of programming
00:18:23because they know it's quality programming, and it's meant for kids.
00:18:28This is a very short intermission, so go to your phone right now.
00:18:31Call us.
00:18:32We have non-commercial but two-way television.
00:18:35We're communicating right now, and now to you, Byron.
00:18:38Thank you, Ann.
00:18:39You know, it has been many years since this program was on, at least 12,
00:18:44and each year we think this may be the last year.
00:18:47But the great folks at Children's Television Workshop keep bringing it back for us
00:18:51to give to you as a special gift at Christmas.
00:18:54Call us up right now and let us know that you appreciate this gift of Christmas Eve on Sesame Street.
00:19:00And when you call and pledge, we have some great premiums for you.
00:19:04For a pledge of $35, the minimum level, you will receive this poster.
00:19:10And this is a laminated poster, so it's suitable for putting on a table.
00:19:13And it's Bert and Ernie's Clubhouse, the Sesame Street gang.
00:19:17So call us and pledge at that $35 level, and you'll get airwaves and the poster.
00:19:22And if you pledge at the $45 level, which is a different kind of level,
00:19:27we have this very special glass for you.
00:19:30This glass is really neat.
00:19:32I don't know if you can see this, but inside there's liquid.
00:19:36And so there's a whole bunch of rubber duckies floating around this glass and a bunch of glitter.
00:19:41But when you tip it over, of course, it doesn't come out because it's sealed between two.
00:19:47See, there's an inner wall and an outer wall.
00:19:49So call us.
00:19:49That's available at the $45 level.
00:19:52Ask for the Tumbler or the Sesame Street glass.
00:19:55I'm not sure which we're going to call it.
00:19:57See those rubber duckies going around?
00:19:58And at the $70 level, we have a slumber bag.
00:20:02And I'll be back after Bill Ferris talks for a little bit to tell you more about this.
00:20:06Bill?
00:20:07Thanks, Byron.
00:20:07Yeah, I think now we know where Ernie's rubber duckies have gone.
00:20:11They're in the Drinkle and Sparkle glass.
00:20:14You know, one of the other levels you have to choose from, the $120 level,
00:20:18you can get your choice of either of my two buddies here, Snuffleupagus or Elmo,
00:20:22when you become a member of Friends at that level.
00:20:24And, of course, we make it as easy for you as we can by suggesting installment levels.
00:20:30We can put you on the installment plan where four times a year we'll send you a reminder notice.
00:20:35And, for instance, should you want to choose either Snuffy or Elmo for your little one
00:20:39at the $120 level, four times a year, $30 makes this much more manageable within your family budget.
00:20:48It's just one of the ways that we at Wisconsin Public Television want to make it easier for you
00:20:52to be able to support and sponsor the programming you and your family enjoy,
00:20:56and also to make it easier for you to get Elmo or Snuffy for the special child in your life.
00:21:01And, of course, remember to use your Visa or MasterCard when you call with that membership
00:21:05because it makes you an instant member, put your dollars to work just that much quicker,
00:21:09the phone numbers are on your screen, and, you know, it's a great way for you and your child
00:21:15to support and sponsor the terrific programming here on Wisconsin Public Television.
00:21:19Now for some more about the thank-you gift series, Byron.
00:21:22Well, Bill, I was starting to show this slumber bag.
00:21:25This is a Sesame Street slumber bag, and it unzips.
00:21:29You put overnight things in here, and it's got a special little pocket here on the end
00:21:34that you can put things in.
00:21:35And the slumber bag is available if you call right now, tonight, and pledge at the $70 level.
00:21:40It's a premium for the $70 level.
00:21:43And Bill told you about Snuffleupagus and about...
00:21:47Who is this?
00:21:48I forgot.
00:21:49Elmo.
00:21:50Thank you, Bill.
00:21:51Elmo!
00:21:52Elmo's falling down.
00:21:53We have the poster also at the $35 level, and that comes with airwaves, too,
00:22:01because that's the basic level that you can pledge at.
00:22:03So give us a call right now, and ask for some of these special premiums.
00:22:08But you know the very best premium is the great programming that you enjoy on Wisconsin Public Television.
00:22:14I want to tell you about one other thing.
00:22:16If you call, there's a special thing we do every day after Sesame Street,
00:22:20and that is we put the birthday children's names on the air.
00:22:25So if your child would like to enroll in the Big Bird Birthday Club,
00:22:29you call and just tell the volunteer about that.
00:22:32We'll send you a very special postcard for you to fill out,
00:22:35and your child's name will be read at the end of Sesame Street during the afternoon play.
00:22:39Ann?
00:22:40Thanks, Byron.
00:22:41You know, what I like best about Wisconsin Public Television is that
00:22:45Wisconsin Public Television makes kids a priority,
00:22:48and they don't treat kids like little adults or someone to be playing commercials to,
00:22:56but as real people with real needs, and they attend to those needs.
00:23:00And one thing that I really appreciate, and I'm sure you do, too,
00:23:04about Wisconsin Public Television is that it can be on all day long,
00:23:09and the kids are just getting a great, great education.
00:23:12That's what Wisconsin Public Television does for all of us.
00:23:15We're all partners in educating the kids, and the kids love it as well.
00:23:19So if you want to keep this quality programming coming, please call right now.
00:23:24Just a few more minutes during this break.
00:23:26Get up.
00:23:27Give us a pledge here at Wisconsin Public Television.
00:23:30Wisconsin Public Television respects kids,
00:23:32and we need you to join our family to keep this quality programming coming.
00:23:37I've got Elmo here with me, and he's really excited to be part of this whole production today.
00:23:44And years to come, we will see this continued quality programming if you call right now.
00:23:49So call in Madison at 263-4040.
00:23:54If you need to call from other parts of the state, 1-800-236-3636,
00:23:59and keep this quality programming coming to you.
00:24:02And now to you, Bill.
00:24:03Thanks a lot, Ann.
00:24:04And of course, we'll be back with the Sesame Street Christmas Eve in just a few moments.
00:24:09But you know, the reason we come to you just a few times a year with these pledge drives
00:24:13is because it's your dollars that are the biggest source of the financial dollars that we use
00:24:18to bring the programs into your home.
00:24:20And let's just take a look at the cost of some of these programs on an annual basis,
00:24:24such as, for instance, Sesame Street, over $73,000 a year to bring Sesame Street into your home
00:24:30five days a week, 52 weeks a year.
00:24:33Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego?
00:24:35A very special children's game show program that we've been bringing to you now for, I think, a couple of years.
00:24:41It's a program that I enjoy watching.
00:24:43It's educated me about some of the world geography.
00:24:46Victory Garden, an example of another program that Victory Garden costs $12,000 a year.
00:24:52And it's really your dollars that bring these programs into your home.
00:24:57It's your membership that makes it happen.
00:24:59And of course, that's the reason why we come to you just a few times a year,
00:25:04because we want to give you an opportunity to cast your vote for programming like a Christmas Eve on Sesame Street,
00:25:10to cast your vote for Elmo or Snuffy at the $120 membership level,
00:25:15which, as we talked about before, you can break out that $120 membership over quarterly installment plan.
00:25:22To make that membership fit better into your budget.
00:25:25We're getting a lot of phone calls during this break.
00:25:27We know that Sesame Street is a program that you enjoy, that's important to you, that your kids enjoy.
00:25:33And it's important that you call with your pledge now.
00:25:36Anne?
00:25:36Thanks, Bill.
00:25:38I know that you're wondering when is this break going to be over,
00:25:41but hang with us a few more minutes, because this is really important.
00:25:44You just came through a long election period, and now we need you to call and vote one more time.
00:25:50We need you to call.
00:25:51Call 1-800-236-3636 and vote for Kids and Wisconsin Public Television.
00:25:59You know, we only take pledges a few times during the year.
00:26:02Actually, it's less than 1% of all of the broadcast time is devoted to pledge.
00:26:07But when we have our pledge drive, we're able to continue Wisconsin Public Television
00:26:12and the kinds of quality programming that you're seeing tonight and all year long.
00:26:16A lot of people tune into television just during the holidays to get these wonderful specials.
00:26:22But on Wisconsin Public Television, you have specials all year long.
00:26:26If you compare this, however, to commercial television,
00:26:29I'm sure that you'll agree that you'll love the fact that there are only a few pledge drives during the year,
00:26:33less than 1% of the time, and yet, and no commercials.
00:26:37And that's because people like you use this break time to get up.
00:26:42Give us a call at Wisconsin Public Television.
00:26:44Now to you, Byron.
00:26:46I want to remind you about these great premiums.
00:26:50Give us a call right now during this break, and you can receive these premiums.
00:26:55At the $35 level, we have the poster, and this is a poster for your kids.

00:27:04and it's the Sesame Street Clubhouse gang.
00:27:07And then the little fellow that I forgot earlier, this is Elmo, and he is so cute.
00:27:11Sorry I forgot him.
00:27:13He or Snuffleupagus is available at the $120 level.
00:27:18And a really special premium right now is this tumbler.
00:27:21This is a special level we created just for this Sesame Street break,
00:27:25and it is a glass that's filled with rubber duckies and sparkles.
00:27:31So the duckies move up and down, and the sparkles move around,
00:27:34and I'm sure that your child will really love this tumbler.
00:27:38It's got a false wall in here, and it's filled with liquid.
00:27:41And don't forget the slumber bag, which is available at the $70 level.
00:27:45This slumber bag is for kids to take their pajamas or their pillow or their pet stuffed animals with them on an overnight.
00:27:55So give us a call and pledge at one of these great levels.
00:27:59We really enjoy hearing from you tonight.
00:28:01And Bill and Anne.

00:40:44Wear a pencil.
00:40:54Well, Kermit, we're waiting.
00:40:55What did you find out about how Santa gets down all those chimneys?
00:40:59Well, the demographics of our survey would indicate that the solution is not altogether definitive.
00:41:06What does that mean?
00:41:07Well, let me read you a couple of the quotes here.
00:41:10Let's see.
00:41:11Santa Claus goes on a crash diet every Christmas Eve and loses 200 pounds.
00:41:16There are several kids who believe that they have rubber chimneys.
00:41:20This one thinks he sends an elf.
00:41:22One little girl said that Santa sneaks in with the rest of the relatives on Thanksgiving
00:41:27and hides in the laundry until Christmas.
00:41:29Probably not.
00:41:30A boy on 72nd Street thinks that Santa has very, very long arms.
00:41:36We've got something in here about a chimney stretcher, a fishing pole.
00:41:40No, no, no, no, no.
00:41:41This isn't getting us anywhere.
00:41:43Here it is Christmas Eve, and we don't even know if Santa Claus is going to make it down the chimney.
00:41:48What'll we do?
00:41:49Dear Santa Claus, me no care what kind of cookies you bring me.
00:42:01You surprise Cookie Monster, okay?
00:42:04Question mark.
00:42:07Boy.
00:42:08Me wonder what kind of cookies Santa's going to bring me.
00:42:12Oh, maybe, maybe coconut fudge cookies, or, oh yeah, or dainty raisin cookies.
00:42:21Mmm, me love raisin cookies.
00:42:24Little raisins.
00:42:25Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, yeah.
00:42:28Mmm, or maybe Santa bring me a bunch of fortune cookies with delicious paper inside them.
00:42:36Yeah.
00:42:36Oh, delicious.
00:42:44Oh, Santa bring me a bunch of cookies.
00:42:46Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:42:47Round cookies.
00:42:49Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.
00:42:52Mmm, mmm, mmm.
00:42:54Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:42:55Cookies.
00:42:56Mmm, mmm, mmm.
00:42:58Cowabunga.
00:42:59Oh.
00:43:00Mmm, me get so excited when me think of cookies.
00:43:05Mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm, mmm.
00:43:08Oh, yeah, Santa.
00:43:09Santa.
00:43:12Word typewriter.
00:43:17What are we going to do?
00:43:19We're going to use the scientific way to find out how old Santa Claus gets his big round tummy
00:43:25down those skinny little chimneys tonight.
00:43:27Oh, I'm sure it'll work if you thought of it, Bird.
00:43:32It sure will.
00:43:33And remember, you play the part of Santa Claus, and we'll pretend that this barrel is a chimney.
00:43:40And we're going to see how Santa Claus gets into these chimneys.
00:43:43Mmm, okay, Bird.
00:43:45Ho, ho, ho.
00:43:46Here I go, climbing up to the roof to get to the chimney.
00:43:53Look out below.
00:43:55Ho, ho, ho.
00:43:55To the top of the wall.
00:43:56Oh, uh.
00:43:57Now dash away.
00:43:59Uh-huh, uh-huh, uh-huh.
00:43:59Okay, you ready?
00:44:00Uh, Bird.
00:44:01Okay, what?
00:44:02What do I do now?
00:44:03Oh, well, just put your first foot right down in there.
00:44:08Uh, uh, uh-huh.
00:44:11Uh-huh, now the other foot.
00:44:14Okay, and now another foot.
00:44:16Uh, uh, Bird, I don't think Santa has more than two feet.
00:44:20Oh, jeez.
00:44:23Oh, well, just pretend that he has one of his reindeer with him.
00:44:26Mm-hmm.
00:44:27Oh.
00:44:28Uh-huh.
00:44:28Uh-huh.
00:44:29Uh-huh.
00:44:30Uh-huh.
00:44:31Uh-huh.
00:44:31Uh-huh.
00:44:31Oh, uh, Bird.
00:44:33Hmm?
00:44:33It's getting harder to ho, ho, ho.
00:44:37Oh, well, tell you what.
00:44:38Let me just look over here and get a different angle on this.
00:44:42Let's see.
00:44:43Uh-huh.
00:44:43Uh, from here.
00:44:45Uh-huh.
00:44:46Uh, can I come look too, Bird?
00:44:48No, no, you stay there and put your other foot in.
00:44:52Oh, Snuffy.
00:44:53I mean, Santa Claus.
00:44:54Look, you've done it.
00:44:55Now we know how Santa gets into the chimney.
00:44:58Uh-huh.
00:45:00Uh, just one thing, Bird.
00:45:02Yeah?
00:45:03Do we know how he gets out?
00:45:15Well, I'll see you later, Bob.
00:45:16Well, I have a little errand to do.
00:45:19Okay, Mr. Hooper.
00:45:20Oh, Mr. Hooper?
00:45:21Yeah.
00:45:23Happy Hanukkah.
00:45:26Thank you, Bob.
00:45:27And a Merry Christmas to you.
00:45:30Merry Christmas.
00:45:31Merry Christmas.
00:45:33Huh.
00:45:33I hope their Christmas trees get termites.
00:45:36Huh.
00:45:38I can't think of anything this summer
00:45:42to a grouch.
00:45:46Christmas is a bummer.
00:45:56Beaming faces everywhere.
00:45:58Happiness is in the air.
00:46:00I'm telling you, it isn't fair.
00:46:02I hate Christmas.
00:46:05People loaded with goodwill.
00:46:07Giving presents.
00:46:08What a thrill.
00:46:09That slushy nonsense makes me ill.
00:46:11I hate Christmas.
00:46:13I'd rather have a holiday
00:46:15like normal grouches do.
00:46:17Instead of getting presents,
00:46:19they take presents back from you.
00:46:22Catch.
00:46:22Here comes Santa through them boys.
00:46:27So who needs that big red noise?
00:46:29I'll tell him where to put his toys.
00:46:31I hate Christmas.
00:46:33And if you want the truth,
00:46:35I ain't so crazy about Thanksgiving
00:46:37or Labor Day either.
00:46:42Christmas carols to be sung.
00:46:44Declarations to be hung.
00:46:46Oh yeah, well, I stick out my tongue.
00:46:49I hate Christmas.
00:46:50Christmas bells play loud and strong.
00:47:02First might hear all that ding-dong.
00:47:04Besides, it goes on much too long.
00:47:08I hate Christmas.
00:47:11I'd rather have a holiday
00:47:13with a lot less joy and flash.
00:47:15With a lot less cheerful smiling
00:47:17and a lot more dirty trash.
00:47:19Yeah, Christmas day is almost here.
00:47:22When it's over, then I cheer.
00:47:24I'm glad it's only once a year.
00:47:26I hate Christmas.
00:47:30Well, time for bed, Ernie.
00:47:33Yep.
00:47:34It is, uh, beddy-bye time, Bert.
00:47:37Yeah, sure is.
00:47:39Bert, I can't stand it any longer.
00:47:45Let's open these presents tonight.
00:47:46Yeah, yeah, yeah.
00:47:47There you are, Bert.
00:47:48That one is for you.
00:47:49Ernie, thanks.
00:47:50This one right here is for you.
00:47:51Oh, great, Bert.
00:47:52Hey, but you open yours up first, would you?
00:47:53Can I?
00:47:54Please.
00:47:55Oh, thanks a lot.
00:47:56Oh, Ernie, what a great, superb packing job.
00:48:00You just cut the ribbon corners so neatly.
00:48:02Now, if I can just slide my finger underneath the paper
00:48:05and get the tape...
00:48:06No, how about a scissor?
00:48:07Well, maybe if I just...
00:48:08Oh, Bert, just open it up, would you?
00:48:10Oh, yeah, okay.
00:48:12There.
00:48:14Oh, Ernie!
00:48:15A cigar box!

00:48:19I got it especially for your paperclip collection, Bert.
00:48:23What?
00:48:25Well, I got the cigar box so you could keep your paperclips in it.
00:48:30Oh.
00:48:31Uh-huh.
00:48:33Yeah, well...
00:48:34Oh, come on, Bert.

00:48:39Uh, gee, Ernie, um...
00:48:42Hey, wait!
00:48:43How about your present?

00:49:15Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it for a rubber ducky.
00:49:18What?
00:49:20Yeah, yeah, so he won't keep falling into the top and sinking, you know.

00:49:25Go get rubber ducky.
00:49:27Yeah.

00:49:51I'll open it up.
00:49:52Open up yours first.
00:49:53Let's see.
00:49:54Should I untie the ribbon or get a scissor and then take it from the outside here?
00:49:58Bert!
00:49:59Yes.
00:50:00Just open it up.
00:50:00Oh, thank you, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

00:57:47I'll find him.
00:57:48I'll find him.
00:57:49Oh, I'll find him.
00:57:50Don't worry, Patty, we'll find them, okay?
00:57:53Susan, you better get your coat.
00:58:06Hi, fellas.
00:58:08How's things up here on the roof?
00:58:10Say, uh, Santa Claus hasn't been here yet, has he?
00:58:13No, oh, good.
00:58:15I'll check out the change.
00:58:20There's our skinny little chimney.
00:58:25Hmm.
00:58:26So, I'm just gonna stay here and watch
00:58:29and see how Santa gets down that little thing.
00:58:32It is cold.
00:58:36I don't see how those penguins can take it.
00:58:39Well, it shouldn't be long now.
00:58:46Big Bird's missing?
00:58:50Yeah.
00:58:51On Christmas Eve?
00:58:52Mm-hmm.
00:58:53Well, maybe he's over at Mr. Hooper's store.
00:58:55Well, we're going over to Grover's to check, so...
00:58:57Okay, bye.
00:59:02Hi, how are you doing?
00:59:03Have you seen Big Bird? He's missing?
00:59:04No.
00:59:05Oh, really?
00:59:06Yeah.
00:59:07Say, look at everybody down there.
00:59:09They're all running around.
00:59:11Hmm.
00:59:12Someone must be lost.
00:59:14Well, I have more important things to worry about.
00:59:17Like, when the sleigh flies in,
00:59:19I'll go up to Santa Claus,
00:59:21and I'll say,
00:59:22Mr. Claus, sir,
00:59:24okay if I watch you go down that skinny little chimney?
00:59:27I'll be gonna help.
00:59:29Brrrr.
00:59:30Brrrr.
00:59:31Yeah.
00:59:38Brrrr.
00:59:39Brrrr.
00:59:40Brrrr.
00:59:41Brrrr.
00:59:42Boy, I hope he comes soon.
00:59:54No luck, huh, Bob?
00:59:55Nope.
00:59:56And it's snowing harder than ever.
00:59:57Yeah, and it's really getting cold.
00:59:59It could freeze out in the night like this.
01:00:01I'm gonna try over there.
01:00:22Oh, no.
01:00:23Not yet.
01:00:24Oh, gee.
01:00:26What if he's stuck in a chimney somewhere?
01:00:29Or stacked over Kennedy?
01:00:32Hmm.
01:00:33Hey, what's going on?
01:00:34What?
01:00:35What?
01:00:36Ah!
01:00:37What?
01:00:38What?
01:00:39What?
01:00:40What?
01:00:41What?
01:00:42What are you doing, Maria?
01:00:43Oscar!
01:00:44I hope you're satisfied.
01:00:45You have to start all that stuff about Santa and tiny children.
01:00:47And you've upset Big Bird so much, he's gone.
01:00:48Well, uh, I didn't know he'd do anything.
01:00:49You have to start all that stuff about Santa and tiny chimneys and you've upset Big Bird so much, he's gone.
01:01:02Well, uh, I didn't know he'd do anything dumb like that.
01:01:03I was only teasing him.
01:01:04Teasing him?
01:01:05Teasing him?
01:01:06Yeah.
01:01:07Telling him that Santa's not gonna bring anybody any presents because he can't get down a tiny chimney?
01:01:08Now, you call that teasing?
01:01:09Well, uh, he'll come back.
01:01:10He's part homing pigeon.
01:01:11Besides, what's the big deal?
01:01:12He lives outdoors all the time anyway.
01:01:13Now, look here, Oscar.
01:01:14What?
01:01:15What?
01:01:16What?
01:01:17What?
01:01:18What?
01:01:19What?
01:01:20What?
01:01:21What?
01:01:22What?
01:01:23What?
01:01:24What?
01:01:25What?
01:01:26What?
01:01:27What?
01:01:28What?
01:01:29What?
01:01:30What?
01:01:31What?
01:01:32What?
01:01:33What?
01:01:34What?
01:01:35What?
01:01:36What?
01:01:37What?
01:01:38What?
01:01:39What?
01:01:40Now, the mess is something different.
01:01:42That's his home.
01:01:43He's got an electric blanket there, and he's got heating pads, and he's around all the people
01:01:47that he loves.
01:01:49But here it is, Christmas Eve, and he's out there somewhere in this big city, and it keeps
01:01:55snowing, and it's getting colder, and he could be in serious trouble unless we find
01:01:59him.
01:02:00So what are you gonna do about it?
01:02:03Well, I'm gonna find him and bring him back.
01:02:06Get me off of here.
01:02:07Come on.
01:02:08Come on.
01:02:09Come on.
01:02:10Hurry up.
01:02:11Get my feet on the ground here.
01:02:12Come on.
01:02:13Hurry up again, eh?
01:02:14Okay.
01:02:15Hey, turkey.
01:02:16Where are you?
01:02:17It's me, old Oscar.
01:02:20No, try the road.
01:02:21Where are you?
01:02:23No, no.
01:02:25How are you?
01:02:27How are you?
01:02:28I missed a ride.
01:02:29How are you?
01:02:30You're a little girl.
01:02:31You're a little girl.
01:02:32Yeah.
01:02:33You're a little girl.
01:02:34We're a little girl.
01:02:35A little girl.
01:02:36You're a little girl.
01:03:16Oh, oh. Oh, that's funny. I could have sworn I heard some. But there's no one here. Not even any footprints in the snow.
01:03:35What a dream I just had. I must have fallen asleep. Wow. Boy, am I cold. I better go down to Gordon and Susan's to warm up for a minute.
01:03:56Oh. Oh. I think I froze my giblets.
01:04:05Okay, Patty, let's just go inside and get warmed up. Call your mother so she doesn't worry too much.
01:04:17Big Bird!
01:04:17Hi. Oh, hi, Patty.
01:04:23How are you? Hi. I was right here. Oh, hi, Gordon. Hi, Susan.
01:04:30Big Bird, are you all right?
01:04:31Oh, yes. Except for my giblets.
01:04:34Big Bird, where have you been?
01:04:36Well, um, I went up on the roof to see if I could see Santa Claus come, but then I fell asleep.
01:04:42Oh, is it cold? I got so cold I decided to come down and warm up, but I'm going right back up.
01:04:47Oh, no, you're not. You're just going to come in here and go out. That's what you're going to do.
01:04:51No, no, I want to see you.
01:04:51No, you just come on in here, Big Bird.
01:04:52Yeah, Big Bird, come on in here.
01:04:54No, no, no, no.
01:04:55Oh, my God.
01:05:25Oh, dear.
01:05:30Now I'll never know.
01:05:32I'll never know how he did it.
01:05:34Big Bird, do you remember what Oscar said to you?
01:05:38Yeah.
01:05:39Oscar said that if Santa Claus can't get down those little bitty chimneys, then no one will get any presents.
01:05:45Well, just look around you, Big Bird.
01:05:48Does it look to you like no one's getting any presents?
01:05:52No.
01:05:53No.
01:05:54But it's a miracle.
01:05:56How did he do it?
01:05:58Well, why do you want to know, Big Bird?
01:06:00Well, it's important, Gordon.
01:06:02No, Big Bird.
01:06:04That's not what's important.
01:06:06What is important is, well, we lost you tonight, and we were all very, very worried about you.
01:06:13And now we've got you back, safe and sound.
01:06:17And we're all together for Christmas.
01:06:24And if that isn't a true blue miracle, I don't know what was.
01:06:33I hear the turkey's back.
01:06:42That's right, Oscar.
01:06:43Come on in.
01:06:44Oh, hi there, Oscar.
01:06:49Hey, listen, you big canary.
01:06:54I'm glad you're back.
01:06:56That's nice, Oscar.
01:06:57Because I want to ask you a question.
01:07:00Oh, sure, Oscar.
01:07:01What is it?
01:07:02How do you think the Easter Bunny can hide all those eggs in one night?
01:07:08Oscar!
01:07:08Oscar!
01:07:08Oh, my God!
01:07:38Eat Christmas with you all through the year.
01:07:43When Christmas is over, you can keep it near.
01:07:49Think of this Christmas day, when Christmas is far away.
01:08:00Eat Christmas with you all through the year.
01:08:05When Christmas is over, you can keep it near.
