Before leaving, Loïc promised Rosette he would return to make her an Empress. Years later, now the Emperor, he returns incognito to his village. He discovers Rosette is set to marry a magistrate's son and has become a tyrant herself. Beaten for standing up to injustice, Loïc is rescued and plans a banquet to unmask the corrupt. When he finally reveals who he really is, Rosette realizes the magnitude of her mistake.
